Not that I support paid mods like this. They're basically the exploitative "apprenticeship" of the gaming industry. Use the promise of a foot in the door to make people do your work while paying them basically gently caress all and possibly reaping in profits far outstripping their wage.

i'm honestly a bit surprised they haven't just gone with a shopify-for-your-mod style. just loving provide a place to upload, set a price, i'll take 5% when someone buys your poo poo, done.

I do think Bethesda missed a trick not hiring dedicated modders. Hell, look at Enderal for Skyrim- an entirely new world with custom character progression, characters, and arguably a better-written storyline than Skyrim's, at least by my lights. I'd even say Skyrim's only worth buying for Enderal.

Not sure Valve is a great example anymore, they don't bother making content for CSGO, TF2, or DOTA, they just have a million unpaid workers throw content onto the workshop, cherry pick the best stuff, and then pay them five percent of the profit from the thing.

There's also the fact that they don't make games any more so it's an even worse example

It's the "I'll take 5% when someone buys your poo poo" is where Bethesda hosed up. Between Valve and Bethesda, the creator only got 25% of the takings from their mod sales.

That was back in the good 'ol days. Valve have steadily been increasing the amount they take; an article from earlier this thread suggests that the content creator now gets about 5% of the money.

Yeah content creators used to get about 20%, now it's way less. And Valve basically said "You get 5% or you get nothing". Even the creators who had an item on the market that used to be 20% was reduced to 5% or whatever, no items were grandfathered in with the original split.

Most of the backlash against the original paid mods attempt was because people were taking their existing mods and locking them behind a paywall and causing all sorts of drama and technical issues, as dumb as paying real money for skins is so long as it is it's own separate thing like this then it'll be easy to ignore.

It isn't separate, it changes the exe (so stuff like script extender has to update, also changes the UI so UI mods mess uo) and it downloads gigs of poo poo because you get the files if you want the mods or not.

That's what the Creation club IS, though. Every modder who put something on it entered a full employment contract to produce that mod. Trainwiz is making something for the CC. If a dedicated modder wants in, they can and will apply for it, if they haven't already been approached by Bethesda.

I played with these mods or something like that before. Unless this is really advanced, there is a slight problem with it - the vehicle is treated like a tank, which makes the ai impossibly good once it gets on board. Like the mod I got, I think it was Front Mission Wanzers, we were struggling to aim and drive at the same time and got loving obliterated by other mechs controlled by ai and going 90+ km/h

It was pretty great, there's a dried lake on Altis that's perfect for showdowns like that.

The High MACS actually can't use AI gunner because of whatever script fuckery they did to make it work, so it's pretty much humans using it or bust.
Coincidentally, it also does not seem to be using tanks as the basis for movement, atleast not when walking or flying. it's ground rolling seems like it functions more like a car than anything.
