I didn't want to respond to this because I was pretty sure it was a troll, but we went over this pretty hard in the first season and it hasn't really been news for years now. But yeah, I want to say Barry was way older than 6, too, there's no way the kid playing him (who is 14 now) was supposed to be portraying a 6-year-old. He was already at the age where he was starting to notice girls and even had a crush on Iris before he moved in. They're "family" now through the adoption, sure, but I've gotta think for young Barry it was a case of "I'm living with this cute girl omg."

It was low-key weird, but kinda understandable due to the family trauma or whatever, that nobody really said anything over the years as they grew closer together. But I couldn't help but  at Joe's wedding speech. It was too much "I've raised these two and now they're in love forever and I couldn't be more proud of both my kids." and not enough "HEY so this is super awkward but we have a weird family dynamic and Barry has always been part of our lives soooooo...toast!"like I don't know how you lampshade it, but friggin TRY at least. It's definitely not a normal situation.

This whole conversation strikes me most weird (I mean, besides the weird conflation of weirdness with incest) because the show kind of dealt with all of this in the first couple of seasons and everyone kind of came to terms with it. Sure, its gonna play weird to someone like Alex or Dibney hearing about it for the first time but all the actual concerned parties went through tons of melodrama about it that the thread really, really hated.

That's what I find weird about Joe's speech. I had let go of any sort of hangups about the potentially odd nature of their relationship, forgotten it really. I was completely comfortable buying the relationship as healthy and normal. It felt like they were going out of their way to make it awkward again.

That doesn't strike me as odd considering you assume that anyone who means enough to you to be invited to your wedding rehearsal is probably not going to jump to any weird rear end conclusions and will understand your complicated relationship and long journey to this day. Its only weird because it was aired on a TV show for a bunch of people who don't love Iris and Barry. Like Alex is kind of a funny case because she was kind of really out of place at the wedding so theoretically would have been confused by it and not have the benefit of the doubt built up because she barely knows Barry and Iris. But like, that's just her being the odd man out at an intimate gathering of friends, family, and loved ones. Well, and Mick.
