It's too bad Machida and Anderson never fought. Two of the best strikers and innovators of the time feinting and circling each other for 25 minutes would have been cool to see.

LW has never had anything close to a dominant champion and if you're trying to come up with a best ever LW champ it probably wouldn't be Frankie. I dunno that I'd call Cruz a dominant champion, he defended four times in his first reign and one in his second, but maybe I'm splitting hairs. His defenses were mostly fairl close decisions, not blowouts like all the other dominant champs had. Keven is unironically right, Fedor is the closest thing to a dominant champ HW has ever had had, since he has three defenses.
|
# ? Oct 12, 2017 06:24 |
Lol I didn't even see that he had frankie edgar, loser of 6 straight title fights against 3 opponents, as the most dominant light weight champ of all time.

No one has dominated HW really - you'd argue Fedor but his reluctance to fight somewhere with drug testing makes me wary of his claims. LW absolutely no one has - Frankie defended three times, equal with BJ and Bendo, and I'm pretty sure if you search your heart, you'll find that Bendo was actually Never Good. Bantam I'd argue hasn't been around long enough for anyone to make a claim of "dominating" the division.

Fat Twitter Man posted:I'm busting my brain trying to think how Penn or Shogun could have had better careers. Penn's biggest problem was lack of competition at 145/155 which made him do things like fight at heavyweight. Shogun even came back to win the UFC title after getting written off as washed up. The only thing there is to say about those guys is that they peaked really young. That's what made Penn awesome and why he's got a stronger legacy and aura than the goat MM lol He coulda had double digit defenses against Asian and midwestern cans but instead pleaded with dana to fight Andre arlovski to prove he was the single baddest man on the planet and left to chase glory. He was the champ we needed but not the one we deserved

Shogun could have had a better career if he was blessed with knees that exist.

loving that frankie two times cleared out the LW division. His championship reign included one rematch against an outclassed BJ Penn, a draw against the only guy who had ever beat him, and then finally beating Grey Maynard. His championship run was 4 fights that were all rematches and he won 3 of them then he lost to Benson twice. Frankie is only ever the LW goat if you're from NJ. BJ, Bendo, and Frankie all have three title defenses, but one of Frankie's was a draw. So I guess BJ is the most dominant ever LW champion.
|
# ? Oct 12, 2017 14:31 |

Incorrect. Frankie has two title defenses and one title retention. Like DC didn't defend against bones even though he's still champ. He just retained the title because JBJ can't stay off the juice.
