Cargo capacity, towing capacity. I'd like one, possibly LSx swapped just for more HP and probably better fuel mileage. Not that the LT1 is terrible. An LSA would be ridiculous.

The Olds Custom Cruiser never came with the LT1, so a swap is definitely a good idea.

Short term, yes, long term.... I don't keep cars long term. Manual swap is more expensive than the motor swap. Getting the VVTI 1JZ out of the JZX110 means I can keep the stock automatic and stock ECU. Automatic is stronger than the affordable manual boxes. What you guys just joining the Modern Classics zone? Early Toyota pickups with the 22-REs are $$$$ and the first gen 4Runners are now on their way, add in 'TURBO' and sweet gauges or decals and $$$$$$$. Imports from Japan are now including a whole bunch of ~Obviously 80s-esque~ Land Cruisers and Hilux Surfs (the name for the 4Runner in Japan). I wouldn't buy that one but it has more to do with him loving with it rather than leaving it alone and the condition second. 80s and 90s Japanese stuff are the newest classics.

At that price you could buy a crate 22RE from LCE with whatever compression pistons you want, put a turbo on it, drop it in any $300 Hilux with a W56 and save 3k and not have the least lovely of the slushboxes from that era.

I just think it's funny that people are nostalgic for things like this and pay so much money for them. Reminds me of this guy that met his hero, realized it was poo poo and then sold it (albeit still for a profit). His stuff is a good read, like a literary wheeler dealers episode. https://thegarage.jalopnik.com/here-s-exactly-what-it-cost-to-buy-and-rebuild-an-old-t-1795160777

That was a good read. Jalopnik occasionally has some great stuff. Is there a term yet for when a car develops a reputation for being fun, simple, and affordable, demand goes up, prices thus go through the roof, and then what made them good is totally lost because they are now too valuable to be beaten? AE86, E30, GC8, etc.

I remember the 55 being circled on my dad's old F-150. Yeah, had that with my 90 Escort. Four speed with a 1.9. It was dangerous to drive because it really couldn't get out of its own way. Also liked the shift light. Kicker was the drat thing would get 40+ MPG without even trying. I think I hit 56 MPG with a Chevy Sprint/Metro.

It’s the deadened groan of the dried-up door hinge. The faint scent of mildew that has been sun-dried over a thousand searing hot summer afternoons. The wavering screech of the seat belt warning buzzer when turning the key to the “ON” position. It’s all there and it makes you feel a sentimental bond with the vehicle.
