Several kits with the Sting Ray just got a whole lot better! Sloshing Machine is definitely gonna see a significant rise in usage.

Boy, it sure is nice to be able to hit people using inket now, and not be spawn camped by two of them using it with impunity. Even better, smacking them down when they try to use it as a get out of jail free card like it was before.

Boy, it sure is nice to not instantly die the second a tri-slosher sees you.

Boy, it sure is nice that the hamster ball isn't swatted away like a household fly anymore.

RIP Tentatek Splattershot though, holy poo poo. I think that kit is the biggest loser of the patch. Tri-Slosher got enough small hits to make it not completely ridiculous (maybe), but Tentatek got straight up dumpstered.

Tri-Slosher trip report: It's still a good weapon. It's just not a crutch bad players can rely on now. Anyone who was actually good with the weapon will probably still be good with it. Though I encountered some really bad Tri-Slosher players up here. Some people really did not adjust to the nerfs well at all. :laffo:

Got the Splatoon 2 bundle for my significant other, it's really really nice. Walmart also had about 20 of them, if anyone is on the fence I highly recommend it.

Vanilla splattershot kit is ok. Burst bombs are handy and versatile. Splashdown is better now but I'm still not sure how to get good value from it. I kinda like it as a way to deny a kill or refill my ink when I'm in trouble, but that kinda leads into holding it which is never ideal. Inkjet is still pretty good at that too plus it inks more and has more killing potential.

Value from splashdown is highly map/comp based. You will almost never be able to just walk into a group and use it - it gets you out of a jam when you see ink heading in your direction and know you will be dead before you can face your opponent. It also lets you completely clear the tower/splat zone, especially when you drop in from above. It also puts the entire enemy team on notice that camping super jump zones is a bad idea.

An example of Neph's last point is that goons that play with me regularly have stopped camping Super Jump landings (I'm a Splat Roller/Hero Roller main).

EDIT: To actually add to the conversation, another thing about Splashdown is that there are two damage zones outside of the lethal zone, one for 70 damage and one for 55. You can use those ranges, and the brief invincibility you get when you land, to splat people that escape from the lethal area, or soften someone up first and use Splashdown to guarantee the splat. Splashdown can be devastating on The Reef Splat Zones, due to the zone being right below the bridge. A well positioned Splashdown can break, or take, the point in one action.

Did they lower the amount of damage the Ink armor can absorb? Or did they change it so that any attack that does 80+ damage instantly destroys it?

Ink Armor was good but I didn't think it was so good that it needed nerfing. Dang!

They made it so that, if single hit does over 100 damage, the damage past 100, up to a Max of 80 damage, bleeds through to the person you're hitting, bypassing the armor, as well as breaking it.

how to use splashdown:

1) fill special
2) open map
3a) jump to someone who looks like they're in a bad position
3b) if it's splatzones or tower control, jump into the point
4) while mid air check to see if any enemies are where you're jumping
5) if 4=true, :getin:

like a poster above mentioned, one of my friends i regularly play with has been making a note to read player names in super jump markers and if she sees mine she just leaves instead of camping

it's extremely good in singular splatzones since people tend to be bunched up on it, i regularly get triple kills that way

also if you're in front of the path the tower is taking but not on the tower, popping splashdown will jump you up high enough that you will land on the tower. it's better to splashdown mid super jump because it comes out quicker that way (note: this may not be true but it feels like it) but splashdowning into a tower from below is sudden enough that it can get some people

Also, PSA, if you have a 1st gen Pixel, the Nintendo Switch app on Android fucks your volume control and bluetooth audio while it's open. You can close it to fix the issue or deny the mic permissions to be able to leave it open and not get the problem. . Obviously you can't use the voicechat if you deny the mic permissions.
