My parents' old dog used to do that. They had these kitchen bar stools he was the perfect height for. If you were eating anything in the kitchen, within like 60 seconds you'd have a sad dog face on your lap. Edit: found an old picture!

Our trainer recommended putting a baby gate up in the hallway and throwing kibble or a small treat to him whenever he stopped barking. It took like 2 days and he got the idea, plus tired him out running after the thrown treats. Now he just sits patiently and waits for a bit of bacon off my breakfast plate.

Yeah it's fairly easy to train a dog to sit patiently and wait for a post-meal snack. Unless you just get a special dog and then well have fun.

I'd say most of the people in this thread are probably table-scrap givers. If you're wanting to eliminate begging completely maybe try the dog thread in PI (if you've got thick skin 'cause there's a few dicks over there)

I always grew up in a home that strictly disciplined begging. The idea being if you reward them for begging, they'll try it on guests as well, and guests might not be comfortable with that. I always felt bad about it but it was just the way it was.
