It helps bring home the plight of orphans as well. There's a sort of theme of children without parents going on. The weird out-there anime of the designs isn't my favorite thing, but they all are pretty varied so it does make it kind of exciting to see what you'll get. The creepy doll is fantastic.

In case anyone's still confused about the whole "canceling auto attacks" thing, it's basically a similar concept to Super Mario RPG timed attacks and timing windows in fighting games or rhythm games, except in general the timing window feels super generous here. Every weapon (at least of the ones I've played with so far) has three distinct attacks in its auto attack chain. Pressing an Art Attack button right as one of those auto attacks connects will cause the Art to do more damage and build more special meter, with the biggest bonus being for canceling the third hit in the auto attack chain. You'll know you did it right if you see a blue circle pulse off of Rex/your controlled character. Side note: knuckles look like they have a five hit auto attack chain but in reality they are still three distinct parts, with the proper timing being after the second punch, the third punch, and the finishing kick. Hitting an Art attack button at any other time won't earn the bonus. Interestingly enough, you'll still see this blue circle effect when you perform other actions at the proper time, including switching Blades and triggering Specials, but I don't know if it does anything extra in those situations.

Cancelling into Blade switching will bring them out with all their abilities at the ready if I recall correctly. Useful if you need to topple or launch an enemy quickly. Specials is a boost in damage.

DACK FAYDEN posted:I was using sweets so I could spam abilities constantly but sure, I'll give it a shot! It's a good idea to use sweets on the character you control, and instruments on the AI. It helps them build up their elemental attacks, so you can build up Fire 1 on Pyra, then fire it off and Mia should get Steam Bomb ready fairly quickly, and once you get close to level 3 fire, have Mia use that, and then combo it into your level 3 fire and you'll kill basically any trash enemy by that point. If I have one major criticism of this game, it's that the rewards for killing monsters are terrible compared to the time investment to actually killing them. Trash mobs really need to be more trashy than they are, and the whole combo system, while a lot of fun, backloads damage so much that the health total on most monsters have been adjusted up with the assumption that you'll explode a 30-40k damage hit on them to take off the last half of their health.

Is the song that plays in chapter 3's climax on the LE editions disk? Thinking fondly of the vocal track that plays but I have a feeling if I try to find it on youtube or whatever then I'm going to get spoiled hardcore.

Mor Ardain's daytime theme may be my favorite, it's just so brassy! Da da da da dadadada da! It reminds me of Wild Arms a fair bit. Boreas' voice actor is my favorite Blade VO, somethin' about it just makes me feel very peppy. Is it too early to talk about how really gorgeous (lategame area) Leftheria is? I was thinking we might get an underwater zone, but if they leave it at just that, I'll be alright with it. It's really cool to walk through the cloud sea, and the whole explanation for that zone is awesome. I really hope this game is selling well.

Andrast posted:It's not xenoblade without british accents. Yeah I don't think this dub being bad is the fault of the actors. I highly doubt they were given good direction and they likely used the first take for everything. Also even if "THINK YOU CAN TAKE ME?!?" was spoken by the most talented actor giving their best performance, it would still get annoying when its repeated every 3 seconds.

If I had to choose, I'd rather have bad lip synch than an well-acted broken Ubisoft game. It's not even particularly comparable. I'd rather a game look worse but play better, and I'm not sure -- based on all the stupid poo poo the industry has been doing to squeeze cash out of me for my hobby especially -- we've otherwise struck that balance. I've yet to even have this game crash on me, which has become more common on my consoles than I'm accustomed.
