Hey, maybe you would like to make a THANKSGIVING DIORAMA? If so, here's a thread for discussing it, showing pictures of your work in progress, or saying "dioRAMA" in a totally valley girl accent.

Q: I'm not American or Canadian. What is Thanksgiving?
A: Thanksgiving is a holiday that theoretically celebrates early English colonists and Native Americans coming together to eat a big-rear end feast without anyone getting genocided or dying of smallpox or getting trapped in a wormhole by an extradimensional being known as CROATOAN.

Q: How is Thanksgiving celebrated?
A: People gather together to eat food, get drunk, reopen old family grudges, watch football, and yell at each other about politics.

Q: I'm not American. When is Thanksgiving?
A: The fourth Thursday of November. A little too close to Christmas, if you ask me.

Q: What is a diorama?
A: A diorama is a three-dimensional model of a scene. Like if you go to the natural history museum and they have a scene of African grasslands with some life-size statues of cavemen hunting a life-size statue of a gazelle, that's a diorama. If, on the other hand, the scene, the cavemen, and the gazelle were all teeny tiny, that would still be a diorama. Mind blown yet?

Q: So is a lego city a diorama?
A: Yeah, sure, whatever. I don't care.

Q: So you want us to make a diorama about thanksgiving?
A: Specifically, I want you to make a diorama of the tiny, non-life-size variety, preferably in a shoebox or other similarly small box. Here's a link with pictures of some different shoebox dioramae: http://www.guidepatterns.com/how-to-make-a-shoebox-diorama-ideas.php

Q: Why should I do this?
A: I don't know. Maybe it will be fun?

Q: Does the diorama need to be about Thanksgiving?
A: Not really. Maybe just throw a turkey in there. It can be whatever. I just want to see some dioramas.

Q: Why?
A: Please don't ask. Just know: I need this. I need the dioramas.

Ideas for dioramas to get you started:

* A bunch of vikings getting eaten by lions.
* A giant boot crushing a bunch of native americans.
* A gang of cowboys getting kicked to death by a wild horse
(nb: the three thanksgiving day football games are Vikings v. Lions, Giants v. R*******s, Cowboys v. Chargers)
* A family of turkeys sitting around and eating a guy.
* A cornucopia (horn of plenty) spewing a bunch of garbage all over everything
* A solitary person sitting alone in a dark basement with a microwave turkey dinner looking at a computer. BYOB is on the computer.

Great minds think alike.

Great minds think like great minds thinking alike.

y'all, it's in the execution, not the concept. I think you should go ahead. Like, imagine if Rodin was like "Someone already had the idea for a naked woman statue." Then we wouldn't have his really sexy naked women statues and that would be a shame. Or imagine if Maurizio Cattelan had said "Marcel Duchamp already put a bathroom fixture in a museum" then we wouldn't have a solid gold toilet named America that people are encouraged to actually use.

Another day in paradise.

Roanoke:a bunch of colonists decide to peace out and go live with the natives. Years later some 'explorers' 'discover' a tribe of oddly light skinned blue eyed people who already speak English.

I'm glad I chose to do my diaroama in an empty beer case box because in order to bring my creative idea to fruition I will need it to be very spacious. I ask that I please be excused from the rule that the diorama has to be in a shoebox or smaller, because otherwise I will not be able to pull my mad, beautiful, wonderful idea off that I want to bring to life and share with you.

I would truly give thanks, for this exception.

Giving thanks,

The diorama can be any size as long as it is SMALLER than life size.

cda

by Hand Knit
Or it can be larger than life size too. That would be cool. Just not life size.

cda

by Hand Knit
Unless you've got a good idea for a life size diorama, in which case, who am I to tell you no?

cda

by Hand Knit
But please don't wallpaper your dining room with shoe box cardboard and then get your friends together and pretend to be wax figures in life size diorama depicting a Thanksgiving scene, because... Actually, I can't think of any reason not to do that. But don't tell us you're real people. Let us think you are wax.

cda

by Hand Knit
You can tell us you were real people later, after a suitable "gotcha" period. Or you can tell us immediately. There are benefits to both approaches.

cda

by Hand Knit
MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THE RULES.
