interesting, so using the Apple Facebook integration gives them less info than using the browser or app? the whole deal with Facebook shadow profiles is just so lovely and I try to interact as little as possible with FB which is why I didn’t appreciate their logo being so prominent from one OS update to the next

Apple has fixed that now in that safari quarantines third party cookies between domains. in-app web views also don’t share cookies with safari or other apps, so they can’t link those. the app is a data vacuum. it will ask for permissions for just about everything, which you should deny. it will send the contents of your paste buffer to facebook and the text of posts and replies you type and delete, your location, and pretty much any other info it can gather. the iOS integration is fairly benign. I’m guessing they can probably get some info about who you know when it pulls their contact info even though Apple does a lookup by hash. but that’s about it afaik. either way, the integration does nothing until you log in, so if you don’t like Facebook, don’t log into it.

didn't the management actually work at apple though? taht's different than old cremns interesting stuff about the old FB integrations. I'm glad at least one company gives a poo poo about not selling out their users data. it was probably the same deal with the Apple-developed YouTube and Maps apps. dead and gone because they didn't give enough data to Google.

You can do a lot with user data to increase ur margin w/o selling it to third parties if you are some kind of vertically integrated monstrosity such as Apple, and if you do sell it you might get a short term cash boost (which Apple doesn't need obviously) but potentially forfeit a bunch of long term profits to competition from third parties working in that dataset
