We Hate Movies - Some cool fat nerds from NYC who review bad movies in a format that is similar to RLM in the "friends having beers and making jokes" category. Tons of great episodes and jokes.

Astonishing Legends - A slightly spooky/slightly funny podcast exploring bigfoots, dogmen, jersey devils, etc. in a way that isn't quite tinfoil hat but isn't inviting people on to make fun of them in post edits. Some bone chilling episodes.

What are your favorites? Any topic, you can even recommend a starter episode or something. Make your commute less lovely.

The F Plus

quote:

The Internet is truly an amazing thing. With scarcely any effort at all, a person can find all sorts of really useful information out there. A staggering amount of information, years of university-level knowledge in any field imagined, can be accessed with little more than a few clicks and keystrokes. The sum total of human endeavour is available to anybody, if they can simply find the right way to search for it.

We at The F Plus are not really interested in any of this, though.

The Internet is also a way for people to express themselves. Never before has it been so easy for anybody to reach an audience of thousands, if not millions. Fame can be easily had where not so long ago it would have been inaccessible. Never before has it been so easy for people with similar interests to collect together to share their views in whatever drew them together.

Most of the time, this is good. We at The F Plus are not really interested in that, either.

Twenty years ago, people with truly bizarre interests or hobbies or thoughts might have just kept quiet about it and lead normal lives. Now that they can find people worldwide with similar interests, they freely discuss it in public. We've become accustomed to simply glossing things over we might read, but having it read aloud can really bring to light just how bizarre some of these hobbies, or thoughts, or interests might be.

That's what we do at The F Plus, we are a bastion of light and clarity--or we just like to read the weird things people post on the Internet and have a bit of a laugh while we're at it.

I totally understand 7c Nickel's viewpoint about We Hate Movies. For a while there I was tapering off listening to every new episode, and couldn't articulate why. I thought part of it was just that I didn't care about the movies they covered, but it wasn't until the Power Rangers movie (of all things) where it clicked, after the third thing they complained about something not happening / something that happened that was front and center. I mean, I get that they were watching it hoping for a trainwreck that wound up being an inoffensive Breakfast-Club-With-Robots film, but it kinda retroactively made me think about everything I was already thinking.

Anyway, my list, in no particular order (and despite wherever I link to, you can pull these down on any old podcast device):

This Was Rad - co-hosted by goon Neilpeartnoy, TWR had a unique gimmick for over 100 episodes: two mid-30s men talk about the movies of the 80s that they grew up with, combined with one of the host's 14 (now 15) year old daughter. The daughter has since left the show (spoiler alert: that movie you think everyone loves? The new generation doesn't), but I'm still in love with the show because the two hosts are capable of compartmentalizing their former and current appreciation for the movies they review. Their core end-of-line is two questions: Was This Rad? (Was this movie fun as a kid when you watched it, or would you have loved this movie had you watched it as a kid), and Is This Rad?, where the question is the same, but for today. It's refreshing to hear people honestly realize that the 80s films they idolized were, generously, crap. And usually racist as poo poo. I was on episode 66, where they covered Killer Klowns From Outer Space.

CadaverCast: A Father-Son Monster Movie Podcast - An incredibly charming podcast. Jef Burnam and his 5yo son Alistair cover the classic (and not so classic) monster movie films. Both hosts are outstanding, but as you might expect, Alistair steals the stage. They alternate between covering specific monster movies, and "Al's Monster Stampede", where Al discusses a type of monster, how to defend yourself against it, and any speciic movies you should watch to assist in your research.

Quote Unquote Guilty is a wonderful long-form podcast where host Joe Sanders (and others) talk about movies that they not-so-secretly love. They aren't blinded by nostalgia - they rip into the movies just as much as anyone would - but they go in depth about what they loved about the movie as well. I'd recommend a listen to their latest episode on 1998's Godzilla, where they discuss at length about how the real misstep of the movie was not letting audiences see the titular monster before the movie came out. People would've gotten their NOT MY GODZILLA nonsense out of their systems months before the movie actually came out. I was on an episode about Freddy Vs Jason that hasn't come out yet.

The Greatest Generation is self-described as a Star Trek podcast by two guys (Benjamin Ahr Harrison and Adam Pranica) who are a little bit embarassed to be doing a Star Trek podcast. Funny as hell, the show pokes fun at The Next Generation in a way that more Roddenberry-aligned Trek podcasts refuse to go. It's almost required to start from the beginning of the podcast's run due to the amount of gags and callbacks the hosts make to characters (after all, you won't know what a Drunk Shimoda is until you've heard them cover The Naked WhicheverOneWasTNG), but it's totally worth doing. This show made me abandon Misson Long, because I realized I wanted to laugh at this show, and thanks to these guys, I do.

