But enough about your posting. I can only hope you won't spend the next half of a decade loudly complaining about how much you're hurt by what other people think whenever even the flimsiest, most irrelevant opportunity presents itself :qq:.

Anyway, this thread has actually been pretty good so far and I'd like to keep it this way so talk about games and don't obsess about other people's posting and we should be good. Don't start this toxic poo poo in here.

Whenever people post charts like these I always like to see what games on Steam are beating them.

For example Undertale, a single-player pixel art RPG that was released in 2015 and can be beaten in 10 hours.

It doesn't go too much into the post-release, unfortunately, though I suppose it'll be a little while longer before people make proper post-mortems on just what the heck happened to make Lawbreakers flop so hard. It's kinda amusing that they spent so much time talking about Overwatch and how to set themselves apart from Overwatch and how they aren't really like Overwatch at all we're all mature and stuff, and then out of nowhere the PUBG behemoth flopped into the room and ate all their pie instead.

To me, it was completely obvious the direction Law Breakers was going to go (ie: dead on arrival) based on the beta player count. If you can't attract more than ~3k of people during a time the game is completely free, why would that spike on release. Surely everyone who's ever going to be interested in the game tuned in for the beta.

Anecdotally, I tried the beta out for 5 minutes and was perturbed when I was kicked out of my own private lobby trying to run the tutorial for apparently taking too long to pick a character. I had to wait because it seemed to take a very long time loading each one when I clicked. Really put me offside

I've always felt like Shooters in general are constantly over saturated yet they consistently are one of the most popular genres, both on PC and consoles.

Personally I had my fill playing endless hours of Counterstrike during High School/University so all of them just look like boring rehashes of poo poo I already played too much of (except for a brief infatuation with overwatch)

Sounds like they lifted that feature straight from Overwatch.

Overwatch for its part drew in millions of people who normally would never play a team-based shooter and barely spend any time in competitive modes with strong character design, ease of use and dress-up options. Like it or not, that was a key factor in Overwatch's success and how they managed to climb to the top of an already saturated market (being a Blizzard game certainly helps). Lawbreakers in their infinite clout decided to run in the exact opposite direction and play to some theoretical niche of Attitude Era gamers whose competitive needs were somehow not being satisfied.

Overwatch came onto the scene featuring characters full of style and, well, character. I watched some Lawbreakers being played and if the characters said anything at all it was just something bland and generic. They were all dressed in similar, dark uniforms, and were all using the plain ol' guns and rocket launchers I've seen before. Compare that to Overwatch's lone "Call of Duty shootman", Soldier 76, who still has a brightly colored design, fun catch phrases, and the whole "Dad 76" persona the fanbase came up with and Blizzard has embraced.

Lawbreakers looks like it should play like some kind of Overwatch and Unreal Tournament hybrid and I would normally be all over that. Unfortunately, the property has absolutely no hooks to bring me in and I imagine that's true for tons of other people that don't want to drop Overwatch or CS:Go or whatever else they're already playing to try something else that isn't immediately appealing in any way. It might very well be fun to play but I'll never know. At least it will just be quietly forgotten instead of ridiculed on its deathbed like Battleborn.

I roll my eyes whenever anything comes out of the gate billing itself as "for omega gangsta Real Gamerz™ only!!" because A) this hypothetical niche does not actually exist, and B) the only guaranteed way to get any competitive scene going is to have as many people playing your game as possible.

There are several different FPS niches for Real Gamerz™ including survival games or tactical shooters but nobody wanted to play Overwatch with Gears of War aesthetics, that's a product nobody was waiting for. People would flock to a new incarnation of an Unreal/Quake-like arena shooter with high production values but that's not what Lawbreakers is either.

It's definitely going to do better than Lawbreakers. The FPS arena genre comes with its own set of hurdles though including how polished the gunplay and movement is, cut some corners and you're out even if your game is the only one on the market.

I loved Day of Defeat and love Day of Infamy. Even though Day of Infamy only has around 1000-500 people playing at any one time it still feels good. I like the old style jump in and play some rounds then jump out style. I don't want massive charts or scores or anything, just let me gently caress around with some good mechanics and be able to leave in a reasonable time and I'll be happy.
It's me I'm the old gamer.
