considering masvidal lost, and thompson won't get another title shot as long as he lives, the winner of rda / lawler seems like a clear number 1 contender fight.

Dana's already said Robbie/RDA winner gets the shot. I know that's worth nothing but it's a stated intention if nothing else. Woodley has a hosed up shoulder according to Joe Rogan so it's probably a long way off anyway.

woodley doesnt have an awful fighting style anymore. it will always be bad that he derailed so many good fights. I think that mainly, hes frustrating to watch because of how smart he fights

If you don't match Woodley up against an awkward but dangerous counterstriker (twice) who never makes the first move, or the best BJJ specialist in the division, then he probably wouldn't fight so carefully.

It's all well and good to say that Woodley fought smart against Maia, but (like Anderson before him) he utterly refused to engage in any meaningful way even once it was clear Maia had nothing for him. Big difference from the Wonderboy fights, since Thompson could still launch a kick at any moment.

I don't hate Woodley, but it seems pretty obvious by now that his style either leads to brutal KO's (cool) or horrifically plodding decisions (not cool).
