Since there's no new episode, which South Park from yesteryear do you think totally holds up? I mean one that isn't dated and is just as funny today as it was then.

I'm probably going to watch Goobacks tonight. It's just as funny as it was 13 years ago!

Do The Handicapped Go To Hell?/Probably are still two of my favorite episodes.

Oh, good. I'm glad we got to the end of the episode before Heidi and Cartman were reunited. I wouldn't have wanted for that to extend over a couple episodes to see what they could've done with it.

"CHA CHA CHA". There's been quite a bit of fun stuff this season, but Heidi/Cartman just kills it.

The end of the episode serves as a warning about playing the I told you so game. Heidi/American Voters realized Cartman/Trump was a bad choice, but making them feel isolated through shaming as they come in from the cold only serves to push them back into the arms of Cartman/Trump. They know they can abuse people to no end as long as they tell them what they want to hear.

So they said this was the end of serialization but here we are with the Heidi/Cartman thing. On one hand I like seeing how much of a piece of poo poo Cartman is, and Garrison-Trump's cartoonish bullshit is a nice compensation for Matt and Trey's failed promise to actually take on the alt-right. On the other hand, giving this much attention to a bad relationship between a normal girl and a sociopath feels more like a weird soap opera, so the whole thing with Heidi being brainwashed and the writers trying to spice up Cartman's antisemitism after several seasons of it just being him isn't just unpleasant, although it definitely is that. I'm saying that on a storyline angle, it just feels like filler for the denouement of wherever they're going with this plot arc.

While I agree that doubling down is certainly a real thing, I don't think it is the source of Trump's existing popularity. Probably why the episode didn't do much for me.

It's definitely a thing. I've seen plenty of people shift from writing off Trump as a total clown who will be disastrous for the party during the primaries, to defending him with near-religious fervor after he was nominated. Including politicians of course, like Paul Ryan, although the motivation is a little different and more transparent there. But for the voters who continue to defend his every action, it stems from a desperate desire for validation. I'm sure many would dispute Trey & Matt's idea that those people "deserve" any form of validation, but at the very least I think they've pinpointed the root cause of this. (Not to say nobody else has done it before.)

I'm sure it exists, but it isn't the main reason for Trump gaining a foothold or not being thrown out. Just like with the rise of Trump and the situation of white nationalism, Stone and Parker got it wrong.

I guess I might've missed your original point, but I'm still not sure I get what you're saying. Of course "doubling down" is not the original reason for Trump's rise, because in order to double down, there has to be something there first. But that's not what the episode was about, it was about doubling down.
