Mistral, The Battlebabe In a world like this, it just doesn't make sense to put down roots. Seems like it does, I know, and hell... I've tried it. All I have to show for it is a hole in my heart and a need that can't be met. But, poo poo, we've just met. I'll save that heavy poo poo for later. They call me Mistral. I'll be a gun for hire if the price is right, but I've got a code. No kids, no civs, none of that slave poo poo, and you better drat well pay. If you don't...? Heh. Let's just say it wasn't just the Destroyers that did in One-Eye Jack and his mountain fortress — I saw Squidface and Scorp in the flarelight for sure, might've been more. Ol' One-Eye was well on his way to being No-Eyes by then or you could have asked him. For all the place deserved to burn, though, it's some poo poo watching it happen again. Hell, I'm starting to think I'm bad luck. Cursed or something. I mean, poo poo, how many settlements are gonna get stormed by Destroyers while I'm around? 'Course, neither time was enough to take me down. I guess someone's gotta be using all the luck. Might as well be me. I'm going to need it if I find what I'm looking for. I'm in town to rearm, recharge, and maybe catch a few leads. Been on the trail of the big one for a while now. Yeah, you know the one. Fafnir. Most of the Destroyers are bad news. Nobody's going to argue that. But that motherfucker? It's like the Destroyer of Destroyers. I've seen some of the corpses it's left behind. Razorback got drat near ripped in half. It's a week or so south-east if you want to check. I wouldn't recommend it. A bunch of goddamn crazies started to hollow it out and set up shop. They seem nice enough at first, all hospitable and poo poo, but they're all hosed up in the brains. I settled in for a night sleep when I was passing through and they all tried to put me in the pot. gently caress. That. I'm not much for a stand-up fight, so I grabbed my stuff and got while the getting was good. Saw a bunch of bones while I was booking it, though, so I'm guessing that's part of their usual racket. I wonder if being all up in a dead Destroyer hosed 'em up like that. Maybe. Maybe not. It's a hosed up world, I wouldn't put it past them just being a bunch of murderous cannibal freaks. ...Why am I looking for Fafnir? Isn't it obvious? It took everything from me. I'm going to make drat well sure that it doesn't get away with that for free. Maybe I can't kill it. Maybe I can't even catch it. But if I do find it? I'm going to take Marin, shove it in one of those goddamn crimson eyes, and give it something to remember me by. quote:Tell me how close you’ve gotten to a Destroyer. Dead or alive? Serious question. Like I said, I stayed the night in Razorback's corpse. Smelled worse than it looked and... it looked pretty bad. But I'm guessing that's not what you're after. You want to know if I've seen one of them stomping around. Yeah. I have. I saw Fafnir. Looked it straight in the eye as it stomped its way through The Breach and burned it to the ground with some sort of blue flame. Haven't heard of it? Don't worry about it. It was a long, long way away. Place has been gone for a long time, too. Past that I've tried to keep my distance. No use tangling with 'em, big as they are, and I get the weirdest feeling when they're around. The worst headache you've ever had, maybe. quote:Tell me about the person/place/thing that makes you feel safe. Well, there was The Breach. That's gone now. My family, that's gone too. All I've got left are my guns. I love 'em, they do some fine work, and in a hosed up world like this... it just makes sense to keep your weapons close. Never know when cannibals are going to try to eat you in your sleep or some punkass warlord figures it'd be cheaper to ice you than settle what he owes. If you ask me, here's the best advice I can give you: Shoot fast, shoot straight, and for the love of god shoot 'em before they know you're there. Scarlet, the Battlebabe It's dangerous out there. Oh yes, the Destroyers are out there just waiting but so are humans. People don't just choose to live where Destroyers could come by on choice. And if they do, it's even worse. But it's not like the land outside of civilization is useless. Still lots of valuable things out there. You need someone who can go there, deal with anything or anyone there, take what they came for, and get back. That's me. quote:
quote:Tell me how close you’ve gotten to a Destroyer I killed one. To be fair, a baby. There are Destroyers that leave their children to fend for themselves, and some lunatics found an egg. As far as I can tell they managed to raise it to be somewhat obedient to them. They were using it to terrorize the area nearby and I was sent to find out what was going on. It took a lot of time, bullets, and blood - but eventually I managed to bring it down. Took out the idiots leading it around, or at least enough of them to matter. Can't imagine the kind of people who would do this...or the kind that would be able to. quote:Tell me about the person/place/thing that makes you feel safe My father, Absinthe. My mother didn't make it when our original home came under attack by a Destroyer. He and I moved on, and he taught me much of what I know today. He's getting older though, and now stays at our home instead of going out with me. He provided for me, now I provide for him. Heliotrope fucked around with this message at 04:56 on Nov 25, 2017 |

