That doesn't strike me as a particularly good choice for a first car.

It's glorious. It needs to be pampered as a third or fourth car by someone who knows how to maintain it.

How many other first cars can you think of that would force you to learn both wrenching AND electronics? (Lagonda? That's all I got.)

The heater core going out on my '84 Volvo would like to have a word with you. I learned all about wrenching and electronics on that bitch. Mostly that you don't have turn signals if you take apart the dash and remove the hazard button.

I would also like to add that a good first car should teach you about hand signals and yelling out your windows as loud as possible that you're making a left turn.

e; also a good touch is to have your best friend sitting on the passenger door window sill gesticulating madly about your intentions

drat that's fancy for 80's car phone technology.
in '88 or '89 i had a friend in high school with a mid 80's caprice estate wagon (the silver bullet) that had a motorola mobile phone unit installed that you plugged your own phone into so he had a full size home rotary dial phone in the car.
of course we all thought it was the poo poo

The Mark VII was the first American manufactured vehicle to be equipped with a replaceable bulb headlamp system. Ford had petitioned NHTSA for a rule change permitting replaceable bulb headlamp systems, which was enacted in the summer of 1983 in time for the introduction of the Mark VII.
