I've seen it mentioned a few times across various boards, but the fact this isn't something akin to "Saints Row presents:" or "Saints Row's" Agents of Mayhem is real weird.

Preordered, seems like an alright single player shooty-grindy kinda game but I'm afraid if this bombs it might jeopardise any proper Saints Row games.

If anything, if this bombs then I'd expect them to go right back to the Saints Row well very quickly.

Still not sure if I want to get this (I can't afford it and War of the Chosen anyway, so I won't be getting it for awhile regardless), the people giving it bad reviews are reviewers whose opinions I usually completely disagree with but something about the gameplay just looks so rote, I watched a video of the characters ultimate abilities and so many of them were just "characters go into a frenzy and gets more powerful, allowing them to kill lots of enemies". Feels like they could have done a bit more with those, made them more weird.

I think they decided to wrap up Saints Row, man. They might be tired of the franchise or don't know which direction to take it.

I hope AoM will become a modest success despite the lukewarm online reception and the second game can bring back a customizeable protagonist with co-op.

To be fair, John Walker is really bad at videogames, him hating something just means you may need to think or have reflexes to play it.

But yeah, the other reviews do make it feel it might be worth to pick it up at a sale later on.

It's probably going to be a lot more enjoyable if we take it as its own thing on its own merits, rather than keep crying "this isn't saints row"

Seoul looks cool IMO as a setting. I hope it has a bit of life and soul but it looks a lot more distinct than steelport already (mostly cause steelport was boring af)

I don't know a lot about this game but two of the playable characters are from Saints Row, and a third preorder character is from Saints Row. So I don't think they've quite divorced themselves from the franchise entirely.

I knew about Pierce and the Gat preorder but I'm drawing a blank on the 3rd one. Still, I think they're just fanservice references/callbacks to Saints Row rather than a straight continuation of the franchise, like Ultor's presence doesn't mean Saints Row was a continuation or prequel of Red Faction. I doubt they're the exact same characters. For starters, Pierce seems to be a respected guy rather than a butt monkey for every gag. But maybe I'm wrong and this really is Saints Row 4.5 except taken in a completely different direction gameplay wise.

My biggest gripe besides the length and empty world was that despite the weapons being based on cool concepts, they were all pretty drat boring to use.

GooH was a 15$ budget expandalone. It was a perfectly fine game for that price and I wish more studios released small AA expandalones like this.

Yeti is Oleg in Mr. Freeze form or something. The setting of the game is based around the Gat out of hell ending where he has the world remade but he's a cop instead of a gangster now so it's more like a reboot with the same characters but different. I still feel like if they were making a clean break they wouldn't have Pierce, Oleg, and Gat in the game at all

The reviews for this look poor, but I really like pretty much all the other Volition games. I preordered it, so I guess I can just wait until I'm off work this afternoon and see for myself.

It seems like assuming they patch some of the more game breaking sounding bugs it will at least be some good dumb fun. Open-world single player Overwatch sounds pretty great to me.

I read the Polygon review, one of Justin's bigger complaints was some really nasty bugs, like tutorial windows or losing the use of some abilities until you reboot the game and waypoints randomly dropping mid-mission.

Also can't really understand all of the banter being generic. Interparty banter based on who you've taken isn't exactly a novel concept.

I didn't think Gat Outta Hell was bad. Yeah, the gameplay was just an SR4 reskin, but man flying in that game felt great, it was a huge improvement over SR4's flying mechanic.

I'd list off a bunch of stuff that's just wrong, starting with horrid sound- civilians are almost entirely mute? - but it's just sooo many things. Game feels years out of date and has all the soul of a game shoved off to contractors on the cheap, eugh.

Wouldn't actually complain about quiet civilians and stuff, but it's just one of the tons and tons of audio they left out- Your first view of the city has civilians around taking pictures of you and stuff, hell a guy taking selfies right next to you,....All entirely quietly with nice quickly looping animations.

I'm having...FUN with this game?! I feel like the PR for this game wasn't great because combat is way better than it appeared to be, I'm moving a lot more and just the beginning enemies can be pretty dangerous when there are enough of them. I'm not really noticing the "enemies just stand still" problem. Yeah they don't immediately move when you start shooting them but I can't think of many games where this is the case. They're certainly moving around a lot in combat, and switching between agents is a lot more natural and fluid than it was looking like to me.

One criticism that I did notice in my game is that Seoul is strangely quiet. I'm trying to remember how much chatter and background noise Saints Row 2 had since that's the last game with a really good open world. The radio stations aren't really grabbing me either, they seem like mostly background noise.

Schubalts

People say bigger is better.

But for the first time in my life, I think I've gone too far.
It seems like the background NPCs' audio is just incredibly quiet or not playing correctly? I stood by the guys on Persephone's balcony, and they were talking about Carol From HR, but it was barely audible and cut off early.

And on the items: There are consumable items that you craft with materials and money (the introduction item is a temporary gun that shoots giant, electrified bowling balls), but permanent Gadgets (the ones people saw with percents and triggers) are rewards for completing missions. Like SR3/4, there are Agent upgrades you buy with another item you can craft by finding collectibles on the map, or from mission rewards. So, there's no grinding for Diablo-style loot, but you can grind for crafting materials to make the temporary stuff.

I don't care much for co-op but my most important concern is that the teammates don't seem to talk to each other in the dev streams. Like why play a character-based game if they don't interact? So my question is: do they interact in any meaningful way/is there funny dialogue between whoever you bring to a specific mission? Or do they just scream into a void?

Was wondering/hoping if the civilian stuff and general quietness is just a big weird bug, there's been lots, so I wouldn't be surprised.

I think I get the layer of audio that's meant to be the farthest off stuff, kind of nice and soothing, but not even remotely right.
