Anneke is 10/10 flawless but I wasn’t feeling the music video single they put out. The music was dull. But I guess anything feels uninteresting compared to a Devin Townsend project. I’ll have to give the full album a shot and see if it clicks.

The album's pretty good, but I do agree that the instruments are a little boring. It's very Devin Townsend-y, but not quite as good. Anneke's doing the best leading vocals of her career, IMO.

doom at work is a good choice no matter what the weather, it's the best kind of background noise for getting poo poo done. I've got some 40 Watt Sun going right now. I've probably listened to Windhand more than any other person alive just because it's perfect for the office.

It’s gotten so much hype and I respect the ambition, but like most funeral doom it didn’t make much of an impact on me. Album art of the year hands down though.

I'm about a quarter into it and really digging it. When I'm in a particularly introspective mood funeral doom does it for me. It's also a dreary cold day which helps.

That bass sound is loving nice.

On the exact opposite end of the metal spectrum, the new Keldian album is out now, and while the first single was merely okay, the album has some insanely good poo poo on it.

That Chaosbringer is good enough that I immediately checked for vinyl and the Immersion in Darkness LPis $20 shipped to the US which isn't bad but then I see that it's three songs, one of which is an under two minute nunslaughter track. Too bad Turn Into Ruins is cassette only apparently.

I have to admit to being lukewarm on the whole thing.

The songwriting on their first album is spectacular and it's what made them awesome. Each section transitioned naturally into the next to the point where you didn't really notice the structure of the song (not there really was much of a structure). This feels like a collection of good bits rather than full songs. Best example is the solos. There's a lot of telegraphed solo sections in Urn, but on their first album, the solos felt like they were a part of the composition, not just a show-off bit. Again, the solos are great, but the whole thing is starting to feel...almost generic?

Clean vocalist needs to turn it down a bit. There's more melodrama in his voice than a Wintersun song.

I pretty much agree to be honest. I still like the second half of the album, but if this was the first thing I'd heard from them I wouldn't have been excited to check out more. Absolutely their weakest, but probably still worth a listen if you're a fan.

He died for your sins...
Accidentally posted this in the Black Metal thread instead of here, so here you go.

Apparently this album was released end of July digitally, but I only found out about it because I got a promo email from the label that is releasing the CD.

A Pale December is some loving fantastic atmospheric/post black metal. I'd say if you're a fan of Harakiri for the Sky, a slightly less medieval Obsequiae, maybe even a little Agalloch, ( and the more I listen, some Alcest ) this will be right up your alley. Lots of melody, airy ambient stringed instrument interludes and synths, a really beautiful, depressing, harsh kind of vibe. The production is fantastic too, the drums in particular sound amazing and I normally don't give a poo poo about drums really as long as they're there.

A lot of the songs have a real sense of building up and intensifying before dropping to a lull then picking back up again along with a variety of quick time-signature adjustments sprinkled throughout, it's a very satisfying listen.

Favourite track - The Path of Stars: https://apaledecember.bandcamp.com/...e-path-of-stars

But honestly every song is its own treasure.