Corvi, The Bone Picker People say the world is destroyed. In hushed voices, they don't want to admit it. But they believe it. The world is broken, perhaps. Depends on if you think humans should be the top of the food chain. Some try to correct that. Titan was one. He was a god among men. The human Destroyer. Certainly had the stature for the title. Could take on an army alone so they said. And had an army following him. I was one of the hanger ons. Back before I understood. But a Destroyer is not an army. It is much more as a person is to an army of ants. The smart ones scattered. One person usually isn't worth the effort for a Destroyer. But if you're bunched up too much... The clever, like me, simply hid. Though Titan did not appreciate the clever. Only the brave or loyal. The carnage I saw when I finally dared to lift my head from my hole... it was a feast for crows. It was a feast. Now I understand my place in the new chain. And I thrive. I pick the bones of the world clean in the shadow of its new gods. I close my eyes and seize it I clench my fists and beat it I light my torch and burn it I am the beast I worship! I feast! I rule! I am the queen of this graveyard. The walking dead still cling to life. Cling to pain. I rise above them. In my roost I am beyond reproach. I built it upon stilts so that I may see prey and predator from far. A proper nest of bones, to ward off the squeamish not worth my time. There is nowhere I sleep more soundly. It is a throne to laugh and grow fat on, fit for this world. quote:Corvi

(image source) Armstrong, the News My old man told me about cities. He used to say that the place he was born was bigger than any hardhold we ever saw -- thousands upon thousands of people -- all out in public, in the streets, talking to each other all the time through phones and the radio and God knows what else. 'Course, that many people in one place out in the open was irresistible to the Destroyers, and all those cities ended in one big scream. Now we're the way we are, all scattered and confused. The old man used to say that that's the worst thing the Destroyers took from us: the knowledge of each other, the communication. That's why I need to do my part to bring it back. We found this place by accident. Before we found it, we were scavengers: me, my old man, and my sister Goldie. We found this bunker in the swamp, and of course we figured there'd be something decent inside, right? What we found was the equipment. The records. A safe enough place to rest, if you bundled up. My old man's old man was a radio man, and he'd learned enough to show me how the equipment worked. By then his rot-lung was giving him a lot of trouble, so we hunkered down so he could rest up. He didn't get better, but at least he died somewhere safe, somewhere with music. Been a few years since then, and we've done what we can to get this place off the ground. It's started to get a reputation -- plenty of people out there with radios that still work, grateful that they pick things up -- and people stop here for a clean bed while they're travelling through the swamp. We get some of them on air, when they have something to say, and lately people have been showing up just to talk. You have a little food, a little jingle, or something really important to say? You have the air. Welcome to Swamp Ash Radio. quote:Tell me how close you've gotten to a Destroyer. Well, there was one night maybe five years ago, back when we were scavenging... we stayed out on the opens too late, and we had to run for a cave after dark, once we started to hear the stomps. The thing we saw there was all hooks and blades, just a bunch of legs sticking out of a big ball of sharps, searching the wasteland for God knows what. I remember my old man started coughing, and I shushed him, like it was going to notice us? It couldn't have heard us over the sound of its own body, scraping and creaking. But... that's the thing with Destroyers, right? They can always notice you. They can always find you. Even if you're in a little cave and the only noise is your old man coughing. quote:Tell me about the person/place/thing that makes you feel safe. For "person," it's got to be Goldie. She's my big sister, and she's always been the one of us who could fight. Don't get me wrong, I'm okay, but she's got the nerve I don't have, and she's fast with a knife. Always said she'd be there for me. I'm glad she gets a kick out of the radio like I do -- otherwise, we'd be moving on, and I wouldn't stay here without her. Otherwise, it's... there's this storage closet off the barracks, with a deadbolt, and it's kinda my private bolthole. I keep a couple days' rations in there, and a few blankets, and the ash cans for my old man and my mom and the couple kids they had before us who didn't make it. When things get crazy, Goldie and I can hide out there... not that we've had to yet. Sometimes I go down there just to talk to the old man, somewhere Goldie won't think I'm crazy. I know he's gone, but sometimes it feels good to talk and pretend he's hearing me. quote:Name: Armstrong Antivehicular fucked around with this message at 08:37 on Nov 25, 2017 |

