dissss posted:'Aussie' Ford/Holden buyers get weird about the rebadges and over the years there's been a hell of a lot of them. There's a trend of people replacing their Holden badges with Chevy ones. It's a tiny thing that really irritates me. The CRX with a Kompressor badge though was a hilarious sight when it used to get around my home town.

Neither did the cheap Raybestos ceramics that went on when I replaced those. Nor do the Carquest Gold ceramics that it currently wears. I guess the upside is I have factory alloys, so I can do a visual inspection easily. (also it needs rotors again... and the carquest pads are barely worn... this time it's getting only rotors)

I could see the outer pad and it had some meat on it, but when I got the tire off and looked at the inner pad I noticed it was almost out of material. I thought wear indicator squeals were supposed to make noise when you pressed the brakes, not when you were off the pedal. Anyways, I replaced the pads and the squealing went away after a few miles.

Are air brakes less common on large commercial vehicles in the upside down? Or was this just a medium size truck?

I mean a lot of people still ignore that too, but....

Terrible car stuff is the original owner of my 118i who decided to chuck in an extra £500 worth of extras, and instead of adding lumbar support and heated seats, opted to add 18" wheels instead. While they do indeed look extremely nice, they've increased the cost of replacement tyres by over 70%.

They've really come a long way.

I always thought here was a different metal in the pad itself that caused the squeal, not that little metal piece hanging off the back of the pads. I've done dozens of brake jobs

The thing is...once the tabs starts squeaking (which of course usually occurs during the worst possible time) for the average person the rotor will be toast by the time someone looks at it. But rotors are usually cheap for a daily commuter. Around here it is drat near impossible to get rotors turned and I'm at the point where it is a lost cause. You want pads to bed with a clean surface. As for uneven pad wear happens all the time. I've never really seen even pad wear. One is shot the other might have some life on it. Floating calipers do it as well. On my car, I was pleased they include an electronic wear sensor that pops open when burned through triggering a light. Those crazy Germans.

Those suicidal electronic brake pad sensors are pretty sweet and are a great idiot light. And fortunately they're only like $5 aftermarket or $20 OEM, and you only need one front and one rear, which is downright reasonable for the Germans.

The battery light indicates low voltage, both indicate no charging is happening. That usually means the alternator, though it could be a fusible link is burned out as well.

Terrible badge stuff... A younger me owned a couple of different Mustang Cobra's. I would get irrationally angry when I saw V6 Mustangs sporting SVT or Cobra badges, and for a while that was a really huge thing, so I was mad a lot. These days, I don't even look at badges unless something in particular draws my eye, or I'm just trying to figure out what a car is that I don't recognize.

Or death before wisdom which will probably be my case. I can't recall the last time I saw obvious badge mishaps around here. Probably the biggest mistake was done by GM. Slapping those stupid GM square things on the front fenders for a while during the Waggoner era.
