Downloading the patch now. Haven't done any research about this, is it a ranged or melee class? I've only ever played Diablo 3 in single player so far and I found the melee classes way more entertaining in that aspect of the game.

Ranged / You have a small army working for you. (After you get to like level 15 or 20 and unlock skeletons)

Nobody answered my XCOM 1 question, no problems. Realized that if I need 15 mods to enjoy the basic game, why loving install & play it in the first place?

Marathon 1 replay has been going good. Getting used to the movement took 2 game sessions, and the zapruder levels of crazy in Marathon terminal nodes is fun.

Firaxis games always needing a expansion to be good is frustrating.
I played the hell out of original XCOM & XCOM followup Sea Terror though.

Part of the secret joy in the original XCOM series was sending out green troops with weapons totally unsuited for them
and watching their mind-controlled fuckups troll everything.

Don't have the firaxis XCOM 1 expansion, never enjoyed the base game enough to buy the expansion.
Something something troop roles something my fun something something Xenonauts?

The expansion is great because you can use MECs to punch people into cars, and that makes the cars explode.

There's tons of other improvements, but if that doesn't sell you I don't know what will.

Personally, I felt like XCOM and XCOM 2 were the two exceptions to the rule "Firaxis games are only good after their first expansion". Really hoping that holds true for Civ VI.

Anyways, if you didn't enjoy XCOM 1 on it's own, it's doubtful the expansion will do much for you.

Oh you sweet retarded summer child.

I don't see that happening for a Firaxis Civilization game.
Removal of game mechanics that are DLC only/Expansion features, prettier graphics with maybe 360 swingable camera view, gimped DLC only/Expansion game AI, land tiles that somehow become radioactive if you keep units on them too long, and el Presidente Trump in a DLC map are what I do see happening for Civ 6.

I realized what part of my problem is with Firaxis's XCOM series.
It kinda-maybe-definitely merged with the really lovely UFO Aftermath series in my head.
Both have neon lighting, weird camera angles, hardlocked troop classes, and ugly rear end graphics.

Marathon 1: Bob never disappoints. Neither does frog blasting the vent core.

 Idk, I loved Civ V at launch despite its issues and I thought BNW made it into perfection (for me at least). Every other Civ game I've played managed to get it's hooks into me even when it's been meh at launch.

VI didn't do anything for me. I go back and try it after every major patch but I've yet to finish a game.

My guess-predictions for a upcoming Civilization game were extrapolations from previous Firaxis releases & the overall dumbing down of the Civ series.

Noticed that Mechcommander 1 defaults to easy mode, which is why exploring the mission 3 map was so easy the first time.

Changed up the pilots and weapons loadouts, then finally replayed mechcommander 1 mission 3.
Had to thread a needle to avoid enemies/time enemy movements next to explosives & avoid damage.
Was able to fight & capture that ambush madcat mech,. The madcat survived 3 direct artillery strikes with a sliver of health left.
Even then it shredded 2 mechs/blew up another mech while I was trying to leg it down.
Next mission that madcat is gonna wreck poo poo for me.

Mechcommander games are roughly similar to the 1st 2 Jagged Alliance games, only mechcommander series has multiplayer/jagged alliance does not.
For both series I'd suggest playing the 2nd game 1st, or the standalone user mod versions. The first game in both series feel rough in comparison, like Super Mario Bros versus SMB 2.

Don't know if anyone still plays FTL but, remember not to skimp on value point in O2. Was playing the Stealth B, Hard Mode, Balance Mod, got to the Flag Ship. Hacking landed O2, first volley knocked out my O2, by the time I repaired it was in single digits and everyone was dead. My ship was basically alpha strike with Glave, Flak I, weapon preignitor, and hacking. Moral of the story, don't neglect "minor" systems. Still a really fun game that I love going back to between other games.

Someone linked to the "running Mechcommander 1/2 on windows 7/8/10" , which includes download info for the freeware release of Mechcommander 2.
The really old Battletech games came out in the floppy disk era, and it's semi-hard to find working copies now since floppy disks are beyond dinosaur extinct.

The gameplay video ded posted has a follow-up game called Crescent Hawks Revenge , and Crescent Hawk's Revenge is essentially MechCommander 0.75: The Clan Invasion,
and you find out the fate of the people from Mechwarrior 1 they get curbstomp decimated by Clanners.

If I could remotely walk the dumbass doing the " Lets All Play Battletech and rewrite Inner Sphere history"LP through installing & configuring Mechwarrior 2:Mercs in DOSBox for
his Mechwarrior 2 series of LP threads, I can help anyone out with Battletech game stuff.

Hi there, would you like to try some spicy products?
I'm halfway through the Twilight of the Clans series again, because I think I binged too hard on the 40k universe, and I'm getting a taste to a) play some of the old MW games for nostalgia, and b) play a good modern MW.

Any recommendations for the latter? Not sure what to think of MWO, but if it's decent, I'd give it a shot

Bolow
Feb 27, 2007

MWO is playable but it's not really that fun unless you're aware of how a particular map flows, because otherwise you'll just get dumpstered in the first 2 minutes of the match. Mercifully the trial mechs are actually good for the most part ever since the opted for community builds instead of stock table top builds.

There's the new Battletech game that's basically MechsCOM coming out later this year/early next from the Shadowrun dudes, that's pretty good judging from the skirmish and multiplayer beta

Unironically MWO is the worst game to play if you want a good modern MW game.
Titanfall, MAV(think Chromehounds for PCs), and Hawken are good calls.
Mechwarrior Living Legends has always-online spergs who will wipe out a newbie from across the map, but vehicles + the airplanes are just so fun.

Brigadoor is more like a mechcommander/mechwarrior mashup.
I have no opinions on the upcoming Battletech game from Shadowrun pc game developers. It might be good, it might be poo poo(I hated the combat in their shadowrun games).

Bolow
Feb 27, 2007

The new Battletech game is literally the rebooted XCOM mechanically, but with giant robots. So if that's your thing, you'll probably enjoy it. Right now it's just a AI Skirmish/Multiplayer Beta thing so the single player could just straight up suck, but mechanically it's good.

I'm hoping that Mechwarrior 5 pulls something out of the ashes of MWO, and the new turn-based Battletech I helped kickstart does something more.

I just beat Dishonored 2: Death of the Outsider. It was.....okay, not as good as Dishonored or Dishonored 2, but it had quality, but the story was rushed, and it definitely had that expansion feel.

Third World Reggin posted:

Best way to make good salvage is leggings. It was fun in MW2 shooting the legs off mechs, but Mechwarrior 2 didn't have fall physics, so the mech would just stand there on one leg.
