I dunno if this is the thread for it but I wanna recommend Meet Me in the Bathroom: Rebirth and Rock and Roll in New York City 2001-2011 by Lizzy Goodman.

It's all about The Strokes, LCD Soundsystem, Interpol, and all those great bands that started out in the early 2000s, as well as how Indie Rock/Pop/Electronic grew as a genre in those times. One of those "perfect storm" scenarios and it was a super-duper interesting read. If you hate Ryan Adams, like me, then it's a perfect read because that guy eats it hard during various interviews.

This sounds right up my alley thanks! (Although sounds like it'd be better as a music doc... oh well)

Anna McClellan came through town last night. From Omaha and there are times where I can’t help but draw a comparison to Conor, but it was a really great show and she really brought it.

I haven’t listened to the album I picked up yet, but she played this song last night and I loved it.

I omitted the heavy hitters that have been discussed enough here (Fleet Foxes, Broken Social Scene, War on Drugs, etc.) and realized of the 10, "The Underside of Power" by Algiers was one hell of an outlier compared to the mood of the other stuff, so I left it out too :)

If any Ex Hex fans live in DC, I'm selling my ticket to see them tomorrow night for :10bux:. Sadly, I can't make it. PM me if you're interested.

Edit: Found a buyer, but you should still go see the show! DC's best band, imo

I second this to anyone in the area. I saw then a few years back and they are certainly worth 10 bucks. Super fun indie punk rock.

Betsy Wright the bassist is in Bat Fangs, yeah!

To your first point, the rumor is that Ex Hex is working on a new album. They never called it quits, but they were very quiet last year, and this year, they were busy with a European tour, then Betsy was tied up with Bat Fangs and Mary was doing a Helium tour... What I would guess is this show in their hometown tomorrow is a warm up to get the band back together and test some new material. I am annoyed I can't make it, but, god willing, I'll be able to see them again soon.

Does anyone listen to XMU on Sirius? The content and DJs are generally pretty good, but man are those pre-recorded little blurbs they play between songs super cringey. Like "admit it - you think this station would sound better on vinyl" and "this music isn't for everyone, but that's probably why you like it." There are others that are worse.

This is Sirius XMU, where you gotta be a super weird pretentious hipster to find this totally underground poo poo even remotely listenable

Sirius radio channel IDs are all awful; it's hardly limited to XMU.

I did a free trial for when I went on a 2,000-mile roadtrip this past summer and enjoyed XMU, but again, like a lot of Sirius channels, the rotation is not huge.

XMU is good because it’s the only time I’ve ever had a station that plays my exact wheelhouse of music (I listen to a lot of “popular” indie and usually only catch onto bands just before they break onto a label) but I can’t see myself continuing my subscription past February when it runs out. There’s little else on there that’s worth paying for (news stations can’t beat NPR, most music stations I can just play similar stuff on Spotify) at the price they charge. And they play Shark Smile by Big Thief literally every time I enter my car and I’m so loving sick of that song now.

But they helped me catch onto Japanese Breakfast so it’s not all bad at all. The festival livestreams are nice too.

Yeah, I was really surprised by how the station matches my tastes almost exactly. I'm pretty Pitchfork-basic I guess.

For what it's worth, you can always get 6 months for $30 if you call and threaten to cancel.
