I really enjoyed this game but I found the sections where the story interferes with your party setup to be unfun. I know party change-ups are a pretty common element of JRPGs, but most JRPGs have tactical combat whereas Xenoblade is more about mastery of execution. So having to relearn combat with a different setup just to get through one chapter or story sequence felt more like a chore to me than a puzzle as it would in a more tactical game. And unlike other frustrating bits, you can't just take a break from the main quest and do other stuff since your party is still hosed up no matter where you go.

Overall though, it's a good game that leaves a strong impression on the music/environment/story side of things

What I mean is, when I played it and heard about "Seven" it made me think about who it could be since if there's a fuss about who it is it's not gonna be someone you haven't seen, and when you think about it that way there's exactly one person in the entire game who it could be so it's easy to figure out far in advance, y'know?

Not really. XC spaces its characters out very well, so there is a large element of doubt as to who they are and what their nature in the story is.

XC2's entire lineup can be identified by a very simple piece of logic; how many people have you actually seen with unique Blades that aren't with Torna?

There's a back door to the city called Theospiti Temple Ruins. Go out and down that way.

THUNDERDOME LOSER 2021
Finished.

I think it's mostly comparable to XC1 in the scope of many things. It has about the same playtime, possibly a sight bit more. Combat is better, Soundtrack is better, story is a mixed bag, but I didn't feel like it was too cliched or predictable. The localization is interesting; I felt, from listening to the Japanese voice over the with English script, that they somehow made the game MORE "anime" than it originally was in some places.

I could probably agree that if this game had the extra polish it needed to fix a few straight-up mind-boggling design choices and shortcomings with regards to menus, interface, and physics it would have matched the first one head on. It definitely feels like they were pressed to meet a deadline, and as a result they missed a few months of QA playtesting and feedback, which could have resulted in numerous quality of life improvements.

Normally yeah, that's how I'd feel if I had gone in without hearing anything. But because of the fuss around "Seven" I felt it was a pretty safe guess not far into the game just because there wasn't anyone else it could be (especially because of the attitude around her identity making it easy to think about the person who had been in my party for all of 20 minutes before "dying").

I got stuck here too, it's kind of a bullshit thing: You go out the back of the city and across the bridges, there's a part where it looks like you're dead-ended by a gap but there's actually a way-too-subtle interactible icicle nearby that you can knock over to cross it.

Because they hate us.

Apparently one of the relevant first four nodes to get to 2 is in an area that doesn't open up until chapter 8, also, I sure as hell haven't gotten far enough to get it.

The more heart to hearts and other conversations I see, the more I really enjoy Tora as a character. It pains me that he's stuck with less blades than the others for so long since it makes me want to use him less. On the other hand, even with only his first two blades, he is still a beastly tank with Topple and Smash, so I guess that's cool.

Also earlier I got to do a 6 orb break chain for the first time and it was incredible.

For the original Xenoblade Chronicles game, this character design artwork simply didn’t exist; all we had were costume designs for the clothing the characters wore. This meant we were forced to create the CG character models to fit those costume designs. And what’s more, the only artwork released of those characters were retouched versions of their CG models – there was no concept art to speak of, not like this at any rate. This exposes one of our shortcomings at Monolith, but for this project, Saito-san (Masatsugu Saito – Main Character Design) and Tek-kun (Tetsuya Nomura – Torna Character Design) covered for and supported us on the character design front, and I’m truly thankful to them for their efforts.

Them planning ahead made it worse

You can instantly find out who your party members are because the blade menu shows you if you look at the rare blade tab. It's just some people wanting to be polite, though a lot of people just kind of drop plot spoilers/locations without tags in this thread so I have no idea what etiquette we're going for.

Like is it a spoiler to say Pandoria loses her goofy cloudly glasses effect?? I have no idea.

In response to losing to those 3 idiots, my highlight moment of the entire game was in chapter 6's end. You defeat Akhos and his idiot party and the cutscene shows them defeated and out of options and holy poo poo for once you won. Then Jin shows up and as soon as his scene is over Akhos has all his weapons back "heh we were never beat :DDD" happens.

Or the most hilarious one in chapter 7 when Malos gets body horror'd and falls off a cliff screaming. He shows up like 2 cutscenes later "haha u didn't win." like come on now.

Early in the game I misread that Akhos dies in chapter 3 and was like god I'm so glad the annoying one is going to be gone. The fact he's still around is upsetting. Who the gently caress even is this idiot.

Poppi is absolutely insanely good. And across her first two forms has access to rare field skills that crop up loving everywhere so Tora never left my party. Also even just a little bit of Tiger Tiger lets you turn Poppi into a fantastic off healer by giving her the art enhancement that makes them all spawn health potions, along with all the best tanking modifiers that no other tank can get together. And you can give her a bunch of good damage modifiers that let her out-damage most of the shittier attacking blades.

Plus her third form gets a launch!