Some things that have come up in Discord chat, reprinted here for ease of reference: -Destroyers are Generally huge, territorial, and able to smash the works of (wo)man. -Exceptions to these are possible -I'm all for folks deciding that their PC is a Gianthunter, that sounds cool. Most NPCs would think you're nuts, but that’s why they're NPCs -Damaging standard Destroyers is like damaging buildings: non-cumulative and with high harm thresholds Anyways, some questions! Mistral, The Battlebabe Who else survived the Fall of Breach, and how do you feel about that? How did you last job go? Scarlet, the Battlebabe What’s the most dangerous thing you’ve been paid to bring back? Who knows where you rest your head that you wish didn’t? Corvi, The Bone Picker Did Titan ever acknowledge your existence? Who comes to the graveyard that doesn’t seem to fear you? Armstrong, the News Have you ever had to use that rifle of yours on a person? Who’s got their eye on the Broadcast Bunker?

PoultryGeist posted:Armstrong, the News Yeah, and it wasn't fun, believe me. Around six months ago, while I was out in the generator shed tuning it up, I saw this guy running towards me -- a guy covered in... looked like old hides and antlers. You'd have to be pretty crazy, or be out here a long time, to get that many deer, and I could tell he wasn't on his way to come talk and share a meal. I fired at center mass, and I got him somewhere in the mess of hides; I could see him fall, see the blood. I ran inside. Never checked for a body -- swamp eats bodies pretty quickly, anyway, so it's not like it would have been a lot of use -- but I haven't seen him since, so either he's dead or he knows to give us a wide berth. Didn't like that at all. Hope he really was planning something and not just unsociable. quote:Who’s got their eye on the Broadcast Bunker? That's gotta be that loving rear end in a top hat Crompton. More like ruined their chance to get killed, but you can't stop that kind of idiot. Now Crompton wants this place as a "hunting lodge," just to "even the score." Think he knows he and Rambler can't take it on their own, but if they get a hunting party together... well, that's a big "if." But we're watching out, just in case.

Zane the Shepard (HardHolder) We live our lives as we did before. The world did not end for us. My grandfather said this: Once there were seas of men who were empty inside and had forgotten the old ways. They built great towers to reach the sky and scorned and poisoned the land that gives men life. They challenged Allah in their arrogance and so he sent the Destroyers to purify them. But those who knew the old ways were spared. When Destroyers came, we moved the flock as we always did. When the blight-men fell to madness, we moved the flock as we always did. When their world died, the blight men left us many open places to live even as the Destroyer claimed their pieces of the land. We thrived in seas of grass where other men saw only death. My father said this: the future of humankind lies in remembering the ways of the past. Not the wicked ways of the blight-men, but in the old ways before them. Our people remember these ways, so the future lies with us. My father did much to protect our people. He killed many and performed every kind of cruelty for this truth. I lead our clan now. I say this: the future lies with the knowledge we hold, and for it to be secure it must spread far outside our blood. This is risk to our people, to make peace with the broken children of the blight. But it is the only way to break the curse that still holds this world. Tell me how close you’ve gotten to a Destroyer Maybe 20 miles? Or more, it is hard to tell size and distance, maybe as far as 100 miles if it towered like a true mountain. We were not close enough to tell. My people, we do not challenge Destroyers. We do not come close to their claim. We do not risk this, when they come near, we move. They are things of nature, not men. There is no good in fighting them, only learning how to live in a world that contains them. -Tell me about the person/place/thing that makes you feel safe My family around me, the laughter of my children, my nephews, my nieces, my cousins. The sound of animals and the warmth of our fire. The songs of my people. Roasted meat and clear purpose. These things make me feel safe, they make everyone feel safe. You must remember this. quote:HardHolder quote:

PoultryGeist posted:Mistral, The Battlebabe Mm, yeah, there's a few. Most of us just went our seperate ways. Easier that way, you know? Nobody wants to be reminded of everything we lost. Well, nobody but Montoya. That kid's been dogging me for a long time. I'm not about to say I'm running from her or anything, but avoiding her is a nice perk to this fuckin' madhouse quest to be a godslayer. I mean, sure, I feel for her. It's a goddamn crazy world and people want something that makes 'em feel safe. poo poo, I get it. But you know what? That's not me. Not by a long shot. The best I've done for everyone I've loved is got them dead. Not exactly what Montoya wants outta this, I'm sure, but I'm not about to wait for her to catch up so I can ask. It's just... poo poo. She reminds me of my kid, okay? Not what I want. Not like I can forget, nah, I'll