If only we could launch a game map directly via a config file (map options, player force, enemy force) and output the battle results to some other file, I could finally have the Battletech:Total War game I've always wanted. Just a random thought.

There is a list of callsigns in the beta files, no "Five Aces" I could find, but I did find "Slenderman" in there. Its got well over 1,000 entries and I'd bet more by release, could be more goony bits in there if anyone wants to look. There's three bear related names in there I can pick out a glance (if you count the mighty DROP BEAR), one short of a full lance. I hope they can work in one more so I can have a full lance. Demon is in there, but that's common enough I couldn't say it's a reference to PTN's LP, but maybe we'll go kick some guys to death with an Atlas. Grandpa is in there too, well in advance of Clan Angry Grandpa.

Now this is making me want a "General's Cam" option for BT like the old Total War games had. You could only see from what the commander on horseback could and had to actually move around the line to get things done. No more hunting for the exact spot. It'd would be more analogous to just yelling "Blockade, get to those trees on the left of the HBK and open up on his right side!" over a radio but I don't know if the current UI would ease in to that kind of play. With 4 human controlled mechs all limited to 1PV, that might be something... On the other hand I see it being real boring waiting for your turn as you can't see poo poo.

I don't have much hope that detail will make it through the scaling down for in game use. "For The Soldier" was an old platoon motto we had during a deployment, I don't think our leadership quite figured out the other meaning.
