The abuses I suffered from growing up in a very religious area and the continued impact it has on my daily life color my perception of religion more than any philosophical disagreement I have. It's pretty telling how you can have an open dialogue about race, class, or sexuality but the moment someone criticizes a religion or points out the ways it has negatively impacted their lives people have to leap to defend it or attack you. I've never scolded anyone for being religious and I think the Dawkins crowd are assholes.

Liz is a great example of someone who's really good at deflecting justified criticism of her backwards view on lgbtq people and abortion. And that's not realy even going in to the weird tradcaths.