never forget. But seeing her is like rubbing salt in it. PoultryGeist posted:How did your last job go? About the usual. Which, I guess, is basically like saying everything was completely hosed from the word go and I somehow skated out of the wreckage a little bit richer for my trouble. It was in a cave complex they called the Folly. Nice little spot, or at least it was, and basically Destroyer proof. Not about to put that to the test against one of the real big boys, but the people of the Folly were pretty drat clear that they'd gone more than a year since their last casualty to a Destroyer attack. That's pretty drat incredible. Hell, even before the Breach fell we would lose a few when one of the lesser Destroyers, more Destroyerlings than anything, got curious about a convoy or some drat fool bandits went too loud trying to take our jingle. So while I was doing my usual rest and recon bit, I got approached by the local bigwig for a gig. Short-term bodyguard poo poo, nothing too unusual. Wouldn't have been the first time I've taken a few toughs out that wanted to shake down some rich rear end in a top hat. Of course, it didn't turn out that simple. Should've figured as much with how much jingle Cutter was willing to drop. He didn't even blink when I highballed him! Fuckin' rookie mistake. Ah well. So, yeah, I signed on for about a week's worth. First few days were fine. A helluva lot of drinking, even found a local guy who helped me change out a few parts that were wearing down in Marin and Cers. 'Course, the next day it all went to poo poo. So Cutter? Turns out he's a slaving fuckface and the reason he wanted a gun like me around was that some of the surrounding communities were gettin' more than a little tired of his gang of ne'erdowells takin' their ladies for some loving awful reasons. Tired enough that they formed a big ol' mob and seiged the caves. Now, here's the thing. I got that code, right? So once I get the reason that the motley crew pinning us in was there — amazing what people will tell you when you've got a big-rear end gun to their balls — it was clear that the job was off on account of a fuckin' false premise. 'Course, I still needed the jingle. Made my course of action pretty clear: I needed to rob the fucks, grab Cutter or someone else important to hand over for safe passage through a frenzied mob, and just get the hell away from this madhouse. The first bit was pretty easy. I mean, it's a fuckin' cave complex. Of course they're gonna put the good poo poo in the deepest bit. Had to vent a few goons along the way, including the gal who'd been buyin' me drinks, but poo poo happens. gently caress slavers anyways. Getting Cutter or one of his ell-tees? That was a little more interesting. Cutter was hiding out in his little command center thing. Must've been some sort of old-world tech he found, because I can't imagine an rear end like that having the know-how to make arm-thick sliding steel doors. 'Course, there was a little thing he hadn't considered. Ventilation shafts. They were the real roomy ones, the kind that nobody in their right mind should be usin' but you need to keep things fresh in a cave, and I managed to slip in and get a drop on him. Woulda been nice to hand him over intact, but he was a bit of a fighter. Marin put a stop to that real quick, though, the fuckin' flechettes cut him in half. The rest wasn't much to speak of. Bit of yelling and shaking their boss's body at 'em got the guards to get the gently caress outta my way, though I still had to vent a few ambitious types along the way. I tossed the boys out front the half of Cutter that had his face on it, got on my bike while they were trying to figure out my angle, and just hosed off down the road. Don't really know what happened past that, don't really give a poo poo either. Though... well, I guess I hope the mob got their ladies back. Gila the Brainer It's deceptive, how huge they are. You'd think something so big would be easy enough to avoid. Instead, they're upon you before you know it, the only warning the thunder of their steps, if they are a variant generous enough. Unless you know how to listen properly. Corvi, The Bone Picker Did Titan ever acknowledge your existence? Who comes to the graveyard that doesn’t seem to fear you? Not directly. His compliments had been passed on by lieutenants. Which I did appreciate, it often came with an extra ration you see. Titan believed in positive reinforcement. Make your people eager to please you. Make them fight for your favor. Fight each other that is. There were more hanger ons than there was wealth to go around. But that sorted itself out. The strong rose to the top of the pecking order, predisposed to do what Titan asked for. It was a well structured operation. I think that's why I stuck around. Despite the troubles. As you can tell I was never one of the favorites. Really it was a few of his favorites that I was the favorite of. I was more like a scout. Not that I have a good eye. But the person you send ahead. I could get in and open the gate for the boys. Of them I preferred to work with Klub. She was a mountain of a woman. Crushed her foes with her bare hands. She is everything I fail to be. I don't doubt she fell fighting the destroyer. But I would be happy if