The Plagues were a good time, and the Beaked Mask is both a treasured reminder and a powerful symbol.

I was forgotten. I will be remembered.

You are woken up in the middle of the night by someone pounding on the door to your home. Opening it, you interrupt an infrequent acquaintance of yours in mid knock.

It's Nick the Greek. A small time corner runner for one of the three largest crime families in Valitnia. "Heeeeeeey man. Glad you're up. Your astynomía, your p pinched our shipment of yellow sunshine. But you. You're the man. You can hook us up, yah? This is a big opportunity for me. It could be my ticket to the top. You help me here, and I'll let the big bosses know who saved our asses by making us 500 kilos of acid."

Nick the Greek peers around your tall frame curiously. "Hey, you know, I ain't never been in your house before. Nice digs, hey, how about you show me around since we're going to be partners and all. I want to see where you're going to make it."

You are at a fabulous party. The sort of thing you attend several times a week to socialize and cut deals with your fellow CEOs. "So, godling, what do you think of the party?"

You turn and find yourself face to face with the former head of AtlantiComm. "Oh, yes, I know what you are. I can smell it all over you. That explains how you managed to outmaneuver me and sweep Motoroza out of my hands. I should have figured it out sooner really, but when you're a few centuries old it gets hard to keep track of all the new blood. You should join us. We're more powerful than you know. Toe the line over the Motoroza deal and I'll introduce you around to the real powers and dominions. What do you say? Buddies?" He offers you his hand and smiles threateningly.

But it's not as though many of these people believed in anything else, either. The Old Gods rarely got more than lip service, and in many cases got even less than that. So their calls to Sygyzy might have been piddly, worthless little wisps of Faith... but they were more powerful than any other Faith that might have been hiding in their hearts.

You know half of this stuff isn't internally consistent, right?"

Masie keeps her computer in a closet ever since you started manifesting out of it. You hear the front door slam shut and then she slams the closet door open too. At least as much as you can slam a closet door. She looks like she's had a bad day at work.

"I can't believe you're still here! You've been living in my closet all week! When are you going to do something? Shouldn't you be out, I don't know, blessing the faithful or cursing stupid CEOs? The least you could do is help pick up a bit. Yes, I know you don't have hands, but you're a god. Figure it out!"

You ask her what happened at work today and she seems to deflate. "I really thought I was going to get the promotion to CTO, but they brought in some stupid male monkey in a suit to do it. Didn't even have the decency to tell me themselves. I only found out when I saw him moving his stuff into his office. And moving his compute out. Jerk says all he needs is his stupid smartphone."

It's just another normal day at work. You're not sure why you still bother coming in, habit you guess. Except today, something interesting happens. A stranger is walking towards your managers office but stops beside you to ask the time.

"Really? That early? I've got time then thanks." Nobody else seems to have noticed, but it's immediately obvious to you that the guy has a pistol in a shoulder holster, hidden by his suit. Even when he smiles and thanks you, his eyes are empty and dead and look right though as if you don't matter. As if nothing matters to him. He detours towards the men's restroom.

Now you're in a fancy ballroom or something with lots of fancily dressed people. Some of them look like they might want to chase you out for being so shabbily dressed, but hey, you're here now and the food is... okay... you guess. Her teacher was so deliciously hypocritical, and vicariously feeling it through the tears of the child was blissful. But still, he did have a certain fondness for the girl, and flavouring that hypocrisy with either guilt or deliberate self-imposed ignorance would be as a cherry atop a veritable sundae of false faith. So, walking the line between feigning sympathy and actually being sympathetic so that even he couldn't say which it was, he advised her,

"My dear girl, do you really, truly believe in your heart of hearts that that is what will happen? I'll let you into a little secret: She has some piercings of her own. Some of them are very naughty. Now, you and I have no way to know that, of course, but it is nonetheless completely true. As with all truths, be careful with it."

OLD MAN YELLS AT CLAN
Milton "Wally" Simmons

Milton thoughtfully chewed a chilled prawn and drank a scotch and soda from a solo cup. Not they served drinks in solo cups at a posh gathering like this. More the sort of place that would turn up the nose at the thought of it. But Milton always seemed to have a solo cup when he needed one, so he ordered his drink from a bartender that barely seemed to notice him and dumped into the familiar red plastic. The prawn, though, was thoroughly average.