Ranger Danger is a Power Rangers podcast, and it's one of two that I listen to often. I can't tell you which one I like more (which is probably why I have two PR podcasts on my phone), but I can say I love Mathew and Michael's exasperation with a show from their childhood. Actuely aware of how bad the show was and is, they convey a resigned sense that had the budget been a dollar more, if the targeted age range was one number higher, bits and pieces of it might've been more entertaining. They really shine when there's a plot that was legitimately interesting or compelling, even if it was entirely on accident. This is a podcast where a host can claim early in the episode that they hate the show, but ten minutes later say they love it. They also bounce around a bit; covering newer Power Rangers episodes and comics that have come out. Perhaps best codifying the tone of Ranger Danger is their opinion on the new movie: they liked it for all the things it did that the original show never could, or never would, because it was a 90s tv show for babies, and this wasn't. They also have regular guests on, with varying experience with the show. Some know more than the host, and some are seeing the show for the first time. Quite funny, as well.

The second Power Rangers podcast I keep on my phone is The Morphin Grid. Jake and Josh are a laugh riot as they navigate the series with varying degrees of anger and annoyance. Sometimes they go on tangents and their What-Was-The-Pink-Ranger bit can skew a little creepy, but I'm not kidding when I say these dudes are funny as hell, covering a show that they sometimes can't yell at hard enough for being a stupid show for babies. They have some minor technical issues with some early episodes not being linked to properly, but they say they are working on it.

Used to listen to a fuckload of podcasts during school/work/exercise, still do. I feel like I've gone in and out of a lot of podcasts, some of it is phases, vibes, my taste in humor. I remember listening to a shitload of MBMBAM, years and years ago I think starting before they got on MaxFun...and at some point I stopped, despite it once being my favorite comedy podcast. They're still fine, but it doesn't click with me the way it once did. I'll still be around for every new Till Death Do us Blart though
The same happened with Uhh Yeah Dude, but I recently reconnected with that, managed to dip back in...and it almost has the same appeal it did when that was my favorite comedy podcast.
Hell I remember when I'd just listen to a shitload of...The Bone Zone???? as my current comedy podcast flavor. Yeah, I've totally forgotten about that, but there was a phase in my life when I was all about that and their humor style, and now I can barely remember the podcast name. I'll check back in to see if there've been more Davey guest eps.
And now I'm enjoying the comedy stylings of Cum Town to some degree. Although they hit a pet peeve I have with a lot of comedy podcasts, including ones I named already, in that standup comedians from The Dollop to Cum Town to The Bone Zone to whatever are always pretty tryhard with their humor. I mean, it's their job. They're always taking shots, so to speak. That's why I can appreciate the casual sort of vibes UYD brings to the table.
I do enjoy We Hate Movies, but not as much and prolifically as I used to either, and I entirely burned out of listening to the Dollop ages ago. A lot of this is just me changing, the podcasts changing, and just overexposure, I'm sure.
Similarly I used to listen to a lot of Hardcore History, but the dude has just gotten kind of repetitive and lame for me when it comes to better options like...anything Mike Duncan is doing. Also used to binge Skeptoid & Sword and Scale but I eventually learned both were hosted by kind of worthless creeps in their own way, with Skeptoid it's still at least worth a listen occasionally I guess. Sword and Scale I abandoned a while ago, it's just puerile Nancy Grace type trash, Casefile is better for true crime anyway.

Uhh Yeah Dude
The classic conversational comedy podcast recommendation. A real granddaddy podcast that has stood the test of time. I think the most credit I can give it is that unlike a lot of these flavors of the month, or even flavors of the year(s), I can dip back into UYD after many many episodes and it still (mostly) holds the same appeal.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xluqh7SdMLc

Chapo Trap House
The premier political humor podcast imo, not that there are a lot of great options for good political podcasts whether they're comedic or not. It's just solid leftist politics and humor from the dirtbag twitter left, really hit their stride during the 2016 election.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYp_6DcUzbU&t=43s

It's too recent to list among my favorites, but similar to Chapo Trap House, Trillbilly Worker's Party is a fun political/humor podcast from a bunch of Appalachians. Just the sort of accents you wanna hear joking & discussing leftist politics. They're a really likable bunch compared to the Chapo crew, but not quite as good...yet.

I like The F Plus and Lou Reads the Internet for You okay. They're fine for what they are and usually about as good/revolting/entertaining as whatever internet text they're reading that day. Nothing gamechanging.
I listen to a decent chunk of basketball/NBA podcasts but I can't really assume everyone wants recommendations for stuff like that. The Lowe Post, The Starters, etc.

In terms of historical stuff, Revolutions, Inward Empire, Our Fake History, all decent, though the latter tends to be more entertainment/comedic delving into historical myths. Revolutions and Inward Empire tend to be more dry/informative compared to stuff like Hardcore History, but they're really good quality historical podcasts.

I guess the big trending series like Serial and S-Town kind of go without saying. Similarly Untold: the Daniel Morgan Murder has its moments.

