Am I crazy or does this stink? I'm just not getting anything out of this at all. The vocal melody is practically nonexistent and for the first time his lyrics aren't working for me... Usually I'm able to pull some meaning or mood from his words but stuff like "I've been working on the new Oliver Twist" means nothing to me.

edit: Then again, Destroyer tracks often reference other tracks in the same album so this might make more sense in the context of the full album.

(note: Dan Bejar is one of my very favorite artists)

Usually I need the whole album and a few listens before everything sinks in and makes sense to me, but he is also one of my favorites so I'm expecting this to work the same way.

I'm really hoping it's an album of tracks like his Kaputt b-sides. An album of Ravers would be sweet.

Jeez, tickets were only $30 to see her last month in NZ and I was surprised to see them that cheap.

Still, I'm glad to see her moving up and she's definitely worth going to see.

I was slow and will be in row G for this show but yes, happily paid the $50/ticket. It's amazing how (at least, so far, we'll see how this holds up as the odds of idiots being at the shows increases) she rapturously holds the attention of the audience. When she opened for the Decemberists earlier this year you could hear a dang pin drop at Brooklyn Steel. It was unreal

This is completly unrelated to the topic but I wanted to get your attention.

You should go do the honors of starting your The National new album thread, I remember the last one was alive for about 2 years after the first one.

Not feeling it too much yet, but a track being a grower is par for the course for this band.

Its not bad by any stetch, but its probably not gonna stay on repeat for a day like "the system only dreams in total darkness" did.

For any of you Crystal Castles fans, Alice Glass' first solo single came out and it sounds like a Purity Ring track, who Crystal Castles almost undoubtedly inspired, so poo poo's coming full circle here. It's good stuff.

You aren't missing out on much. The new CC vocalist is pretty good, though Amnesty (their newest album) only has a handful of good tracks at best.

One of the craziest shows I've ever seen was Crystal Castles in DC in 2010. Three DJs played three interminable opening acts; at one point, I think I was surrounded by people on ecstasy. When Crystal Castles finally took the stage, a seemingly possessed Alice Glass appeared out of nowhere, and flew into a berserkergang. She must have crowdsurfed near me like ten times. Half the time it was like, "Oh, cool, reach out and touch Alice Glass" — the other half of the time it was like, "This girl is going to fall on me if I don't hold her up." There was so much heaving back in the forth in the crowd, I felt short of breath a couple of times, and at the end of the show, my hands were wrinkled from keeping my hands against other people's backs and shoulders, just trying to keep myself from getting pushed over. It was nuts.

It's a piece of JUNK!
Mutemath just dropped the first, and probably only, video from their upcoming album. It's an odd choice for a single, since it's way more "guitar rock" than anything else I've heard from the album, and we all know that's not exactly "in" these days. (They still stubbornly refuse to push "Break The Fever", which has lots of hit potential based on the concert recordings I've heard.) On the other hand, I guess "War" is better for a basic band performance video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQwUMtqW5Oc

Sadly this may also be the last time the band gets together on camera at all, as Darren King (drummer and co-lead songwriter) quit the band last week.

Alice Glass surprise dropped her new EP. It's not all as strong as that first single, but it's still way more entertaining and memorable than the last Crystal Castles album.

Also that first single was probably the least noisy sounding song on it.

Had a great time seeing Phoenix last night in Bangkok. I'm a huge fan of Ti Amo, their newest album, and especially "Fior Di Latte" which I don't think gets much radio time. I never have much luck with my random favorite songs getting played life, and I figured it was the same story here, until the very end of encore when they played it. :gizz:
