I guess it was mostly just the "crass" stuff. I don't always mind those sort of jokes -- SR just felt like it was written by a 14 year. Are you saying this looks like more of the same? This like from Kotaku really grabbed my interest: "If you’ve ever played a multiplayer-only hero shooter and wished it had an extensive single-player campaign, this is it."

And I didn't regret Gat out of Hell at all. If it ends up sucking at that level, I'm getting a physical copy, so I'll just play it through and sell it back.

I'd be cautiously optimistic but not enough to pre order or pay full price for this. The gameplay and superpowers part of 4 was fun, but the sandbox and open world part was dull and empty especially since it largely just re-used the SR3 map. If it winds up having SR2 levels of detail and cool stuff like actually being able to wander into malls and random office buildings and find more minigames, or different costume parts and clothes for dress up with sr4's superpowers and missions/companions it'll totally be worth the price tag though.

Most characters don't seem to have a "travel" power and the only vehicles look to be land so far so I don't think that'll be an issue. EDIT: Apparently according to idolninja on steam there's ways to (mechanic spoiler) manipulate gravity so you can run up the sides of skyscrapers and stuff. This is character independent. I'll be honest, I'd take a new game with superrunning or superflying or some new interesting movement option over yet another open world game where you drive a car. But, y'know, cars are fine. I enjoy driving cars.

One of the characters is a foul mouthed roller derby lady and she's introduced with a mission where you retrace her steps from a bender that she doesn't remember at all. The Johnny Cage style arrogant Hollywood actor character was once in a porno, the pirate character says "ahoy motherfuckers," etc.

Driving in games like this would be way more fun if you could be in a car as fast and as easily as you could put up a shield or switch weapons. Like how in Tron the light cycles form around the rider, it would have been nice in Crackdown to have the Agency teleport a vehicle to appear so that you were instantly in the driver's seat. Because driving was supposed to be one of your 3 or 4 main abilities but it was disconnected and inconvenient while your other abilities were a part of you.

Pre-ordered, still very lukewarm hype about it, but I knew I was still gonna play it anyway cause it's still "sort of" SR5 in a way. As far as the Denuvo thing is concerned, there isn't really much to say about it these days. It's not scary and unrefined like it was in 2015, and you can't hardly buy any high profile PC game released within the last year or so that doesn't have or at the very least had it at one point in their lifetime. So while I hated the thought of it about two years ago, it's not really hill worth fighting for anymore.

With the pre-order discount and some discount code they have listed on the store page you can get this for about 44 dollars on Greenmangaming. That was just enough to push it into "Eh, I'll risk it" territory for me.

I'm really surprised no one's mentioned the vast number of livestreams Volition has made relating to the game. They've been going through one Agent a week, talking with the voice actors, explaining a bit of their backstory, explaining how they play and how they interact with the others, and talking about the journey they went through in development. They have an archive of all of their streams on YouTube. I highly recommend it if you're curious about any of the agents and what went in to their design. It's spoiler-light; you find out a little about the agents, but they haven't discussed a lot of the main plot or much of the agents' "personal missions." Maybe I just love the streams because I love design and voice actors? At any rate more people need to see them.

A few previews seem to mention the game playing like a 3rd person Borderlands and Overwatch mash up.

That's too bad. One of the things I hated most about Borderlands and games like it are the excessive amount of trash loot drops there were to sift through, I wasn't expecting that from this game.

Well, practically all their dialogue is bland beyond belief. Much of the writing in Agents of Mayhem is “joke adjacent,” meaning it's delivered with the tone, pacing and structure of a joke, but is not, in actuality, funny in any way. This has likely started to feel like a litany of sins rather than cogent critique, but it's the best way I have of illustrating Agent of Mayhem's failings. It is not felled by any one thing, but is rather undone by a thousand little cuts. Agents of Mayhem heaps theoretical fun on you. Characters, powers, upgrades, tons of missions — it's desperate to for the player to just have fun. It's a noble impulse, but one that it's depressingly incapable of consistently delivering on. Oof.

I admit, having a saints row spiritual sequel without either co-op or character creation seems like it's really... missing the point. I'm buying it anyway because I'm a consumer whore and I like the other 3rd person action shooter stuff that Volition's done, but I can't help but have a bad feeling regardless. Hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

I had zero expectations for this game but John Walker hating it and those 7-8 range reviews have made me think there might be a playable game amidst all this, just not 60 euros worth of it. It's also unfortunate that "the open world is repetitive and dull" is something they haven't improved on in, what, three games now? Agents of Mayhem might have been better off not being open world.
