I guess it would make too much sense to hire a contractor to conduct testing using known hardware configurations to follow test scripts and submit data in a timely and consistent manner.

It only makes sense if you are serious about putting out an actual product, though. So in this context, the approach they've taken makes perfect sense

I loved Dredd, and I was a fan of the comics. They avoided the callback laden nostalgia-fest that was the Stallone version, and produced something that worked entirely on it's own. Megacity should have been bigger, but meh.

Yes. The number one reason a business exists is to make money and EA has perfected that. Until gamers vote with their wallets it will never change.

I'm starting to get confused.

The law says that refunds are a legal obligation of CIG.
Backers say that refunds are not a legal obligation of CIG.
Other backers apparently say refunds are now a legal right of CIG?

I don't know who to trust here. The legal system or the guys apparently begging a company to have all of the power in a transaction.

"Best Buy I love you so much please don't loving give that rear end in a top hat back his money for his broken television that will hurt your profits! gently caress him! Take that other guys television from him because he has dishonored Best Buy!"

Like why are you so emotionally invested dudes. It's a loving company selling you a product and the law is extremely clear about it. If you want to fetishize something pretty much anything other than a for-profit company is a better use of your time. Try airplane porn.

It might be the developer or that the people that like Star Wars are more prone to get buttmad about videogames but an important difference between the two is that one game actually exists. You can go start playing it and be presented with it's bullshit which people are rightly mad about.

"Star Citizen" exists in the realm of the imagination right now. You can't get pissed off at how bullshit it's pay 2 win mechanics are because you can't state with 100% certainty what the specifics of it's mechanics actually even will be. Even though they are obviously bullshit you can technically argue they might not be bullshit. That technicality is all they need.

Like LTI. Nobody even knows how that works but we know backers have paid tens of millions of dollars for the concept. It's pay2win bullshit but backers live in that little area of the brain that makes you go "Well we don't know for certain it will be bullshit, and here is all of the ways it could not be bullshit." They won't get angry because they don't want to which is a luxury of the state of the product and it having no firm definition of anything at any level.

All of that falls apart when there is a game though.

Why is the bank storing your money when SC is right there.

Pretty sure if EA announced alpha testing for a game and locked the content behind a paywall at least one person on the internet might have some thoughts about that.

But, sure, say CIG gets a pass on ships. Fine. They're still selling guns at $14+ a pop and actively requesting that people buy them to test them out without offering any kind of way to return post testing. Even people who dove into testing environments would only have access to things that they had purchased. Gun doesn't work? Thanks for the feedback commando.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/voyager-direct/Weapon-Mounts/Cutlass-Flashfire-Specialty-Mount

This drat thing is still in the store and it cannot be used. It worked for a while, then they broke it, then they nixed it. It wont work in the future. It's a cancelled idea. But they're still selling it. If you buy it and discover that not only can it not be used but it wont be used in the future you have to fight with CS to get your money back.

There's a litany of examples of these kinds of practices. You have to be beyond a state of willfully obtuse to accept this kind of conduct.
