Hey,

I've got a Tribal Supreme Court oral argument this Saturday (yeah on a weekend) that prepping for is draining me, and I have family coming into town Thursday through Sunday, so I won't get a post up until Monday or Tuesday next week.

To speed the fight up I'll likely pretend that the Lord has had a veil of darkness the whole time and have him teleport into combat with either Vincent or Corvax.

Okay, finally decompressed i think. My hope is to update tonight. Given how long this fight has been I'm weighing towards just finishing it narratively, but if you guys want your Necron Lord kill, I'll give you that catharsis.

Thankfully he'll be a lot easier to hit than the Lychguard, what without having a shield or power field. So maybe I won't finish it narratively.

He also hits a lot harder too, thanks to lightning attack.

Sorry; switched jobs in July and have been getting absolutely wrecked in terms of available time, and willingness to get a whole bunch of numbers together; I'll admit, combat's never been my draw to PBP. Anyway, I return from schedule-based exile to see what can be salvaged, here.

In terms of what I might be able to do to save my 4-year-old slowmarine, what did he and I roll? Just wondering if Legacy of Excess/Best Quality/etc might be able to let me add a DoS with an IP to maybe tie him for sure, or if I'll have to re-roll (if that can even save me). I would never have spent an IP on +10 before the fact without the benefit of hindsight (I never would have assumed a single hit would so thoroughly wreck me, heh), so I won't, but if I re-roll, I might as well use one on that. And the +1 DoS. Gonna lose it for good if he dies, anyway, and spending it on Wounds ablatively/pre-emptively seems a little against the intent of the rules.

I assume he can't be Beguiled, and that Size doesn't affect Feint.

Hey man, I know combat can be a drag, and I totally take the blame on this one by throwing four loving lychgard at you guys. I didn't think those power fields would proc as much as they would. Your slow marine is totally salvageable. Since he hit your torso, you actually didn't loose a limb or anything. it was energy so you technically got the crit where you would have burned to death, but I always thought a lot of the energy crits like that with power field weapons were dumb. So if you burn some infamy here to come back, you'll basically have a cool torso scar and a story to go with it.

I haven't been having them be beguiled because machine and from beyond both make them immune to mind effecting stuff, which is how I always took the beguiling gem to operate.

So Necon Lord rolled a 08, and his WS is 55, so his feint DoS was 6, one for passing, then 5 for 0-5 tens digit) You rolled somewhere in the 50s, so it was only 2 DoSas I only looked at your base WS. Anything you have that says it adds a bonus to WS, like Best quality, would count in your feint. Size does not, since it specifically counts it as a "to hit" modifier.

It is too early in the morning to do all the math on that, but if you can somehow squeeze four more DoS out if it and tie, then the tie would have gone to you, and your bogus 100+ parry would have blocked his fatal blow.

Just be glad he didn't lightning attack. That's right, he has loving lightning attack.

Welcome back man.

WS vs. Feint Re-Roll: 1d100 46

WS 60 + Best Quality Weapon 10 = TN 70
So one for passing, 3 for difference in tens digits for 4 initial DoS.
+1 DoS from Legacy of Excess, +1 DoS from spent fate point. 6, so we tie and he gets parried. Whew. At 3/7 IP.

Sure, cool, then you would have parried the Lord. For simplicity sake, I'll still say that one lychguard ran off since his boss can handle himself or something.

Hey Werix, did we ever determine if I could use purified plasma for my demonic gun? Because I just rolled hilariously and then even more so on the reroll.

No we did not. I'm inclined to say no since the benefits of a daemon weapon (unlimited ammo, extra damage and stuff) outweighs the benefits of being able to use specialist ammo.

I think it Is a good balancing thing. Imagine a daemon bolter that could shoot Tzeentch inferno shells.

If you want to use specialist ammo, elevate a non demonic weapon to legacy.

e: I'm going to house rule that we use the Dark Heresy 2 rules, where you take damage to the arm equal to the weapon's damage with zero pen, or can drop it.

