Didn't they lose one ship during the mission? What's the estimated cost of that ship, is it less than the 100k credits?

This a main core gameplay loop issue. Which is baffling because nobody knows what its supposed to be. In all the showing which CIG has done, its all with spectacular explosions and easy to kill ships. i.e Railgun missing the cutlass and exploding ($125 maybe?).

Comparing apples to apples, ED's time to kill for class vs class, i.e cobra vs cobra can vary between 5 mins and 30 mins, given both pilots know how to deploy stealth (silent running), recharge shields with boosting out of firing range, use chaff, countermeasures and etc.

In SC however, this is rarely expressed on with $250 ships just exploding in 5 min battles (gamescome 2014 multicrew reveal?), superhornets ripping aurora ($45) to shreds with a single burst, cutlass ($125) doing a 180 without the pilot blacking out and blowing up a $350 glaive with its own missiles. Aside from showing off awesome cockpit animations, bells and whistles, ship ladder animations, cockpit startup animations, all which lend zero to actual gameplay, We don't know or have not been shown actual in-game value of these ships, value in terms of actual combat capability, trading capability, and even stealth capabilities. What CIG often stresses on are how cool or rather how much your signature is dampened by this awesome +$100 hull, and how awesome this ship's engines are or how capable a ship is in combat, without actually demonstrating anything.

Its car salesmanship at its best.

Pretty much. Its neat art, but thats its. As a game asset, its garbage. I still like it, on some level, along with several other ships, but that doesn't extend beyond how they appear as jpegs.

The IXM designed ship during that contest a few years back, is one of the best looking ships to come out of this whole fiasco, and its not even going to get into the 'game'.

The last couple of days have shown to me a shift in the shill marketing, bear with me, let me explain

It was like this for 2 years:
Look at game x doing it wrong, here is a video of SC doing it right. Followed by pre rendered marketing video.

This has changed, mention of other games has been dropped. This is the first significant shift in the shilling, I thought it might happen last year but here it is.

Now it's 50% damage control over Gamescon and 50% pure marketing of the game on its own merits.

There is nowhere to go from there except to 100% shilling of the game *as such*

Why is this significant? Because they are moving to address the criticisms levelled at them (fake videos, actual paid marketing shills) and each time they do this they reveal more of what they actually have as a functioning product.

Look at gamescon, what's the big picture - try and do it live without pre rendered videos in the middle of it. Failed utterly.

Look at now the forum shills - try and show the game as it is, everyone already knows the marketing vids are nonsense.

The burndown videos are part of this shift, the schedules were an early move in part of this shift.

As they move to reveal more and more reality in order to address the very very prominent cries of FAKE it becomes clearer to a greater number of people just how deep into development hell they are.

As the months go on, CIG by way of needing to continue their marketing will be forced to reveal more reality. The gap between CR's words and that reality will grow exponentially and might even snap.

I don't want to call this an ELE... but it's the closest thing I've seen to one in all the time I've followed this.

tl;dr only staunch backers are buying the fantasy, CIG have started marketing the reality to outsiders. This is the very very very early alpha of this marketing.

PS - Chris is a "loose cannon"

Remember Lando singing lowered expectations? It does seem like they're trying to bring it in for a crash landing.

I still don't like the overall shape much (look at how there's only like 2 shots showing the whole thing), but they've already run through most of the classic shapes for cool spaceships. Crobbler obviously has a hard-on for a very generic style and nixes anything 'out there' save for that one alien ship. So the concept artists are starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel.

I had to go through their idiot brochure for the drat thing on their website just to get full shots of the drat thing.

Its lunacy in and of itself. Why would you not want to post a fat stack of pictures of the newest $400 jpeg you're trying to shovel onto whales in a desperate bid for cash?

Could they not even bother doing lovely renderings of it this time like they've done with every other ship of late?

Sometimes it's not the bomb that's retarded.

...Why did they need to follow the script, again?

1) Players run past on-rails NPC to get a quest. (there's no indication this does anything at all)
2) The players get a gun (can be done with a console command)
3) The player spawn a ride (a console command)
4) Another player picks them up in a ship. (ship spawn - can be done with a console command, the rest in on the pilot player)
5) They travel to a different map (a console command)
6) There's a box (a console command)
7) Enemies spawn in (a console command)
8) There's a railgun shot (a console command or a suicide button)
9) Idris spawns in (a console command)
10) Space enemies pop up (a console command)

Here's their own console help

Why the gently caress was there the need to run through the entire thing again? Unless the console doesn't work right, and assets have to be preloaded, and pulling them from the disc with the engine running kills the system.

They didn't even have ready saves for various points on the mission.

This game is just too advanced for checkpoint saves. We have to wait for Crobbers to invent the same drat thing again something completely new and revolutionary to change the way games are played forevermore.

Do you feel it, Zach?
My coffee warned me about it.

They didn't use saves because this is not a stable release in any way or form. They had to run the demo from the beginning again because it's cobbled together to work in one set sequence of scripts - doing anything out of order ran a risk of another crash. Maybe it would work, maybe it wouldn't - they decided it's not worth the risk.