she fled and survived. The nameless wretch. She was the gem of some hole. Won't tell me. Don't care. Didn't ask her name either. She said she didn't have one anymore in the rant after I asked her what's her deal. People don't just waltz into the boneyard. Well apparently they do if they have a death wish. No luck for her though. I'm not in the habit of eating people and she's got no muscle anyway. Just fat in select spots. Precooked though. She's lucky she can still walk with so much of her body charred. Bit of strength in that pile of kindling sticks. Since she's got no other work she's been going to camps to trade the salvage I get. I let her keep half the food. I keep expecting her to just run with the stuff give me an excuse to kill her. But she hasn't guess she likes having a place she doesn't have to cover her face. It's what I like about the roost too.

Zero, the Gunlugger The world is. Rotten. Broken. Dead. It is infested with human vermin, slavering beasts, and moving mountains of monsters. There is no safety, no guarantee that you will keep living, except that which you can secure yourself. Most people cannot secure anything; they are small, fragile, weak. Any moment could be their last. So, they hire me. To protect them, their families, their settlements, whatever it may be that they care about. To get some security in their small, scared lives, and perhaps eventually die in a manner that is less unpleasant than what the raiders, the wastes, or the Destroyers have for them. Most people also hate each other, and want at least one other person dead. So, they hire me for that, too. I am not picky about the work that I do, and killing someone is usually faster work than standing guard. More interesting, too. It also gives people another reason to hire me, because I am one more thing that they may need protection from otherwise. quote:Tell me how close you've gotten to a Destroyer. Running and driving beneath one's feet, in pursuit of my quarry. I was chasing one of my bounties, forcing him through a valley to try to escape me. The terrain prevented the both of us from seeing it at first. He drove for it anyway, presumably figuring that he could avoid its feet and that I would not pursue him. To his credit, he was right on the first one, until I caught him. Unfortunately, while I was collecting his head, the Destroyer stepped on my car, forcing me to use my prey's vehicle, which I had... Damaged, in my pursuit. It broke down later, unsurprisingly. I had to walk the rest of the way to turn his head in. I have been without a vehicle since, which has been rather inconvenient. quote:Tell me about the person/place/thing that makes you feel safe. The noise of civilization. The dull murmur of people working. Laughing. Fighting. loving. Living. It is relaxing, somehow. Does that surprise you? I admit, I do not like most people. I. Hate. Some in particular. I prefer to not interact with most outside of business. But, that is fine. I do not have to like them for them to be worthwhile. To make and do things I can or will not do, to have their own lives. Besides, people mean work. As long as there are people, someone will want someone else killed. quote:The Gunlugger Roland Jones fucked around with this message at 00:00 on Nov 29, 2017 |

PoultryGeist posted:What’s the most dangerous thing you’ve been paid to bring back? A deer from the Woodhold area. Now the deer itself it pretty regular, no threat there, but Dremmer does not approve of anyone even going through without paying and being escorted out - and he really hates it if someone from outside goes hunting or foraging in there. You don't come back if he finds out what you're up to. But the people at Stockard's really love eating things that are hard or dangerous to get, and one of Dragon's people managed to divine from the maelstrom or whatever that the southeast area of Woodhold would have guards then normal because a Destroyer was rumored to be coming close elsewhere. So they sent me and Poppycock, their driver, to bag a deer as quickly as possible and get away in her truck. Things mostly went as planned, but apparently one guard was close enough to hear the shot and investigated just as me and Poppycock were putting the deer in the back. I quickly fired a shot and killed him, and we got out of there as soon as possible. Hopefully Dremmer doesn't realize who killed the guard or that a deer was taken from his land. It'd piss him off enough to send people after me and I don't really need that right now. PoultryGeist posted:Who knows where you rest your head that you wish didn’t? Most people around here know about me killing that Destroyer from before, but almost no one knows that other people were controlling it. Vision somehow knows though, and he managed to follow me back home. Vision is the leader of that group of weirdos that are waiting for some savior to show up, as if this were a children's story and one human would be able to end the threat of the Destroyers. He's convinced I'm that savior, and keeps trying to get me to meet his cult and go fight "the forces of evil." I keep refusing, but he's getting pushy about it. There's been no need for violence yet, but even if he escalated I'd have to deal with his followers and that's not a fight worth having.

