I think twisted transistor was probably the last song of theirs I was ok with. Far cry from the glory days though.

I thought twisted transistor was absolutely awful, but then I was never that into Korn. Their first few albums had some tracks I liked but that was it.

I remembered the lyrics being unusually bad so I looked them up and they are seriously awful even for nu metal.

"Anesthetize this bitch, I'm not the time
Just let me be
Between you and them things

Music do
And then it its reaching
Inside you forever preaching
gently caress you too
Your screams will whisper
Hang on you twisted transistor"

It doesn't even parse properly.

It's a piece of JUNK!
They never printed their lyrics, so most of what's on lyric sites is pure guesswork. I'm pretty sure those are wrong. I don't suppose the real lyrics are much better though.

(For example though, "I'm not the time" in the above lyrics is actually just the word "anesthetize" repeated again)

Metallica's live shows these days are not incredible, at least from videos I've seen. James was never a "good" singer but what he had used to work, now it doesn't. and Lars has gotten worse. they sound like they don't rehearse.

they've been streaming their pre-show warmups lately and sometimes they're basically a jukebox and other times they sound like a bunch of nervous kids doing metallica covers at their 8th grade talent show

Slipknots live show is definitely falling off. They're getting older now, so they don't bring the same energy to the stage, and for the most part their older songs are the only ones that are truly great live. There are some exceptions though.

https://youtu.be/qnZtGDFu3k0

Korn is getting boring as well, although they toured this summer with Robert Trujillo's 13 year old son as a fill in at bass, and I guess those shows were all really good.

Rammstein is the only major live band from the time period that's on the upswing. Tickets are expensive, but that is a show you don't want to miss. They're working on a new album now too, which will be their first in like 5 years. Unlike these bands that are falling off, Rammsteins last album was one of their best, and the new one from what we've seen of it is promising.

Re: Joey Jordison, he's in a new project that I think just released their debut album. It's called VIMIC. I like it.

I haven't seen them post-Glastonbury 2014 so if they've dropped off then that's a huge drop because that show was incredible and every show I've been to of theirs has gotten better and better every time. Some of the most solid, organised, rehearsed, polished live shows I've ever seen. Mind you, I wasn't a fan of Hardwired. So I hope that quality hasn't translated into laziness...

Korn had a period, I hate to say this but when Head was gone, where their gigs were insane. Not as polished but felt as if they wanted to prove they could still go without him. Saw them last year with Limp Bizkit and LB were admittedly better on the night, but by the end of the night Korn had won everyone back. The show felt far more like a big time rock show, though: everyone in their place, nothing missed, every beat perfect, if lacking a little heart. Bizkit were a lot more *fun*, but I don't know if that's just because Wes Borland couldn't even pretend to conceal his disgust with Durst all night.

I saw Metallica almost one year ago, it was the opening of the new stadium in Minneapolis and it was incredibly fun and entertaining. It's been a while since I've seen Korn but they seem to be hit or miss based on the night.

I'm unimpressed, but I'm still not sure whether Maynard or Howerdel is the main creative force behind APC. I think Maynard's been phoning it in for years, but I don't know enough about Howerdel.

The Doomed would be perfectly at home on Mer de Noms. It works and I'm happy that they're not doing something out there, but I guess I expected some evolution over a decade of radio silence.

The memorial tribute concert for Chester was really good, I caught it live on YouTube. When they performed Numb they turned off all the lights except one spotlight on an empty mic with a wreath of leaves around it and the audience sang Chester’s part. Choked me up. If you are a Linkin Park fan definitely check it out, you can still watch it.

There's nothing wrong with it I suppose. Unless you count the "babby's first graphic design" cover art.

If you can't listen right now but you're just dying to know: yes, the new singer is doing a mid-period Scott Weiland impression.

Psychostick (beer is good, beer is good, beer is good, and stuff) usually do a love letter to a band in the form of a holiday parody every Christmas. This year, they've got a slipknot one for Thanksgiving.

Their Rammstein and SOAD Christmas covers are probably in the related videos, and are hilarious.

What exactly is "post-grunge"? I saw a few posts touching on this a couple pages ago, but I'm still not sure. Is it just the literal "after grunge" thing that was going on in the alt rock scene in the mid 90s? I'm familiar with the terms "post-punk" and "post-rock" which are kind of misnomers so cue confusion.

Stuff like Bush, Creed, Nickelback etc. that took the sound of grunge bands (mostly Pearl Jam) and watered it down.

Basically any band that appears on the CD compilations “Buzz Cuts” and “Buzz Ballads” or the soundtrack to the first Spider-Man movie.

"eat you alive" is probably one of the dumbest songs ever written in that respect:

Hey you, Mrs. I-Don't-Know-What-The-gently caress-Your-Name-Is
I'm drawn to you; something's magnetic here
If I could approach you or even get close to the scent
That you left behind, I'd be fine

No doubt now (No doubt)
You bring out (Bring out)
The animal inside

[Hook]

I'd eat you alive!
I'd eat you alive
I'd eat you alive!
I'd eat you alive

[Verse 2]

Hey you, Mrs. Too-Good-To-Look-My-Way and that's cool
You want nothing at all to do with me
But I want you, ain't nothing wrong with wantin' you
Cause I'm a man and I can think what the hell I want
You got that straight?

No doubt now (No doubt)
I'd love to (I'd love)
Sniff on them panties now

[Hook]

I'd eat you alive!
I'd eat you alive
I'd eat you alive!
I'd eat you alive

[Middle Eight]

I'm sorry, so sorry (drat, you're so hot!)
Your beauty is so vain (drat, you're so hot!)
It drives me, yes, it drives me (drat, you're so hot!)
Absolutely insane

[Bridge]

I just want to look at you (Look at you, look at you, look at you)
I just want to look at you (Look at you, look at you, look at you)
I just want to look at you all day
There ain't nothing wrong, no
There ain't nothing wrong with that (Wrong with that, wrong with that)

Once you seep in (Once you seep in)
Under my skin (Under my skin)
There's nothing (Nothing), there's nothing (Nothing)
In this world that could wash you away (Wash you away)

Once you seep in (Once you seep in)
Under my skin (Under my skin)
There's nothing (Nothing), there's nothing (Nothing)
In this world that could wash you away (Wash you away)

[Middle Eight (refrain)]

I'm sorry, so sorry (drat, you're so hot!)
Your beauty is so vain (drat, you're so hot!)
It drives me, yes, it drives me (drat, you're so hot!)