He stared at the uncomfortable looking middle eastern man, watched him shuffle his feet uneasily. Whoever he was talking to must make him very nervous. Milton wondered why so he threaded his way over to the two, leaving a mostly eaten prawn on the tray on a passing server. Neither of them noticed him at first, which was par for the course when it came to him, until he spoke up.

"Dude," he said to the the older man. "There's something in your eye."

Just playing off the picture of the evil EA eyes. :v:

"Little by little the old world crumbled, and not once did the king imagine that some of the pieces might fall on him"

Edea Mater

Edea mater thought it rather annoying. She tried to avoid these face to face matters. Being surrounded by all of these useless born-rich parasites makes it that much harder to hide her contempt for them. She'd grown somewhat accustomed to it, but it still took some effort.

"I think you've picked the right time. The current administration is very eager to see more jobs created. I don't expect the EPA to do more than a perfunctionary check."

That's Cruelty there. He's big in the media these days A lot of communication. We don't really intersect all that much.

"I'll take precautions of course. I wouldn't want you to have to suffer another PR nightmare. But I should be able to remain within the normal budgetary limits."

And there is Beauty, showing off the latest from her clothing line. Not very original for her to go into fashion and modeling, but she seems to do well enough at least.

"We're looking into some cutting edge technology that should cut months of the construction time. Automotization should reduce the chance of human error causing any harm."

And that music. I know that song and, yes, that is one of the Muses playing the piano there. Which probably means that the CEO of Divine Records is here as well.

As far as gods go, she was actually a relatively little fish in this pond. Plenty of gods manage to find their niche in this human society, and get to the top. She supposed it satisfied them to rule over mankind, even if they had to pretend to be among them. If she played harder, if she had tried to keep the oil to themselves, maybe she could have gotten one of those 'top seats' herself. But that was never what she was about. Of course, it meant that those gods might very well object to her projects. Preferring to live as a king in this luxurious world, rather than a god in the wilderness.

"Ms. Mater?"

Why are so many of them here today? Considering the high levels they're working on, it's not that unusual for them to cross paths, but is this a scheme of someone? Or is Fate perhaps spinning something. Not to mention her powers that are returning."

"Ms. Mater?"

She blinked. She'd gotten distracted. She chided herself silently and put a finger at the side of her head. "I'm sorry Mr Chandler. I was...." She looked for an excuse. "just wondering about the figure there. Is he some kind of new IT-CEO that's flaunting his status?"

She looked at the slovenly figure that is currently interfering with... oh dear.

Spider-Man's Amazing Construction Company
Sygyzy, God Of Telecommunication

"You know, for a High Priestess you're not very respectful," mutters Sygyzy - without heat, or anger. If anything he actually seems amused. He is, after all, supposedly a fairly light-hearted God; he's read the Scriptures that say so, and he's trying to fit them. "And besides, what makes you think I'm not pitching in? You streamed half a season of that baking show you like last night and you didn't lag out once, right?"

The faintly-glowing, translucent image that Sygyzy has chosen as his avatar stands and stretches - not that he needs to, but it's the thing to do, what with trying to set Maisie at ease and all. Mortal men and women are strange to him - stranger than data transmission, at least, which is really quite straightforward once you know your stuff - but now that he's Manifested, he's probably going to have to spend time around them. Why does he feel like Manifested deserves a capital letter? Well, he supposes he's always had an interesting relationship with capitalization. At any rate, he's trying, that seems to be the point.

Once Maisie's had her moment of deflation and explained what's really bothering her, Sygyzy brightens a bit. No, seriously, he literally gets a few lumens brighter. "Oh, that's easy; we'll just - well, I'll just, really - make sure he doesn't get any of the info he needs. That's the thing about smartphones, they drop packets like nobody's business if I decide they do. Plus they're always coming out with new ones and the networking updates, well, they never seem to go smoothly, do they? Oh, plus I can always redirect a whole bunch of porn his way by messing with his network settings." There's a pause. "'Course, that would mean I'd have to stop him from knowing stuff that could hurt the company until he gets fired. Would you be okay with that? I'm only really used to doing this sort of thing because I feel like it, not because I'm trying to actually accomplish anything. Accomplishing things is new for me. Where's the, you know, the whimsy in it?

