It's best to let it die anyway, they hosed up everything good about ME3:MP and made everything worse until the very end when they fixed OHKOs and thats about it.

I really wanted to give this one a try because I came into me3 so late but honestly you're better off playing other multiplayer games.

What's everyone playing right now? I'm enjoying splitting my time between forza, Battlefield one, gran turismo sport, and yes, even star wars battlefront 2.

I thought this would be my mp game for a while because the changes in movement and the weapons were fun, but they announced they weren't patching in any new content around the time they said the single player would get no dlc.

This game is just such a gigantic bummer, dude.

It's so drat amazing how much they screwed up the MP at the beginning

Shotguns should be shot from cover!!
We made the krogan less krogany, also we made the headbutt not lock onto enemies

The horrible, horrible lagging

They fixed this stuff for the most part but it was wayyyy too late

If you're talking wacky stuff like the geth juggernaut from ME3, not really. They put out two batarian characters and that's about it for unique stuff. Most of the post release characters have recycled power sets. I imagine they didn't have much of a budget or team to work with once the game bombed and EA started pulling the plug so they did what they could.

I just found my first research station and there's like 1,000 different items in three different categories. No way to compare anything. This is even worse than the DA: Inquisition crafting. I usually craft in games but this is such a mess I don't even want to start.

EDIT: I already have an Avenger rifle. Why is it prompting me to craft one? Do I have to build one before I get access to an improved model?

EDIT 2: On my first mission the loadout screen was pretty weird. I wanted to bring the Predator pistol instead of the Charger, but I could only put mods in the Charger even though the Predator also has two empty slots. No explanation.

That's so depressing.

Mechanically, it's a blast to play but content-wise it leaves so much to be desired.

They also went nuts with the weapon mods this time around so you never felt like you were progressing with a gun since there were three variants of each gun and a bajillion mods loving up your chances at loot you'd want

I just wanted ME3 mp but prettier, smoother movement and better shooting, with more unique characters, more unique weapons, more unique abilities, more maps, and more objective variety.

Unfortunately it only really delivered on graphics, movement, and shooting.
Everything else felt like a rehash or dumbed down.

The MEA mp is just the ME3 mp with better movement, better shooting, a better ability system and the sync kill problem fixed. It still suffers from the match objectives being boring, being loving P2P and being entirely based around credit grinding.

The sad thing is, they were so close to fixing the objective problem - their experimental linear map was fantastic and if they the studio hadn't closed that's probably the direction all future maps would have gone in.

The environments are nice. Alot of good work there. I went down to Eos and for a little while it started to feel like ME again. I think my expectations are low enough that played in brief stretches I'll get my money's worth.

I've also found several "Turian calibration tools." :)

Pff, or all that asset creation for trees and other living things like wildlife?

Three desert planets is the perfect metaphor for how EA handled Mass Effect: it's barren and past its prime.

Tonight's victory was figuring out how to mod my pistol when the interface kept insisting on adding the mods to the one at the top of the list. Combat's sort of annoying, with enemies constantly swarming. It's like they want every player to be a Vanguard and rush in and punch things in the face. I use to love biotic combos, like blowing up a singularity but enemies seem to avoid clumping up. Is it just dumb to do anything other than go combat combat combat?

I remember Tech being extremely good for comboing all day long in singleplayer. I think most of the power buffs and fixes the multiplayer got don't apply to singleplayer sadly, so you'll never get the amazing version of combo detonations or the pet drone.

A shame that the Platinum mp scene died, at least in Europe. Had a good salarian + batarian combo going on with a friend, the special Platinum boss mobs really had you put in some effort. gently caress the hack objectives though.

Yeah you can't go too terribly wrong with this. Combos ain't what they used to be but it's still something, and having these two abilities lets you burn through armor/shields as needed

Another surprisingly fun thing to do is combine biotic charge with the asari sword and become a ninja jedi

One of this game's surprising achievements is including a krogan warhammer but somehow making it boring as poo poo to use

This is a symptom of bad game design. They took ME2/3's combat engine for linear and close quarter combat and tried to add open-world + jetpacks. It also changed MP because there are very few enemy-spawns where you can get them clumped together to maximize AoE skills.

I restarted so I could make a Ryder I thought matched better with the VA, and went the tech route. Hoping this approach works better with the way combat flows in this game. I have incinerate, overload and energy drain so that should be more opportunities for combos while also giving me anti shield and anti armor.

I think my Sentinels were always pistol/SMG. No idea if they serve the same purpose in this game.

Digital Osmosis

Smile, Citizen! Happiness is Mandatory.

here are my thoughts
  • i played a power specialist with three revenant machine guns. one was a scoped mid-ranged death laser. one shot homing grenades. one was a single shot machine gun turned into a sniper rifle. all had regenerating ammo. i was never once over carry weight. crafting in this game owns.
  • personally i'm thrilled bioware listened to the extensive and long-running fan campaign to bring back the mako and the most boring, janky rear end bits of ME1. it's also nice to give the people what they want
  • girl varrus was girl varrus so much it gave me the creeps
  • I liked the one or two stabs at "wait we're colonialist assholes here" which immediately get resolved by ryder saying something pithy
  • did i mention how much i hated the mako? best planet was the mako less planet
  • oh yeah, jump jets are fun. Completely borkes the encounter design, especially in the open world bits, but their satisfying. anthem is looking alright in that department, at least
  • favorite longstanding ME tradition: a totally cardboard GI Joe and GI Jane as your first two companions
  • companions are forgettable. i beat the game like five hours ago and I can only think of old Wrex as old Wrex
  • gil seems like a decent bloke. i shoulda gone gay for him instead of sticking to ME tradition and loving the assari first time
  • character design and animation, even in the final game, is a problem. so is writing.
  • super, super pissed off that EA/Bioware didn't learn from the game. this kind of short term thinking in business of a sufficient scale is literally destroying the planet.
  • introduced a hell of a number of stupid a small mysteries that will never be solved, but again that's a ME tradition. remember in ME1 when Cerberus was a rogue special ops / research group within the alliance military? I do, my first character was the "sole survivor" and it turned out some cerberus dudes set that whole thing up. Never came up again.
  • overall, game was fine. 6.8/10. spent too much time on it, but it's a bioware game, just about, and that scratches a certain itch.
  • but seriously gently caress the nomad
