I'll add them to the second post as time goes on.

I'd be interested in figuring out why it works for some but not others. Maybe we could collate some information?

Thus far, I've been able to grab (almost) everyone's off my monitor just fine, using my OG 3DS's camera. In case it matters, the monitor runs at 1600x900 at 60Hz.

Mine works on my surface laptop when I blow the images up to 300% in my browser (so about 3.5 inches). It's weird that they're so finicky though since the point of QR codes is that they can read fast on a crappy camera. But it was worth the trouble to stop Conrad from popping up everywhere in my game

is clinch+leading blow pug as much of a massive point sink to get off the ground as it looks like or can I spec into it sometime before level 50 and still get some effectiveness out of it

because right now it seems like max double punch+max status up is the most reliable way to bind specific limbs before he becomes an overexertion bot for the rest of my party

Basically if you add clinch in it becomes even more of massive point sink.

For a perfect leading blow, you need leading blow, your three basic bind skills and corkscrew maxed for maximum damage. But it just depends on what you want from your pugalist. Overexertion essentially doubles your damage output, and binds completely lock down the enemy.

You can just manually count the skill points, but unless you're willing to give up double punch / status attack up, leading blow will be a postgame thing.

I maxed out corkscrew last by the way.

I had leading blow at 1 point for a good while early game, but I should add I never got double punch. The ailment / binding items with status attack up, the miasma that lowers ail bind resistance and black mist were better. Of course this depends entirely on your party composition.

Mana guard + head binds for first form.

Line guard + leg binds for when it changes forms. Or head binds too because eternal lament uses head? Maybe.

Equip everyone with bat earrings.

There is a way to score a preempt on dragon, please check Ragnar's lp for details because it is hard to explain.

Bat earring will save you

"Carbons? Purge? What are you talking about?!"

The hell, did EO V really just come out? I bought it on the eShop Thursday on a whim after not playing an EO since like one floor of the first game and twenty or so hours of P:Q. Currently running:

Fencer/Harbinger
Warlock(I think?)/Rover/Herbalist

A couple of dumb questions:
-How often should I expect to rest/retire/whatever characters and swap them out? Or is it better to just use a party the whole way through?
-Do the increasing Inn costs ever become a problem? I'm worried about boning myself by playing conservatively instead of pushing the limits every time I go to the dungeon.
-How many floors are there (or is that a spoiler? Never gotten far enough in one of these to know)?

my comp is DB Harb/Impact pug/Barrage pug/Cannon Dragoon/Poisoner botanist

double punch+status attack up is just a temporary patch i've been using since I didn't have the points for clinch AND punches AND overexertion AND status up

honestly the barrage pug doesnt even need to start contributing damage (outside of buffs) at this point as long as i hit the binds so I'll probably just rest into max clinch+status up+level 5 punches+level 5 overexertion

Either level 4 overexertion, level 9 overexertion or level 10 overexertion.

No need to pay extra HP cost.

Also that plan sounds fine and you can work your way towards leading blow slowly.

having it at level 5 hasnt been too bad since it helps my other pug get into fortitude range and the hp penalty has yet to be a problem since I'm only spamming it after i've locked my target down

1. Really depends on how you feel or if you need to try a new strat. Resting really isn't a big deal. There's also an XP share accessory in a hidden spot on the 3rd floor and some items that level a character up to 20 you get after the second boss. I really like to swap out party members and play with different comps but most people settle on a particular core group eventually. Some classes (harbinger and shaman mainly) are pretty thirsty for skill points so some people swap them into their parties later on, and some parties are only really going to work when the specialisations get unlocked. There's some bosses in the postgame you might want to change your setup for. Just do what you feel like and keep that memory conch on somebody.

2. Inn costs are never really a big deal, if it's an issue go clown on an early floor and sell bits. The costs of everything else can get annoying though.

3. There's 6 stratums (layers) with 5 floors each, one layer is postgame stuff though.

Okay then.

Your plan sounds good, because you have two other damage dealer (three if you count buster cannon), so leaving your barrage pugalist as support till you gain enough points for a good lead blow combo is fine.

Good luck.

Rangpur
Dec 31, 2008

Ur-Devil exists to generate bragging rights for those players willing to dive deep into the mechanics and come up with ways to exploit them. It's kind of bullshit by design, is what I'm saying. It can be beaten legit, much like the Abyssal God, but requires so much grinding and prep work, and so much RNG manipulation (if not outright luck) that I'm not sure why anyone would bother.

