They way they both interact with each other on twitter makes that seem like it might actually happen.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/2017/11/05/vin-scully-i-never-watch-another-nfl-game/833765001/

quote:

“I have only one personal thought, really. And I am so disappointed,” Scully said, according to multiple videos of the moment posted on social media. “I used to love, during the fall and winter, to watch the NFL on Sunday. And it’s not that I’m some great patriot. I was in the Navy for a year. Didn’t go anywhere. Didn’t do anything. But I have overwhelming respect and admiration for anyone who puts on a uniform and goes to war. So the only thing I can do in my little way is not to preach. I will never watch another NFL game.”

Vin is a super rich old white guy and has always had typically gross super rich old white guy political opinions when people have bothered to ask him about it. Thankfully that isnt very often.

He's somewhere between 90 and 95 years old, and he said he wasn't going to preach about it. Given that his angle is probably that he just wants people standing for the anthem, it's really not worth a lot of bother. It's not as if he's a vocal opponent of what is going on.

When I was 17, my father was so stupid, I didn't want to be seen with him in public. When I was 24, I was amazed at how much the old man had learned in just 7 years.
Also this issue has been incredibly muddled, it's very hard for someone who hasn't been following this to resist the noise of "this is all about the troops, and the NFL players . . . they hate them, and America!!!"

It's OK to think black people should shut up if you're old

If only someone in Scully's organization had spoken about this before, maybe if there was a prominent example he'd have learned something

I watched PTI for the first time in like, 5 years last night.

It's still good? And easy to see why it spawned so many imitators.

PTI's biggest asset is that their takes are interesting but not like "hot takes" a lot of the time. And obviously the natural chemistry. The way that Mike is always calling into Tony's podcast and talking about how he calls him on the weekend makes it clear that they're actually friends which is kinda sweet, even if they're both giant idiot gas bags.

Hands up if you're surprised another radio shithead from boston has another lovely take

In today's episode:

quote:

“‘[In a voice mocking Halladay] Weee! Oh look I just landed on the water, everybody. I’m gonna tweet it!’ Splat. You’re dead. Two kids. Moron.”
“I find that offensive, that you are that cavalier about life.”
“I’m sorry dude, you’re on your own. I got no sympathy for you.”
“If that’s how you’re wired, and that’s how you die? Bon voyage.”
“I don’t blame the plane for the fact that the guy wanted to dive-bomb through mountains. Idiot!”
“Idiot!”
“If I die helicopter skiing, you have the right to do the exact same thing I’m doing to Roy Halladay. He got what he deserved.”

Even as Wilbon has kind of turned into more of an ornery old dude with some silly opinions, the sports media landscape is such that it's still refreshing to hear a person with normal dumb takes. Like, at least there's no questioning that's what the dude really thinks

Yeah, the story goes that PTI was inspired by Mike and Tony's arguments in the WaPo newsroom, so the basic premise of the show was "do that, but cut out the swear words."