Bahari They say it was different before. That the Destroyers destroyed the world. That anyone could ride, and all the bikes were shiny and chrome. They talk too much. Tell me how close you have gotten to a Destroyer I've cut one, Greyface, the one that lurks by that old time broken arch. Yeah, we had camped out about 10 miles from there, in a nice little hide that had tanks of fuel. Where exactly don't matter. Must have smelled our exhaust. We had just filled up the bikes, when this big hand swoops down and grabs Pixie. Now Pixie can be a pure evil bitch. But she's mine. I revved up Shamu, and started swirling up dust around the damned giant thing. Never quite understood why but if you do figure eights right in front of them, they can't grab you. Well, it swung a few times, and I could smell the remains of the last thing it had ate. Pixie meanwhile is screaming, and releasing her gear catches, trying to drop out of his grip, and I drop the throttle back, and head straight between it's feet. Take this machete here and swipe on the back of it's foot. Grey poo poo sprays everywhere, and I'm sliding like its loving New Year's day and I forgot to put on my snow chains. To be honest, thought I was a deader. But it roars and drops Pixie, Diamond and Trips grab her up onto their trike, and we flee. I hear that Greyface has a limp now. SKADI LCDR Liu-Tereshkova, Artemis quote:::MOIRAI/NORN Directive 1138:: I am one of the Chosen. Valkyrie, hero, giant slayer. In the fifty years since our honored ancestors were driven from Sacred Earth, we have prepared to reclaim it. To drive back the monsters that forced us to take refuge here, at OLYMPOS. I spent my life preparing for The Day. Countless hours of instruction, simulation, sparring with the others selected for Landfall. Training my body so I could stand at the bottom of a world's gravity well. Learning to make use of our carefully hoarded relics, crafted from our meager surplus while technicians scrounged and saved to keep aged station systems running. For fifty years, my ancestors, my family, my friends, myself, have prepared for the coming battle. I know my holy mission. I will succeed. And nothing will stand in my way. Not the defenses of the lost nations, not the machinations of those who would shy from our appointed task. Not even the Destroyers themselves. The time has come. Exile ends. Reclamation begins. Zane the Shepard What is the thing that most threatens the well-being of the Ka’sesen? People. Broken people. Outsiders. We must make them remember how to live for the good of all. But for the good of the Ka'sesen here and now? It would be better if we killed every last one of them. We can anticipate and avoid the Destroyers. But our herds are vulnerable to a sneak attack from madmen and our people are too valuable to discard in foolish war. So, we should limit contact, hide and kill any who know too much of us. This is what my father believed, and we thrived under his rule. I believe there is another path and that my father had broken inside much as those he hated. They are a threat, but life has many threats. I will not make us sin any more out of fear. Who do you favor to lead the clan once you reach the end of your wander? It depends on when it ends. For now I have told them that my Uncle Rakin should take my place. He supported my ascension, but he also believes much as my father did about outsiders and protecting our people. If I die soon then my course of action was likely foolish. He is old, but experienced and capable for now. He will lead the remnants to safety. If things go well then I will support my firstborn daughter Amala. It is an old thing that the man of this bloodline should rule. But my father declared that we must discard this foolishness of treating women as lesser and I believe it was one of his better acts. She is the most capable, I will have time to groom her and prepare the people for a woman's rule.

