Question about Invisible Inc. I just finished the game on Beginner difficulty, and I'm rather annoyed with the result. I hate basically playing the game over only this time it's a little more difficult. All the progress I made is lost. Can you tell me 1: what is different about experienced vs. beginner mode, 2: is this just a rotating roguelike with the only added benefit being unlocked agents, 3: does the story develop any further by different difficulties or will I simply have to beat the game on Expert to get the true ending? I had great fun with this game for many hours, and I think what happens next is meant to be kind of enigmatic, but if what I have to expect is simply more of the same, I may not be interested in continuing.

Whoa, really? Wow, what a let down! I mean, this game has been so solid and this whole thing just felt like such an awesome preamble. I love a late title card, and when it showed up, I was thinking, alright now we're down with the tutorial, onto the good stuff. But the rest of the game is just the tutorial but harder? And harder again? And harder again? And ultimately there isn't even a different ending? Sigh. I really love this game, but it's been a long time since I've felt such a sudden full-stop of inertia. I feel like Lois Lane being plowed into by Superman.

Not really a "before I play", but kinda close: Of the Armored Core games available on the Vita, which are worth playing? The same goes for the * Warriors series - what's a good jumping off point if I've never played one before and am not really tied to the settings?

Foxhound posted:Anything for Bravely Second? I finished the first game. When it comes to getting old jobs from the first game, the game makes it so that you have to choose between two at a time and locks you out of the one you don't choose. However in due time you will be able to go back and get the one you missed; just keep this in mind while you pick the set(s) the first time.

Any stuff I should know about Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen? I'm up to what I imagine is the second part after meeting the duke. Any tips/pointers I should know now that I'm here? Currently a fighter which I feel is a good all rounder class that I'm enjoying. Also have a lil' dwarf Ranger. I don't imagine there's many, but any recommended mods for PC aswell? Cheers.

http://www.beforeiplay.com/index.php?title=Dragon%27s_Dogma Pretty sure it covers everything relevant to Before I Play. Though I note it doesn't say the "If you want to not miss anything, you'll probably need a guide. So either accept missing things or risk spoiling yourself" type tip which I feel is pretty important. More in-depth stuff is best for the Dragon's Dogma thread in Games I would have thought?

It's not a lot, but the wiki claims that there are xp bonuses/penalties for using pawns not of the same level as you. If I remember right it's 1% bonus for every level lower than you, up to a maximum of 25%. Same with penalties in the other direction. The xp obviously won't make or break your playthrough, but it's nice to know all the same.

Now that I know that, I'll definitely dial it down a lil.

I used one of the steam walkthroughs for dragon's dogma. The top rated one has everything in spoilers and "finish this quest before act 2 begins when you do X" warnings because the game is separated into several parts and leaves quests dangling.

Found this out the hard way.... Ended up missing out on a whole bunch of escort quests that I was gonna do a lil bit after a few main quests but they're all gone now. Also hurt me deep knowing I could've done em' real easy because apparently you can just portcrystal to locations they wanna go to.

