The length is a valid point, just not so much as a complaint about the game itself. Rather, it's an answer to people who ask 'why can't we have more games like this?' Because it took a 7 year development cycle to make a 2 hour game. Like, I love the game's style, but its really not a sustainable business model.

It took 7 years to make because Microsoft made them remake the game. It was originally going to be purely a boss rush game. Then Microsoft became the publisher and made them turn it into a more traditional platformer.

as nice as cuphead looks and sounds, i'm gonna give an indie developer a lot of slack for putting a shitload of care and quality into their game. the first game i've ever really given serious thought towards buying the soundtrack -- i mean, i don't know if it's $100 nice for a four-disc vinyl release in faux-1930s packaging, but it's really nice. now if they do a game that takes that heinz edlemann/yellow submarine look and does some fun platform-y poo poo with it i'll buy a copy even if i don't have the console on which it's gonna run.