So in terms of what's lasted...in terms of what I'd say are my absolute favorites, it's probably only Uhh Yeah Dude and Chapo Trap House. We Hate Movies, Trillbilly Worker's Party, F-Plus, and Cum Town are a lot of fun though.

I'm also a cum boy who enjoys Cum Town. It's freeflowing and the boys have such a natural rapport together.

Even though I don't care about much of old Hollywood and almost all of old TV, I still enjoy Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast. It's fascinating to hear people who have been in the business for such a long time talk about themselves and who they've met. And even though Gilbert has a genuine love of these movies and shows, that doesn't stop him from continually bringing up the same lewd stories about Cesar Romero, Danny Thomas, and Paul Lynde.

Puck Soup is better than it has any right to be. It's a Nerdist podcast about hockey, it's hosted by two people that have separate hockey podcasts, and it dabbles in nerd stuff and pop culture. It's also funny and it has good guests, although they'll never get Margot Robbie like they wanted to at the start. Obviously, it's not on regularly at the moment because the fun offseason stuff is over.

The Dollop is a bi-weekly American History Podcast. Every week, Dave Anthony reads a story to his friend, Gareth Reynolds, who has no idea what the topic is going to be about.

http://www.dolloppodcast.com/

The hosts are funny and likeable. Even if you're familiar with the subject matter of the week they always put an interesting spin on things. There's not a lot of inside jokes so you can jump in pretty much anywhere. I recommend the Oofty Goofty episode as a good starter.

Last Podcast On The Left. Every week Ben Kissel, Henry Zebrowski, and Marcus Parks explore the horrors of the world both imagined and real.

Serial killers, the occult, conspiracy poo poo and the supernatural. This one isn't for everybody. Very vulgar and they make light of some pretty disgusting poo poo. I find the occult and conspiracy episodes a little ponderous but the "Heavy Hitters" serial killer stuff is great. Very well researched and as funny as anything about serial killers could hope to be.

The F-Plus is a topshelf podcast and those are two of my favourite episodes!

Other podcast I listen to are The Last Podcast on the Left and Serial. TLPOTL is three friends talking about a new topic each week and they can generally be broken into serial killers, paranormal events/entities, and conspiracy theories. They do a lot of research on each topic and I think they have a good set-up where one guy talks about the facts, another asks him leading questions, and the other is a goblin. In general it's a really funny podcast where they talk about weird interesting stuff.

Serial probably doesn't need any explanation but the second season was weak and I don't know if I have much interest in it anymore.

Resting Pitchface is a baseball podcast run by three Nats fans. It's funny and informative, they have good chemistry, and their takes are good.

The absolute best part is following certain improv artists from their inception on the show and seeing their arc. They're really consistent with their characters and it's really rewarding to hear how these characters originally appeared. I know this isn't some obscure podcast, but if you haven't heard it, picking up the anniversary or best of's is really worth it. I think most all of it is behind a paywall now tho unfortunately.

That said, if you like them at their goofiest, start listening to Round Table of Gentlemen. It's 2/3rds of the Last Podcast crew and a bunch of their friends bullshitting with a loose news-based structure. Also it has Henry's hornier, equally cool sister, Jackie Zebrowski.

I don't like Last Podcast because they tend to undermine the actual content with real lovely jokes. I tried to listen to the Bloop episode, and even when they are like, "let's play the sound.." one guy is just talking over it saying how it sounds like a fart or whatever.

Astonishing Legends is great. Listen to Skinwalker Ranch & Laughing Indian for sure. If you like it, try the one about the time traveling guy (Titor, I think? It's real good), dyatlov pass (an old story but presented in a way that's entertaining even if you know it), the dude kidnapped by bigfoot, oak island... Honestly there's only a few episodes I didn't find really interesting. And the way they describe themselves is, "open minded, but not so much that your brain falls out".

Once you run out of Astonishing Legends to listen to, try Mysterious Universe. I'm still working through the catalogue, but lots of good stuff.

Jim Harold's Paranormal Podcast (and Jim Harold's Campfire Stories, same site) is also pretty good, but the host is kind of a non-entity. He just lets the callers or guests ramble in a way unimpeded that Legends does not - which is good in some ways, but the unedited nature doesn't really form a narrative in a way that AL stories tend to.

E: Definitely listen to the Mothman episodes of AL.

I love Astonishing Legends and Mysterious Universe, but at the same time I love Last Podcast for the shouty crass friend experience.

Most of my favourites have already been mentioned here, but a fairly new podcast I really like is E1. It's by some weird/chapo adjacent twitter guys and each episode is supposed to be the pilot to some kind of new podcast. The highlight so far is probably episode three which is this increasingly absurd, yet deadpan oral history of the Detroit Pistons.
Can I get another link to this? It's too generic a podcast name and new so it's hard for me to find it. link is broken. I like the premise, isn't that kinda what Lowtax does on his podcast?

As far as I can tell the name is supposed to be unsearchable as a joke.
