LUFTHANSA YOU FUCKING DICKWEASEL

After a year and a half, Broad City is back for its fourth season September 13th at 10:30. If you don't know what the show is about then this synopsis which I shamelessly stole from Wikipedia should help:

quote:

Broad City follows Ilana and Abbi, two Jewish American women in their twenties, who experience adventures of carelessness and frivolity in New York City. Ilana seeks to avoid working as much as possible while pursuing her relentless hedonism, and Abbi tries to make a career as an illustrator, often getting sidetracked into Ilana's schemes.

You could have watched the marathon last Labor Day but it's too late for that. Sorry.

Characters:

Abbi Abrams played by Abbi Jacabson - From Philly and working at a fitness center called Soulstice where she started as a cleaner and was eventually promoted to a trainer(after finding out that her boss starred in porno and her predecessor was possibly murdered). She's the more level headed of the two except we she gets really intoxicated or in a competition. Wants to be an Illustrator and likes smoking weed.

Ilana Wexler played by Ilana Glazer - From Long Island. Used to work(sleep) at a start up company called Deals, Deals, Deals but was fire after posting the Mr. Hands video on the company's official twitter. The free-spirited one who likes to party and thinks of herself open-minded despite being self-absorbed. Loves Abbi.

Lincoln Rice played by Hannibal Buress - Dentist who as in a sexual relationship with Ilana. Broke it off in order to be in a monogamous relationship with someone else.

Trey Pucker played by Paul W. Downs - Abbi's boss at Soulstice. She began dating him at the end of season three.

Jaime Castro played by Arturo Castro - Ilana's gay Guatemalan roommate. Became a US citizen in season two and gave this great gif.

Misc Info:

Ilana Glazer got married during the break! Congrats to her! She also starred in Rough Night with Scarlett Johanson and Paul W. Downs.

Abbi Jacabson starred in Person to Person and will be the voice of Nya in The Lego Ninjago Movie. These girls are blowing up!

Premieres tonight at 10:30

Yas! A thread for the new season!

I just ran through the series one more time over the course of the last week (it's all available on Hulu in the US), and it really holds up well. I'm so excited for this to come back.

Today is my birthday too, so the show's return is a pretty darn great present.

I'm worried about this season. My fear is that it's going to turn from a show that's very self-aware and funny to just another woke comedy show. Between them bleeping whenever they say "Trump," the rewriting of a good amount of this season, Abbi and Ilana being major Hillary stans (Ilana's Instagram profile pic was Hillary Clinton a few months after she lost), and the general direction that Comedy Central has gone in this year... I'm not very optimistic.

I think you mean "mazel tov!" I know it's not realistic to think "I'm gonna marry this famous person" but this news still breaks my heart.

Edit: My sister went to high school with Paul Downs.

This flashback owns bones and even I can't hate Bevers in that intro.

Ilana bombing on her lecture is so tragically awkward.

That was good. I always like a good diverging timelines plot. RIP Abbi+Ilana. Too beautiful for this world. Favorite thing in the episode might be Ilana calling her roommates the Madisons.

I forgot to add this in the op but I just wanted say D'Arcy Cardon plays a trainer at Soulstice. Just a little tidbit for anyone who's also a fan of The Good Place.

Holy poo poo I'm cracking up at Ilana and Abbi getting killed by the bus in what we thought was their actual origin story when it was the alternate timeline all along. I'm so glad this show is back.

Trump wasn't actually bleeped when the homeless guy said it backwards, right? If they got rid of that stupid idea, I'm glad.

It wasn't this at all, this episode was great. Maybe one of the best. Definitely another example of how Broad City's good at managing to be edgy, really funny, and kind of sweet simultaneously.

Yeah, the episode was good, and I loved the origin of Bevers. I thought last season kind of saw the show go up its own rear end a bit, but even though this episode was obviously built on self-reference, it felt earned to me.

I watched it last night and I thought it was as great as the average episode. Looks like my fears were unfounded.

South Park has the right idea, let Trump do Trump. No comedy show is going to become any better by becoming part of the #resistance

Trump has started to automate comedy the same way other industries are getting automated. Comedians are being cut out of the equation as the comedy gets delivered straight from the source

I liked that, because it was so obviously not true that it really took me by surprise when it turned out to be accurate. Like, they literally told me this was going to happen and I didn't believe them. Neat.

Yes, I agree. Last night's episode was pretty nice. I was expecting them to pull the carpet out of both Ilana and Abbi but they can at least have some nice things for a little while.

I thought the cold open was an example of try hard wokeness that someone worried about earlier in the thread. Like we'd all love to shut up pro-life protesters and I suppose that's funnier than giving them a Sorkin style list of facts but it's still pretty cringey.

Eh, you don't get many positive portrayals of abortion clinics on TV so even if the joke might have been "cringey" their hearts were in the right place.

The Behind the Seasons thing that aired after the episode said it was their way of giving closure to that arc, so I hope it isn't the end either, but it very well could be.

Funny sidenote to this: The producers contacted the Clinic Vest Project, which is a non-profit that distributes vests free to escort programs across the country, to get some vests. They decided to take a pass due to the script, but they (and the rest of us in various escort programs) thought it was hysterical.

Ilana has been killing it this season so far. This episode was a perfect mix of her being too insane to be real but the bathroom scene with Lincoln was genuinely good down-to-earth acting.
