I dont really know where else to ask, so Im asking you guys.

I really like Pretty Lights remix of Pink Floyds "time" and I am wondering if there is a particular sub-genre of EDM I should be looking at to find more of the same?

I dont like any of the other work I have heard of Pretty Lights so yeah, not really sure where to start.
Have you heard the good word of The Glitch Mob, my friend?

They're working on a new album and Blade 2.0 now, too

edit: I just realized that I've been to New Year's shows for both Glitch Mob and Pretty Lights. Now those were some loving amazing ways to ring in a new year!

I suppose the remix Im trying to find similar of is very dubsteppy and I could just look for glitchy dubstep.

But I am enjoying love death and immortality more than drink the sea as "more of" the remix. Glitch mobs discog is now in my iTunes so I will be working through that. Thanks.

Someone else has suggested some mid-era infected mushroom too so I will check that out.

Infected Mushroom was traditional psytrance and then they became...uhh, less psytrance? Or poppy psytrance? I don't even know what you'd call what they became. I also don't know what their newer stuff sounds like, because I haven't listened to them since Legend of the Black Shawarma and that was apparently a few albums ago. I'd assume it sounds like the poppier psytrance stuff they made on that album because that seemed to be the direction they were heading in. Their evolution seemed to be similar to Pendulum's, who started out as just a drum n bass act but then evolved into kind of an electro rock act. (Then Pendulum turned into Knife Party :v: )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxov0BQ2fpE

They rule, but they aren't exactly performing at the same kinds of shows/festivals as a lot of other acts discussed in this thread, for the most part. Also most of their stuff is at higher BPMs than the majority of artists discussed in this thread.

I wish their fanbases crossed over with each other, but I can also see why they wouldn't.

I haven't listened to this song in like 10 years :corsair: but man it brings back memories of days when I was heavy into psytrance/trance/10 minutes songs.

Also I'm glad this thread exists. I like ODESZA's older stuff much more than their latest albums unfortunately - I really want to like it. I still enjoy one of their older remixes to this day:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaRsJvZgg2s

I'm not sure what I began to type below, but I'm going to ramble on beyond this point, so feel free to ignore me from here on out.

I tend to listen to music in cycles. I'll listen to nothing but a single genre for a while, then I'll hear a good "other genre" song, such as dubstep/trap/grunge/rock/x-synth/x-wave ("witch" is actually a p cool genre I recently discovered), and switch to that for some time, before eventually sliding back into whatever I was enjoying previously. Sometimes I switch for a couple days, othertimes I'll stick to listening to a different genre for months, and sometimes I never slide back into a genre. Case in point: I remember listening to trance music stations on https://www.di.fm for the longest time in high school. Funnily enough, one day they were playing some really weird-sounding music on the radio, but I ended up enjoying it for whatever reason. I wasn't sure what it was, so I checked their streaming schedule and it was grunge/grime/dubstep, which got me into those genres really hard - I haven't gone back to any type of trance since, including Infected Mushroom. I really enjoyed the immediate hard-hitting notes, random drops, and varying transitions. These genres ruined trance for me at that point. I no longer could stand waiting 3-4 minutes for a buildup, comedown, then another buildup over the course of 6-10 minute songs.

I've also always enjoyed heavy bass in any genre (rock, r&b, rap, metal, grunge, dubstep, etc.), so when Trap started to get huge a while back (like 2011/2012?) I dove into that for a solid year or two, before I moved on to something else. I can always dip my toes back in for a good dubstep/grime/trap song, but for the past couple years I've somehow ended up in alt/garage rock/punk/lo-fi stuff and not really enjoying trap/dubstep as much. Maybe it's just changing times since trap and dubstep seems to be mainstream everywhere now. Movie trailers? Sick wubz. TV Commercials? Nasty drops.

Anyways, that's my condensed story of why I like this thread

e: I have a YouTube playlist I've been adding to over the years, so why not take a trip down memory lane and post some music here.

Floss are certainly pioneers, but I've never really been impressed with them live. Curt continually stays mixing (not outstandingly) and Josh just yelled at people and waved a flag. I always figured Josh was some sort of studio/production wizard and just couldn't DJ worth anything.

Haven't heard from them much since the split, what's the show like with just Curt?

He stayed mixing most of the time but occasionally he'd run to the front of the stage and hype up the crowd. The crowd was going crazy for the entire set, though, so it's not like he even needed to, although I appreciated the effort. The lighting was crazy. Constant strobes, and I was in the front row so I was constantly getting hit with them :D

Oh man, I remember when Infected Mushroom started branching out. They always ended up in song packs I'd download for Stepmania, so my familiarity basically begins and ends with a handful of songs, but yeah, I got a pretty good idea of their evolution from what I downloaded. Their later songs felt like they took on a lot of glitch hop influences.
