Yes, protecting a guy from brain damage by repeatedly getting hit while he's out on his feet is normal in boxing.

That was way more entertaining than it had any right to be. As a lifetime boxing fan I'm kinda sad cause I think this might've been another nail in the coffin unfortunately. Hardcore fans hated this fight, and I don't think it did enough to make any new fans out of the casuals/MMA fans that tuned in. The average UFC broadcast is WAAAAY more entertaining than this 100 dollar spectacle ended up being. Thankfully there's still some great boxing cards on the calendar, but this fight didn't do much to make any new fans stick around.

Good on these fellas for making 100 gajillion dollars though. I'm really happy for Conor.

It's more that he had taken about 5 straight punches to the head and was clearly just going to take more until he was knocked down.

Conor was done and couldn't intelligently defend himself. The ref stopped it to prevent unnecessary damage. It was a good stoppage.

TKOs or stoppages can be called for all kinds of reasons, although calling a TKO on somebody standing is more common in UFC than boxing, but this whole thing was never real.

He couldn't defend himself and was taking a lot of punishment. The cumulative punches in boxing are incredibly dangerous.