In the Untold 2 LP, Dr. Fetus did an update about fighting it with the story mode party in their base classes. It involved getting everyone to level 99, retiring them for the maximum stat/skill point boost then grinding them back to 99; equipping nearly everyone Dragonslayers for more stat boosts; using the armor you get from a DLC quest; and of course manipulating the grimoire stones to get the skills you want. There are still multiple failure states, and avoiding them is down to RNG.

My postillion has been struck by lightning.
Compared to Abyssal God, taking on Ur-Devil "legitimately" isn't really that bad if you know its pattern, it's just an obnoxiously long fight.

You're not gonna learn its pattern without either massive amounts of trial and error or looking at a guide, though.

I picked up EO5 a week or so ago, and I've been thoroughly enjoying it. One question though: how good would a Shaman build focused around damage be? I'm looking at the numbers for some of the Master skills, and it seems like you could pull out some pretty big hits if you set it up right. Plus the healing values for the other Mastery seem to be kind of weak compared to running a Botanist.

I'm more than pleased with my Punisher Shaman. He deals damage on par with or better than my Warlock (not counting Altar, and somewhat dependent on Ancient Memory procs), and I just realized a few minutes ago that I hadn't updated his weapons in ~2 strata.

Batigh
Dec 21, 2009
Back in the last thread, I mentioned I planned to stick a party of 4 Rovers and 1 Warlock into the oven and let them bake via Memory Conch, with plans to test out Ground Patrol (Hound skill that occasionally finds gather-point materials). Today, I pulled them out, and am able to share some not-all-that-rigorously-tested findings.

As a baseline, my main party includes a hound rover, and has had one point in Ground Patrol since the start of the 3rd stratum. I usually get two or three procs per long trip; each proc gets me 1-2 materials from the stratum I'm in, with a very small chance of those materials being rare. Worth the point? The more I think about it, the more 'eh' my reaction is, so probably not.

I started today's experiment by maxing Ground Patrol on each Rover in the party, maxing the Hound itself on one of them, and maxing Invisibility and Levitation on the Warlock. I made all of them Earthlain, so that they could supplement the pupper's findings with stuff from any gathering point. I further specialized each character with some sort of combat role (healing, debuffing, damage, etc), but that isn't particularly relevant, especially considering I sent them naked and shivering into the depths of the 6th stratum.

I wandered the 29th floor for about two in-game days, keeping Invisibility and Levitation active. (As an aside, it's worth noting that even a max-rank Invisibility won't completely prevent encounters, so make sure not to stray too far from stairs if you're not patrolling a boss room). The number of procs I got on Ground Patrol seemed normal compared to my one-man one-point main party Rover... but when the procs happened, I would get 10-15 materials each time. Rare materials may be more heavily weighted with more points in Ground Patrol; one proc in this excursion had 5 rare materials, and might've been more if my inventory hadn't been filled to capacity.

Next, I benched all but one Rover and the Warlock, and marched the two hapless fellows back up to the 29th floor. This meant I had just one Rover with 10 points in Ground Patrol. I kept them there for about the same amount of time, and got a similar number of procs on Ground Patrol, but this time each proc was only worth 1-5 materials.

In summary, if a 'gathering party' is your thing, 4+ Rovers definitely seems the way to go. A party of 5 Rovers would get the most materials if left to their own devices in a boss room, but I recommend including a warlock in there if you're keen to gather on strata that haven't been fully explored.

(The reason I sent them to 29F is simply because that's as high as I can go right now, and also because I was getting annoyed at a lack of rare mining drops for a quest)

EDIT: After a few more runs with 4 Rovers + 1 Warlock, Ground Patrol procs with 40 combined points in it have a max of 25 mats per gather and a minimum of... 1. Luck is ever-present, I suppose.

Everyone's a winner, but in my opinion:

I absolutely love dodge tanks, but they're a but difficult to use and line wide and party wide attacks are still an issue. They're great though, definitely one of my favourite classes.

The four sword blade dancer dies to everything. They also kill stuff and need zero setup for what's easily 1000 damage per turn, but they're so delicate. Because they wear no armor.

Overexertion maxed is double damage and it is so good. So very amazing.

The impact pugalist has a... skill set, I guess, but are known for putting out insane numbers.

Every class has its uses, some are definitely harder to use than others.

Chain killer is great. Harbingers are great.
