Whenever you pull one it autosaves and tells you this upfront just in case you thought about trying to game it.

Yeah I was wondering about that too. I put +2 truthiness into a core once and I have no idea what it did.

Presumably it raises the droprate for the corresponding elements, but it only narrows it down to two elements so it's kinda poo poo.

Getting weapon-characters from a gatcha in a singleplayer JRPG sounds unorthodox enough to get me interested in this game. Do the rare ones tend to come with side quests or stories?

Which is really funny/hosed up if you view it in the context of the game's story.

There are ones you get in the main story that have actual plot importance but I'm pretty sure all the randomly acquired ones, generic or rare, have no story to them.

It would be cool if games actually used more accents or vocal tics (that aren't horribly forced) or even lisps or other speech impediments because those can add a lot to characterization. Though the publishers probably don't want to pay for that.

That's neat. Is T-elos in there too?

I'd rather have Ziggy tho even though I don't think Ziggy has ever been good. I just like him the most.

I still need to finish XB1 and XBX but I'm sure I'll enjoy XB2 even if the gachapon stuff is a weird way to handle it.

Can you end up with multiples of the same blade through the blade creation system thing?

I'm guessing Horizon and Until Dawn used similar technology for their facial animation because both games almost hit uncanny valley. All the characters have facial tics and you can see them swallowing or curling their lips or blinking rapidly when nervous it's really cool without being off putting the way LA Noire was.

There are some uniques that have their own in world sidequests yeah. And every blade in the game levels their affinity through certain goals that may not always be combat oriented (like find certain wood materials, feed it a musical instrument that it likes etc.)

Granzella actually released a cool looking game a few months ago called City Shrouded in Shadow. I need to pick it up sometime because the opening is you running around while Ultraman fights Godzilla.

i'm pretty sure the premise of city shrouded in shadow is literally that like, every popular big giant monster robot thing comes together for a big fight including an evangelion and you're just trying not to get killed in the middle of it

Internet Kraken

That sounds cool as a premise but the immediate problem I see is that there's only so many ways you can actually evade a massive, giant monster. I'm not sure how a game entirely based around that would keep its gameplay fresh. Unless you actually progress to fighting the monsters yourself in the vein of Shadow of the Colossus.

The levelling system in Witcher 3 is such a drag, like, for real. Run into cool monster tracks on the road, starts a quest. Oh, wait, the quest is double my level. Run into an interesting notice about a monster needing killed, speak to the person who put the notice up, hear the story, sounds interesting. Oh, wait, the quest is three times my level. Guess I’ll have to come back in ten hours and try to remember what was going on. Argh!

I mean, that's Disaster Report. There seems to be more character interaction type stuff which is what those games are secretly about.

It also makes me want another Attack of the Friday Monsters because mundane setting with weird poo poo is one of my fave aesthetics.

Some people just wanna get all the things and don't like to find out that they've been locked out of getting all the things due to something completely random, something locked behind a high/tedious ceiling, or something missable that you'd have no reason to go check for in the first place.

That's one of my issues with the first shadow hearts game. It is entirely possible to miss out on being able to get the good ending as well as all of the bonus stuff related to getting the good ending. Did you answer some questions wrong during a segment where one of your characters is getting tortured by the villain? You're not gonna get access to a side dungeon then that explains a little about what happens to one of the side antagonists that otherwise seems to just disappear from the plot. Did you go to the penultimate dungeon and complete it rather than enter it and immediately leave? Well I hope you enjoy missing out on getting the good ending. Did you forget to pick up a porno magazine in China at a tower that gets blown up? Well, you can't return, so you can't get the ultimate fusion ability for the main character now.

It was pretty lovely. I'm not a fan of things in games becoming permanently missable, even though some of my favorite games are filled with that kinda stuff (like FF9)

Late on this, but 'the good ending' is non-canon in Shadow Hearts 1, it makes sense that it's hard to get imo.

I'm fine with some minor gameplay bonuses being missable because they don't really impact anything, and if something has an actually good reason to be hard to get I'm fine with it - I think something being hidden adds to a game, makes it more layered - but there are things that go too far in the other direction.

quiet is a character from mgsv who is in a bikini and tights. people made fun of the design. kojima, the metal gear solid guy, said 'you will be ashamed of your words and deeds' in response. the game comes out and quiet is a plant-lady who needs sunlight to breathe, hence the outfit. which, if she's wearing that anyway, you'd think she'd just be naked if that was the logic.

Kojima "said" that wrt criticism of quiet's design. it was a translated tweet so his intent might not have been that up his rear end, but it's still "there's a totally good reason for this guys".
