OutTV is good if you're in Canada, and like $4 a month, or there's the Brazilian Twink if you're desperate.

WOW that was an incredible premier. Holy poo poo I'm so amped. These queens are not loving around with the Drama. Was happy to see Gage from Face Off (what a hottie) and disappointed in tranqed up William's transphobic rear end. This might have been filmed before the gross Germaine Greer poo poo but GIRL. YOU ARE PHONING IT IN. She really pisses me off and I used to be ride or die for her. On a positive note, the Boulet brothers are WAY more charismatic and having much more fun,and the bump in production value is an excellent change. That elimination was, OOF. I'm glad it was Felony, I'm way more interested in the other two. I really loved Abhora's rat look from the promo but the drama with Bitch Pudding (holy poo poo so much drama) is a little confusing. Abhora's runway was excellent and I thought Victoria should have won. Monikkie's beef with James sounds hosed, and I'm way more inclined to believe Monikkie from the way James was acting.

Yay! I'm so excited for a show I only learned the existence of last week! The Boulet Brothers' delivery is already way better. Israel still exists and is pretty. Jeez it's been fifteen minutes and there's more drama than the entire first season.

Probably better to watch it before going into s2, I could imagine the quality difference being a huge turn off if you're going back after seeing the shiny new world of wonder version. I'm watching, or I guess trying to watch, the s1 reunion episode but holy gently caress this host is annoying. His yes gawd mawma okhrrrrr feels particularly like a grating affectation. Like Laganja turned up to 300. Does he always do this? E: wow it seems like he's just actively code switching into this weird voice, only when he talks to the black queen. This feels really weird. maybe this is a controversial opinion but I thought Willam was about where she needed to be in the Dragula premiere yeah she said some stupid, transphobic poo poo but if you've ever been to a Willam performance she's an absolutely dominant and very professional personality this is the Boulet Brothers' show, if you had any more Willam it would steal it from them. Willam seems stoned and dgaf which is fine, let the Boulets have a bit of the stage. Willam completely drowns out Gage as-is, why do you want more from her when the Boulet Brothers are barely interesting on their own (though much improved from S1)

Would it be safe to assume that any queens who compete on Dragula are probably not going to be allowed to compete on Drag Race, given that they're sort of competition? I can kind of see Ru saying, "Look, if I thought you were ready to be on Drag Race, you'd be on Drag Race. Instead you shot your wad early and went on Dragula. Sashay away."
|
# ? Nov 2, 2017 05:31 |

Ru would be a fool not to invite someone on the show. All drag matters.

I think it's less they couldn't compete after being on Dragula, and more that aesthetic hasn't really cropped up on Drag Race yet. The spookiest queen we've had was Sharon years ago, and there hasn't really been another one yet.

CHiRAL posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSKS8YK3gpM Well gently caress, thanks for posting this. This is logically one of the better responses to something like this I've ever seen. It's still kind of crazy that you can be as active as Willam is and not know this stuff but you can tell she's really trying to be better. I clearly need to be a bit better about followup with this sort of thing instead of just discounting them outright. Thanks again CHiRAL, sorry Willam I still think she kind of seemed like she didn't want to be there, and not in a fun way. Guess I'll just have to give it a re-watch and see if I still feel a way about it.

Willam says and does some ignorant poo poo, but he owns it and tries to move forward from it when his shtick either goes too far, or he honestly needs more education. He's a smart fish.

What an excellent response. I'm rather surprised by the whole thing, because Willam has always come off as very smart, and has been doing drag for close to 20 years, so I can't wrap my head around the fact that these are things that Willam simply didn't understand. But, this is how you educate people. Courtney who is genderqueer, and Stacy Lane who is trans, showed incredible patience and understanding for Willam. Sometimes blowing up at someone and calling them horrible monsters for saying something ignorant isn't the best way to get through to them.

Sometimes blowing up at someone and calling them horrible monsters for saying something ignorant isn't the best way to get through to them. In Willam’s case he has several friends and fellow entertainers who know him well, care about him, thus are far more inclined and glad to help educate him. The “blowing up” and shunning isn’t quite so surprising when it’s from randoms, especially for a public figure on the internet. Reminds me of how folks are encouraged to confront their family and friends on racism, bigotry, transphobia, etc. because there’s a greater likelihood of understanding and discussion when it’s someone you care about saying “hey, this is really hurtful and here’s why.” I’m not surprised there’s a lack of education among drag queens because by and large most are still gay cismen who still tend to dominate LGBTQ overall and aren’t always as willing to learn from their mistakes as Willam is. Learning about “hyper queen” was cool too, the “bio queen” term always made me feel uncomfortable and I couldn’t nail down why.

The pacing of the first half of that episode was way too quick, once it got to the sex toys and man on the street segment the back half slowed down nicely. I liked it a lot, though! Just hope they cut down on the transitionals/let the material breathe a bit in future episodes. Hopefully they're still editing the season.

Disasterina has a video explaining their entire look for the first Dragula challenge. I liked it since I feel like they didn't give a super good view of any of the queens. She seems super sweet, hope we get to see more of her on the show. Probably for pussy-rear end in a top hat face prosthetic, among other things. I just started watching Dragula season 1 and, I dunno, I'm not enjoying it that much, after 2 episodes. There have been a couple amazing looks from Vander Von Odd and everyone else has been kinda forgettable so far. She seems to be miles ahead of everyone in makeup skills and general execution of a look. The Boulet Brothers have cool looks, but every time they are on screen they are so mechanical and boring. They seem to take themselves way too seriously and don't seem like they're having fun. The sound editing is pretty awful as well. I also am really not a fan of the so-called "challenges" they have given to the queens in the bottom. Watching someone have bugs put on them is not entertaining to me and doesn't have anything to do with their talent.

Maybe try the season 2 premiere if season 1 isn't working for you. The production values are amped up and the Boulet Brothers seem a little more personable as hosts than in 1. Also Willam guest judges so that's fun. fwiw I honestly think being wooden as gently caress is part of the Boulet's schtick. e: tho the gross/shock exterminations for the bottom 3 are still there. They do a bunch of surface piercings with various gauges.