Bahari How did you come to lead the Vipers? About a year ago, Wadu was running the vipers. Wadu and I weren't tight, but she did right by us all, kept us in jingle, and tried to keep us clear of the Destroyers and the men that are worse than the destroyers. We had a meet with The Mayor of Riverton set up, we had some extra ammo, they had some extra shine. Should have been a nothing deal. Wadu takes Trips and Jens in to Riverton to finalize the swap site. Should have been a short trip. Night comes, but Wadu, Trips and Jens don't come back. Diamond and I convince Pixie to stay back with the prospects, and ride in with the rest of the girls. The Mayor has a lot of guts and is a tough hombre, but he's not great on planning. Near as I can figure, he thought he could take our leader and we'd just roll away in the night. Some of our girls have escaped from towns like Riverton, no way we were leaving anyone in that hell. We snuck in on foot, idiots thought they were safe behind their walls, we killed the guards at the gate quiet like. I had gone with Wadu the last time we did a meet in Riverton, so I new where the slave pen was. We found Wadu and Trips in there, but no Jens. Trips was pretty beat up, but Wadu, she was unconscious. Diamond and I grabbed Wadu, and we snuck right back out. Turns out Jens had taken a shine to the Mayor and set it up. Someday, I'll settle the score with both of them. Trips, he's okay. Wadu, she couldn't ride after that, her hands shake too much. What know-nug have you kept from everyone else, even your closest? Sometimes, if I let the Maelstrom in, the voices of past Presidents tell me which way to ride, and where to hit.

PoultryGeist posted:Specialist: Lombardi, Maria M. Over the past few days, sure, I've been asked where I'm from, and I've been vague about it. It doesn't seem that usual for people to just wander up here, but it's less usual for people to have no clue about...well, anything, particularly the Destroyers. L'nai asked point-blank if I came from the other side of the Siren Gate; she described what matches my memories of the early-warning systems at the entrance to Stasis. I said yes - no point lying to the one friend I seem to have made here so far. I'm thankful for her hospitality, and I will take her up on the offer. It seems a little tinged, but I'll navigate that when I have to. We both agree, I can't be going back inside the facility every night. Too much travel time and I also won't get the integration I need with the local population to figure anything out. Update: I should have recorded this earlier, but this community adjacent to Stasis that I've found myself in is called Woodhold. Doesn't ring a bell.

PoultryGeist posted:Zero the Gunlugger Of course. While I have kept any single ward or small group under my protection safe, I am sometimes hired to guard hardholds, convoys, and trade caravans as well. When a group that large is attacked or ambushed, it is often not a matter of if people die, but how many. But, I mitigated the casualties, among those I was protecting, and my clients usually understood that. Usually. Once, I was hired by some traders to protect their caravan. As expected, it was attacked by raiders mid-route. The other guard, the traders, and I fought them off, wiping them out to a man. There was only two or three deaths and some cargo damage, but the caravan leader was furious. He began screaming at me, that I hosed up. That the stories he heard about me must have been lies. That he wouldn't pay me. So I punched him and threw him off the moving truck. The new caravan leader paid me in full when the route was finished. She was much more reasonable; I look forward to working with her again. quote:Where do you go when you don’t want to have to watch your back for a bit? I have a house-vehicle parked some distance from the hardhold I visit most often. It hasn't run in years, since well before the Hecatonchires smashed my last car and I shot it in the face. Even before that, it drank gas like mad and handled like poo poo. But, it is fine as a place to stay. Particularly with the metal plates I bolted to it, among other things. It is a good place to be alone, though it also works as a place to discuss a job or have company over if I want to. I don't want to have company over. I may have it repaired; despite its problems, being able to move it would be convenient, in case I start getting too many visitors. Or it ends up in a Destroyer's path. It's not the kind of task I usually take on, leaving someone better than they were, but an interesting challange. It is though, a work in progress. In the meanwhile, Cintri has been useful, though I'd better take care not to push her. She's not to far from the edge herself, and her sister is what keeps her from going over.