Guavatin posted:Any stuff I should know about Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen? I talk about this game a lot. Have a long rear end post: - Character size does not matter that much - Min-maxing does not change that much - Saves are manual. Checkpoint Saves happen every time you rest. Manually save often or risk frustration! - There are a few kinds of quests; ones you pick up from Notice Boards are different from Main and Side Quests, which you usually get from NPCs. Notice Board Quests are ones you can do passively and anything you do while you have them will count towards them. A lot of Notice Board quests have dubiously useful rewards, but some grant you powerful or expensive weapons and gear just for playing normally, so it's worth picking them up when they're available. - Main Quests have a tendency to move the plot forward and can cancel lingering Side Quests. Make sure you've done all the side stuff you want before moving the plot forward. - You can switch Vocations (classes) either in Gran Soren or in Bitterblack Isle. You need to be lvl10 to start switching. Regular and Advanced classes cost 1000 DCP (job experience used to buy skills) to switch into, while Hybrid classes cost 1500. Once you've paid, you can switch back all you like for free. - Every class plays differently! Try them all! - Weapon skills are often shared between classes that use the same weapon, but some special ones are limited to one class. When highlighting the skill in the skill-picking menu, a class's icon will show up in the corner if it's exclusive. - Core weapon skills work the same way, but are used by every class that uses that weapon. Core skills are usually either improved basic attacks or mobility-related. For instance, all dagger users can double-jump once you've learned it, and all staff users can learn to hover. - Augments (passive skills) are unlocked for the character once you've bought it no matter what class you are. Most classes have at least one or two augments that are worth looking at, making experimenting with new classes a very good idea. Attack-boosting, defense-boosting, stamina-saving, and load-increasing augments are the most popular for excellent reasons. - While you can technically go in near the very beginning of the game and speed-loot the place, BBI becomes reasonable around lvl.50. - Keep your gear up-to-date. If you need to prioritize your cash: new weapons > new armor > upgrading weapons > upgrading armor. Upgrading your stuff is more important than upgrading your pawn's, but you should still get around to it eventually. - Hiring pawns leveled lower than you (or not hiring extra pawns at all) grants a bonus to EXP/DCP earned and has the added bonus of being free. Hiring higher-leveled pawns has the opposite effect and can get very expensive, but can be a good investment if you're hitting a rough patch. The "Beloved" system is kind of tricky, but not essential to understand to play the game. Basically, whomever likes you the most by the end of the main plot is your beloved and gets nabbed by the dragon to be held hostage until you kill the fucker... or not. If two people like you equally the most, whoever you last talked to will be the one the game picks. You can game the system if you'd like by singling out merchants that are hard to track down or would otherwise disappear from the game (since your beloved moves in to your house in Cassardis and never leaves) but most of the time you're going to end up with the princess lady or probably the innkeeper or something, and that's fine. Also not exactly need-to-know, but: When you get to Gran Soren there will likely be a quest up on the board from Reynard to escort him to Greatwall Encampment. This will definitely test the HELL out your mettle. You will do a lot of running and dying, but it's essential Dragon's Dogma and I'd recommend it after doing the Pawn Guild and grabbing the quest to find Salomet's Grimoire. There are two quests that can be easily hosed up at the beginning and lock you out of a good chunk of content: - Lost and Found: Find Quina in the woods before doing the Pawn Guild quest in Gran Soren. Otherwise she will die and you'll be locked out of all Quina and Selene the witch-related content. - Chasing Shadows: Get the quest to tail the Night's Champion right after the Pawn Guild quest and don't get too close. If you do, you'll lose a major merchant and her whole storyline. There are more stage-sensitive quests but none are as substantial as those two. If you mess these up and are filled with regret, you can move to a new NG cycle by switching to Hard Mode and then back to Normal/Easy Mode. This will reset all the quests and put you back in Cassardis with everything else left as it was.

Out of curiosity in Dark Arisen, when does the game expect you to tackle the expansion? I seem to recall having issues with it even post game, but it's been awhile. I might try the PS4 version eventually.

It starts with creatures doable at level 30(?) which is around half way through the game but the drops are absurdly strong for that level. It fairly quickly ramps up to post-game content. I honestly went there to unlock the different specs at level 10, went back at I think around 40, got through a bit, died, then went at the end of the game but got quickly bored and just uninstalled.

Leavemywife posted:Just grabbed The Evil Within for the PS4. Anything I should know? Keep all your guns fairly evenly upgraded since the ammo for each one is so limited. You can burn multiple enemies with one match if you can get them on the ground touching. Try and group a few together in a bottleneck and take their knees out with the shotgun.

Leavemywife posted:Just grabbed The Evil Within for the PS4. Anything I should know? You do not need to burn enemies to prevent them from returning to life. I mention this because ice seen it mentioned a few times in the thread for the sequel, but unlike Resident Evil you don't need to burn the bodies. Burning enemies is an instant kill and is useful to kill groups that are on top of one another, enemies playing dead, and larger enemies that would normally take a lot of ammo. Upgrade your harpoon bolts when you get them. They are cheap to make and when upgraded to the max do a bunch of damage and light enemies on fire. Even at level 3 or 4 they can kill mini bosses with just a few shots.

Leavemywife posted:Just grabbed The Evil Within for the PS4. Anything I should know? Following up on Pneub, Evil Within also uses an adaptive loot system- it tries to give you ammo for whatever you're running low on. As they say, this means try to use your weapons roughly evenly. You will almost certainly not be able to find all keys or map parts on your first or third playthrough, many of them are super obscure. Similarly, you will not be able to upgrade everything on a playthrough. Upgrades can be carried to future playthroughs. Although even upgrades are generally the way to go, priority upgrades are to "stock", which will let you carry more ammo, and stamina. Melee is usually not worthwhile. You will get a sort of crossbow in the game; the maximum upgrade for the "harpoon bolt" is uniquely extremely useful and worth pursuing.
