Hearing it has a poor localization does seriously make me hesitate. I mean, it was never a focus, but I did like the flavor that the world and characters added. The bosses in Celceta were not fun to me at all when they were the most fun parts of Felghana and Origin, so if 8 is anything like it I'll pass.

I would probably play a babelfish translation of Ys, if I'm honest. I'm much more bummed about it being another party-based Ys title but I knew that going in anyway.

Paperhouse posted:Can anyone think of some things that are not exactly missable but stuff you might want to be aware of in Cold Steel 2? I don't really care about the missable books and stuff like that, but one thing I was annoyed about in Cold Steel is that I never used the Moebius master quartz at all because I had no idea how ridiculously good it gets. I was never gonna grind out the levels on it so I essentially missed it just due to not knowing what it could do - stuff kinda like that? There's one particular thing that hasn't been mentioned. In Act 1 (the game doesn't have chapters like the previous games, it's divided into a prologue and 3 acts) in addition to the members of Class VII, the playable roster also has 3 "supporting characters", one of which you pick to come along as your team heads for a new location. (minor playable character spoilers: these are Toval, Claire and Sharon) During "resting days" you can have bonding events with them too. At the end of Act 1, the supporting character with whom you have the highest amount of link points will give you a unique item. The first character will give you an accessory that acts like a Cast2 quartz and which stacks with any Cast-quartz your character already has. The second character will give you an accessory that increases accuracy and adds a random chance to deliver criticals without a turn bonus. The third character will give you an accessory that acts like an Impede3 quartz (Zeus Gem) and stacks with whatever Impede-quartz you already have equipped. The second item is widely considered the worst, since accuracy is easy to raise with other accessories or Hit-quartz. The first item is considered okay, if you're into casting. The third item is widely considered the best because since it stacks with Impede quartz, it helps Rean brute-force his way past enemies' AT Delay resistence and inflict longer delay on top of it. So if you don't have any clear preferences, favor Super Maid with the power of your love and she will respond in kind by handing you an item that's right up there with Domination Quartz in terms of brokenness.

You can always try to nudge things that way by linking other "support" characters with your classmates whenever possible and link that character with Rean whenever in battle. There's also the last-minute option of inviting said character to the hot-spring scene, which is pretty much guaranteed to tip the odds.

Actually acts like what is practically the Cast 3 quartz, and it does some amazing work on the casters. Especially if you give them things like an Abyss Shadow to give them a nice boost to speed.

Impede is more useful since cs2 revamped spellcasting to be both faster and be cast instantly with new mechanics.

Honestly even with the new mechanics they're both pretty equal. It really just comes down to which you prefer. Do you want to rapidly burn down enemies with arts, or deny them from getting any turns.

Here's the full-size image: Guessing Vivi might end up being the recurring reporter for this game. Also, translated character stuff for the image: * Patrick T. Hyarms - Returned to his family? * Sister Rosine - Officially a sister, and an influence on the story. * Warrant Officer Alan - Joined the military. Still friends with Bridget. * Vivi - Now a journalist. There's a scene with her teasing Rean and the students. * Ferris Florald - Now a shop keeper? * Becky - A merchant. * Mint - A mechanic at the Branch II school. Kondo's comments: Patrick appears from the opening and has an affect on Rean and the others repeatedly. This story will shine a light on Rosine being a squire in the Gralsritter. [You should] pay attention to the movements of other individuals within the church. Mint is now involved in the soldat and Divine Knight maintenence, having wanted to work with Schmidt's exchange program. Other graduates that have not been revealed will also show up in the game, and they will have surprising connections to previous characters from the series. Also, here's some students from the other sections: Class VIII: Maya, Gustav, Jessica Schleiden Class IX: Pablo, Luize, Kairi Translated info for that picture: * Maya (Lamarre Province, sniper rifle) -- black-haired sniper with a steady hand, familiar with Eastern culture. * Gustav (Mining Town Aragon, hand canon) -- dependent, gentle guy of a few words. * Jessica Schleiden (Nortia Province, spear) -- trustworthy noble, specialised in the spearmanship of the Schleiden School. Close to Juna and Louise. * Pablo (Kreuzen Province, rifle/s) -- parents run a workshop, on good terms with fellow mechanics, speaks in Kansai-ben apparently. * Louise (Remiferia, orbal gun) -- calm girl with glasses, specialised in telecommunication. * Kairi (Lamarre Province, Orbal Staff) -- "shota-faced" son of a baron who puts great effort in becoming a fine Erebonian man. Vivi better show up all the time and troll Rean and Friends the entire time. Like a less flighty and more mischievous Dorothy. Also Ferris is looking mighty stylish there. EDIT - Also wondering if Rosine and/or Thomas will end up as a party members at some point, given their status.