If you drop it, and the daemon in the gun is not from the Gift of the Gods, it will cause a mastery test.

Upon further reflection, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I gotta drop the plasma gun this round due to overheat (thanks for houseruling that back in, Werix), but now I gotta spend this turn and next letting it cool down. Running into melee is suicide, and using one of my backup guns is dicey because you all are in melee and Corvax would have Words with me if I fired the multilaser into the group. Dach suggested charging the necron lord to give corvax a +10 ganging up bonus, but he could just feint+slaughter me, even if Corvax kills him on his turn.

I doubt the Lord is going to survive the round. The most at danger is Rebel getting hit by Guard 2 by not using the disengage action.

I vote we do another job for Draeven, Jayden, or the Great Master, just to get some more support. I'd like to secure the warrant for ourselves but figuring out how to avoid being squashed is the big question.

Also, Viva, you and me should probably look into that talent that lets you shoot into melee with no chance of hitting friendlies. Target selection I think it is, requires bs 50 and is a tier 3 unaligned.

Giving you folks some more time to do some more discussion on your next steps, especially since there looks to be some juicy arguments on Aethun to be had.

If the choice is to visit all three other than Aethun, I'll need a bit to think on the jobs all three would be asking you of next since each job will be different.

Can we at least get like a cost-benefit analysis on siding with the different princes, because I don't even know who any of these guys are.

Werix
Sep 13, 2012

#acolyte GM of 2013
It's mostly based on flavor, since each prince is aligned with a different God. So Draeven's missions will be more combat focussed, Aethun will have infiltration stuff, Jayden will be about grandiosity, and the Great Master will have missions typically involving biological warfare.

Aethun had you do that job helping that cultist get elected planetary president.

Draeven just had you fight Necrons.

Great Master had you go to Phyrr to get toxin ingredients.

Jayden had you wipe out the sole Sororitas convent in the Calaxis sector.

You also know that while the four princes are technically working together to invade the Calaxis sector, divisions are forming. Draeven and Jayden (Khorne and Slaanesh ) think they will be able to gather enough of an army and navy to conquer on their own. Meanwhile Aethun and Great Master (Tzeentch and Nurgle) think they can use G.M.'s plagues and toxins to destabilize worlds, allowing Aethun's forces to manipulate the chaos.

Each of them is powerful in their own right, and can use their influence to shield you to an extent. You can still play the field for the most part. If you go to Aethun he will try to exercise control over your heir meat puppet, securing his control over your ship. The other three you can still go back and forth on.

You get the impression that at some point this tension will turn into back stabbing/open hostilities, and if you stick with a prince long enough they will ask you to engage the forces of another, burning that bridge forever.

Essentially these guys are putting together a Black Crusade, and are seeing you and/or your ship as an important asset.

Hmm, I say we play the middle a bit longer, minus Aethun for obvious reasons and see what we can get out of it. Corvax's plan of going it alone is tempting but I'd rather not be on a daemon prince's shitlist if we're not also ones too.

Since we just finished a very combat heavy mission, I think we should consider doing one of the more infiltration oriented missions. It's definitely not in character for Vincent to say so, but as a player that's my vote.

Yeah, let's steer away from combat for a while.

Jayden sounds the most interesting, if we're not going it alone.

Werix

I had originally planned on each of the next three being sorta combat focused, but i could certainly tweak Jayden's mission to be more of a social engineering/heist caper style mission. My original plan is you would be arriving at the rival Pirate Prince's place when it was attacked, and try to fight your way to the McGuffin, but instead I can have you arrive before the attack, and you try to bluff, charm, sneak, and stab your way past the security to the mystery item. I can even put it on a timer, with Jayden telling you when the attack will occur, and you having to get the thing before it does.

Octuv and Rebel and form an electro-synth duo to put on a performance to distract everyone.
