As a Yankee fan, getting Machado would be overkill. Let Andujar win the job.

Also Brandon Kintzler back to the Nats on a 2/10 deal

Because he was good this year, particularly after being traded to the Rays whose pitching coach we now have. His peripherals were good in 2016, too. Just don't use him as a closer.

Like seriously look at those Rays numbers this year: 1.09 ERA, 2.14 FIP, 0.81 WHIP :eyepop: Only 24 innings but still.

e. Also he got surgery for a hip issue before the 2017 season and looked way better this year afterwards.

It's funny that people blame current voters for being too dependent on WAR since, from the 70s through the early 00s, you could just look at HR/RBI totals and pick the MVP out easily.

Maybe a little but he was a Terry Ryan pick and I trust our current regime over him until they prove me otherwise. Plus he's like 24 and was still in AA.

I guess it is. I also assumed Gose had been on MLB rosters/in MLB games longer than he actually has, which threw me off.

He's the first guy I can remember knowing only from MLB games that I've seen in Rule 5 results.

So the Nick Burdi thing is actually way deeper than I thought. Partially because I forgot he had TJS last season.

https://www.twinkietown.com/2017/12...esota-twins-mlb

quote:

Rule 5 draftees generally have to stay on the claiming team’s major league roster for the entire next season, otherwise the player is returned to their original club. You probably already knew that. What you might not know is that placing a player on the 60-day DL — which is where Burdi will be placed once the season begins — is not a work-around to that roster requirement. Hence, once activated in mid-to-late 2018, Burdi will still have to spend 90 days on the active major league roster — a period of time that will almost certainly spill into the 2019 season.

To keep Burdi permanently, a major league club will have to: A.) use a 40-man roster spot on him for the rest of the offseason before he can be moved to the 60-day DL during the regular season; B.) successfully rehab him from Tommy John surgery; C.) throw him — a pitcher who’s never pitched above Double-A — straight into the majors; and D.) keep him on the major league roster until sometime in early 2019, at the earliest. If there’s any setback in Burdi’s recovery, it’ll just extend the timeline, and Burdi becomes semi-dead weight on the roster for even longer — potentially through two offseasons.

tl;dr - to keep Burdi, the Phillies (or any team that would have drafted him) have to keep him on the MLB roster fresh off of TJS for 90 days even though he's never pitched above AA.

On the plus side for them, I suppose, they probably won't be competing enough for it to matter if they like him enough.

So they're going to sell Cutch, sell Cole, and waste the best years of Taillon's career because the ownership is too cheap to build a team that can compete. Got it.

I'm actually surprised the Yankees didn't lose more guys. Mike Ford was kind of surprising pick since you'd think Seattle would want to promote Vogelbach first, although I see where the Mariners are going with it.

Mainly I'm amazed nobody took Feyereisen or Coshow, they're the kind of fringe ready right now for a bullpen spot guys that usually get snagged.

It's probably not the best indication of the state of the farm that the Cubs left their #9 best prospect unprotected and he wasn't chosen, but I'm legit glad we get to hang on to Clifton. He was fantastic in 2016 before running into a fairly textbook "oh hey AA is actually loving hard" roadblock this year, but he's a command/control guy with mid-rotation upside who I think can get over it.

As of the midseason Baseball America rankings, the Cubs didn't have a single player in the Top 100, so ... yeah, things are going to be a bit rough in the minors for a while.

Well, it's not the Phillies problem anymore, they apparently already traded him to the Pirates for international slot money.
