Besides Delicas and FJ's, what are some of the other not sports-car vehicles that are in considerable demand at the moment within the US market? Asking because with the weak NZ dollar currently it might be viable to look into exporting from here as well for some models. Example: Delica for sale at the moment for $4500 US

Things that are turbo and things that are diesel, bonus points for turbo diesels. Outside of that neat colors, cool graphics that scream 80s or 90s, and Hiluxes that are diesel.

It has one of those flip-the-rear thing that opens just the back by a few inches but it stays in place, pivoting on the front. You can see it has a curtain too, like a tiny house curtain with velcro in the center to keep it closed.

I can only find one instance of a Crown Wagon in the United States and it was a hearse so I can't even find if the thing IS removable. I don't know why I would for the reasons you guys are joking about but I suppose there is something to be said for a gaping hole in the roof at highway speeds.

Their YouTube is all about Japanese Imports as done from the people in Japan out to other countries. The main dude is from Canada and they import to both Canada and USA. They have a lot of walk around and discussions about the cars they are exporting and it's really neat. Haven't checked out there instructional-esque videos but they have some of them too.

The roof in my 1G Talon was removable, and had a diffuser that would go in its place. You'd get considerably more airflow in to the cabin when it was removed.

So we tried to fix the thermostat on the Suzuki and poo poo has gone downhill fast.

I am wondering if anyone is familiar with the f6a motor with the e choke carb?

When it shipped over the thermostat was stuck open so it never heated up, the choke spring was not connected so the choke defaulted to closed at all times. It ran but was super rich.
So we replaced the thermostat and noticed the carb spring disconnected, we hooked it back up. It runs crazy rough now when we get it started but usually it wont do a cold start on its own. I know these are pretty specific but I thought I would ask.

A few months ago my Acty would run like hot poo poo when I'd step on the gas. There are two solenoids in my carb that regulate air/fuel mixture and one went bad. Took me about 4 hours or so total (once I had all the parts) to take it out, disconnect all the little rods and replace both (the other one would go bad if I didn't probably) and have it back in the van.
It fixed my issue.

EDIT
The post I made in the 'What did you do to your ride' thread here in AI

When good solenoids go bad. About 2 weeks ago when I went to pull away from a stop light my van started sputtering. Right away my heart sinks and I starting getting all worried because here I am daily driving a thing that I must repair myself.
Turns out that there are two solenoids that control various air fuel mixtures within the carb depending where the engine is at at idle. 60 bucks for both solenoids (even though only one was bad might as well replace them both) and a week for shipping and a bit over two hours and the van runs great again. I'm so loving proud of myself since this van is pushing me to do things I'd never do on my own out of necessity.

Ya I think its a couple of things, the e choke solenoid is likely bad. The carb needs to be tuned, and possibly the secondary step up solenoid is bad. I am thinking I just roll the dice with a ebay special (150$) and hope it works, otherwise the two solenoids each are about 100$ from suzuki.

Both run beautifully, both have working A/C and it truly looks like both of them were 1 owner vehicles. The Rugger included all of the original manuals including the dedicated one just for the air conditioning system and the Acty has a stack of maintenance records.

The Rugger itself is so goddamned cool, I've fallen in love with it so hard that I've (probably) decided to sell my 90 Acty. Everything on the outside that says 'Turbo' is in bright red, the 'R' in 'Rugger' has the same red done up in a line. Inside the RPM gauge there is a 'TURBO' label with a light above it that lights up green when the turbo spools. 4x4, third differential and low range complete with locking hubs. And that interior, best blue. It's this manly looking tiny cute SUV that clatters along and responds like an eager puppy. It does have that tear in the driver's seat side, the stereo situation is hosed and the rear right sags juuuuuust a bit. It's going to need new tires sooner rather than later also.

The 1983 Acty is rad as gently caress too, it's powered by half a Goldwing, is red/maroon on the inside with that rad fabric pattern and also is really eager. Check out it's full-width mono-mudflap. It feels just like my 1990, you can easily see and feel that they are related. It's issues are its driver seat is a bit sunk-in, has a deep tear down to the metal springs and has a seam tear close by that one. It also has a piece of plexiglass as it's sliding window on the passenger side, and the sliding glass tracks in the sliding doors have rust underneath the rubber seals, you can't see it unless you look but it is there. One of the rear hubcaps is cracked and missing a chunk. Otherwise just look at it. Includes brand spankin' new tires.

Both of them are filthy as gently caress and need a deep clean internally and externally. Both of them were smoker's cars too but now no longer smell like smoke. Instead, the Rugger smells like that cheap air freshener that they use in Rest Area bathrooms along the highway. The Acty came with an ashtray filled with loose desiccant (???) and smells like grandma's closet in an-old-stuff-sitting-around-sort-of-way. I'm guessing that whoever owned the Acty suddenly didn't anymore, then it sat in storage for a bit before they sold it to a dealer where I bought it. Both of them were also really 'dry', in that the rubber and joints and wheels and things in the doors were just dry and rubbing metal on metal. Squirts of oil, globs of grease and liquid silicone fixed all that, tomorrow is bath day.

Isn't it really weird that all of the internal controls on these JDM cars are in English? Like, the heater controls, the dashboard stuff, etc. I kind of get why they put English stickers on the outside, like TURBO, but do 100% of Japanese drivers understand things like CHOKE and SUB/HEATER PULL?

The Japanese think english is cooler than Kanji, it's kind of a cultural envy thing.

When I was there I always thought it was funny how they interpreted 4WD. It's four w - d instead of four wheel drive.

Some cars have Japanese on the controls, but it tends to be the Japanese-supremacist not-for-export models like the Crown Athlete (whose advertising campaign brags about how it is tailored to the "Japanese physique") and Century (whose HVAC controls and stereo have a surprising amount of kanji).

I love the internet.

And yeah about the English in Japanese cars thing, I certainly appreciate it. There will be Japanese on smaller stuff not in the driver's area, like stickers and tags dealing with the seats folding forward or on the back-side of the engine cover. When we were looking for a Crown it seemed that there were more Japanese in the center stack than the zero of it in everything else we have.

Speaking of the Crown:

It's at port awaiting shipment to the other side of the world where I am at. It's easily both the least expensive and best vehicle I've bought from auction. It's in excellent shape, completely stock and 1 owner with low miles. Suuuuper pumped to bathe in that beige. Shame I won't be able to use that Dolby Noise Reduction system for anything :v:
