The tactical command mode was where your head whale would be on the bridge of a big capital ship, and would be able to issue orders to all ships in the fleet C&C style, to other players.

This was, I feel, a big turning stone because it was where "fleet action" became not only possible but something that it appeared that CIG were actively working on and fleshing out.

This was a birth of the mega whale, because they wanted to be that guy behind the huge campaigns, commanding it from an enormous ship surrounded by escorts, etc.

Unfortunately now though, years later, CIG can't even code a loving door to work, they can't get more than about 12 people on together in a very non-MMO type environment, so the chances of having this sort of thing in the game can very safely be said a solid 0% chance. :(

This is honestly true with some people. One of the guys I knew who bought an Idris years ago now did so because nobody listened to him in games because he was an idiot. He didn't often understand game mechanics let alone tactics or strategy. He bought the Idris because "Well everyone is going to want to fly on my cap ship and if you want me to participate you will have to listen to me." To be honest I hope Star Citizen does come out eventually because that guy is going to loose that ship day 1 of the PU if there ever is one and man I want to be a fly in that TS or Discord if that poo poo goes down.

Hey now, every small step like an in-game air traffic controller with a surfer dude voice adds up and moves Star Citizen closer and closer to being ready to make its next announcement that gameplay features are definitely probably going to be added at some point in the future, hopefully. The pace of development is really speeding up now, so there might be almost two dozen small, gameplay-free things arriving in just the next couple of years! That's nearly one and a half patches!

I wonder if the rights management shell company they opened up is going to be primarily concerned with selling the rights to their customer list, seeing as that's the most valuable IP they actually own.

They really blew that one big time.

2.1 January 2016.
2.2 March 2016.
2.3 also March 2016.
2.4 June 2016.
2.5 August 2016.
2.6 December 2016 (3.0 release date)

We're just about at October 2017, still 2.6.

Monthly releases looking great, just let me adjust my timecube a little.

After air traffic controls, you have to have Space Port Customs.

Imagine, waking up in your wank pod, ordering your ship, and then waiting an hour to get patted down and your crate that you are carrying scanned.
Its going to have 100s of hours of mo-cap NPCs.

Coming soon in 3.0.1 2022.

That's why they're always working so hard on those cafeteria animations: it's the biggest blocker between now and the MVP. If you pledge $40, you can get unlimited chocolate pudding!*

Here’s a sickening truth. As 3.0 started slipping they added features for a while, to make it make up for the delays. I’ve seen this kind of thing in project management before. Some part of a project slips so you ask for extra time and then the person in charge tries to make that something you can bargain about. Yes, we can put it out later, but we have to add ____ to mollify the publisher (or backers). And they guess that the thing they are adding won’t be that much of an increase, or it’ll affect unrelated parts of the team from the blocker or whatever. And they’re always wrong. Because the slipping happening in the first place means we’re not great at timing out tasks; we would we think we’re better now?

So 3.0 has grown in scope and in importance as a kind of Jesus patch that would fundamentally alter the game. Reward their patience. Backers bought this story and so did we. Backers because they wanted all their pipeline theories to be true. And we did because we keep telling ourselves that 3.0 might be the MVP that would let SC shut down refunds and maybe walk away.

But we’re getting none of that. After delays and delays, dropping the schedule entirely, and then a Burndown process that was horizontal or perhaps even upward trending, CIG have started cutting features from the patch entirely. As far as we can tell, the last two weeks of must fix bug counts dropping off are attributable to the features those bugs are attached to being cut out of the 3.0 patch. Whoever makes the game dev documentaries has Erin Roberts on film for all if us to enjoy as he gives up and asks the team to get the most basic thing out the door. The Jesus patch is long abandoned, and it’s looking more and more like 3.0 will feel like an incremental update accompanied by claims that under the hood it’s revolutionary.

Nearly a year of pain and suffering by the CIG people in the trenches to force out something that’s going to feel and awful lot like a monthly patch.

Where did that come from? Does he want Derek to get killed by a cop?

Oh yeah, every day they try to fantasize in as vague a way as possible about Derek turning into Guillotine Gorilla and getting murdered for all the weird crimes they think he's performed or think he will do because they think Derek spends all day building Star Citizen ships out of lego and then tipping them off a table. Even funnier are the ones that think that Chris and co are just waiting for Star Citizen to release before they'll sue or simply call the cops on Derek. I mean poo poo just look at them, sitting there with all the internet at their disposal and they still have no idea which Derek Smart in the universe did what so they just double down on their insane "everyone and everything is Derek Smart" defense.

I think they are desperately trying to get 3.0 shat out in some form before CitizenCon. If they dont they may as well cancel the show, because unless Mae Demming comes out of retirement they've got jack diddly poo poo all to show.

They will deliver half of 3.0 with the rest coming 'next week' and then quietly forget about it and start plugging 3.1.

It's so damn...literal.
I'm going to regret this.

Ok so here's the way I see it.

Chris Roberts is selling used cars. Some guy correctly assumes he's been ripped off and shows up at the dealership. Seeking revenge, he fires a ten inch nail out of a nail gun and hits Chris right in the back of the head.

Suddenly he realizes that he can make the best space sim ever and also that he now needs a toupee.

His divisive brain doesn't know what to do. Do we actually make this game or do we use our existing skillset as hustlers? His left side says yes, make the game, and do it all. His right says gently caress it, sell them the undercoating.

When he approaches his wife about his dilemma she lifts his toupee and drives the nail deeper into the left side of his brain.

“You promised me I'd be rich and famous,” she says. “You can't do that by making a video game.”