"I'll tell you what," the God continues, "I can do this thing, If you're okay with it, I mean. But we're seriously going to have to work on spreading the faith a bit - with a nice solid consistent message this time - or else I'm going to just end up haunting your computer and bugging you for a while. Whatcha think?"

Mekhistos

Acid. The slang name for Ω-triptamycinic acid, a nifty little hallucinogen Mekhistos had created when his powers first started returning, inspired by the stuff the oracles of Akadaimo used to communicate with the gods.
"Nick, a quick word of advice if we're going to be partners: you may be good at selling the stuff, but you are rubbish when it comes to making it. Half a ton of acid would be enough supply for this whole continent, and extremely impractical to store to boot. We'll make 25 kilos of it, and it will be enough to cover the city for a couple of months. Besides, it doesn't do to store the product for longer than that, starts losing potency."

Mekhistos steps away from the threshold, inviting Nick inside. "While I appreciate your belief in my abilities, I could use another pair of hands. Follow me." He leads Nick to a room downstairs, where small purplish mushrooms grow in stacked pellets. "Put mask and gloves on, and only do what I tell you to do. Don''t touch anything unless instructed. The work will take most of the night, then it has to crystallize for a couple hours, so I think that you'll have a sample by tomorrow at noon."

Half-jokingly she retorts: "You know, for a divine being, you're not very useful."

A very slight pause, and then Sygyzy chuckles quietly. "Well, that's true. But hey, you're one of the people whose faith created and sustains me, so really, it's at least a little bit your fault, Maisie."

This was a well-known trait of Sygyzy's amongst his "faithful" - he was an inveterate smartass, but he was willing to poke fun at himself if it was warranted. The Parable of the Dropped Call reflected as much.

At any rate, he ponders it a bit more. "Less self-centered, huh? I'll see what I can do. But when you cash in that paid time off and take that trip to the tropics you keep thinking about, you're gonna set aside a day to do some preaching. I mean, it's only fair. Besides, the more people who embrace the faith," and here he pointedly does not add 'such as it is,' which is pretty well understood by all and sundry at this point, "the more powerful I'll get and the better bennies I can hook you up with down the road."

Having made this pronouncement, Sygyzy starts to pace back and forth while adopting an expression of thoughtfulness, just as he did in the Parable of the Mischievous Router. He doesn't need to, but according to the Canon he's supposed to, which in practice sort of means he needs to. Until he has a broader pool of belief to draw strength from, he figures it's probably safest to meet expectations. As his Divine Power begins to manifest, his form takes on a bluish sheen for a moment...

Going to use Telecommunications [+2] to give this new CTO the Curse of Graciousness - that is to say, he will find his network connectivity spotty and disobedient unless and until he does something nice and gracious, such as complimenting the work of one of his subordinates or paying someone a sincere compliment, at which point his network access will be restored for the next few hours. This shouldn't interfere with his company too badly - if he's in the office someone can always run over to his office to tell him what needs fixing, and Sygyzy will be kind enough to ensure that any business-critical communications get through (well, business-critical to Sygyzy's POV, which means anything having to do with the company's network infrastructure), but it will definitely inconvenience anyone who's as clearly glued to his smartphone as this dude seems to be. How long it takes the guy to figure it out is anyone's guess, mind...

You know what, given the various smartass remarks being tossed around between he and his High Priestess, I think I'll also have Sygyzy tap into his drawback of No One Takes Him Seriously for an additional +2, because I think it's fitting and also because I'm not familiar with the mechanic and trying it will be the best way to get comfortable with it. :D

Drink in hand, he collected his thoughts near the piano and its charming musician. Watching her work was calming, letting the music settle over him from a respectful distance was a reprieve.

He smiled back when she glanced at him, raising his drink in an appreciative salute. Small flashes of insight continued to spark across his vision, her necklace, her earrings. He'd always been good at appraisals, able to spot the fakes and forgeries among the street markets of the cities he visited. But this was something more. Godling.

"I'm going bloody insane." He followed his muttered epithet with two hard gulps, finishing up his cocktail - glancing side-wise at the nearest other party goer, a raven-haired woman with keen eyes and a impressive strength of personality, an Enronm exec at her side.

Now she wondered what Cruelty had been so interested in with the Bearded Platinum coast man. She noticed he'd scoped her out too. She nodded at the bartender. "Some Helladian wine if you have it." She looked at the bearded man. "That was quite a scene there. I don't believe we've met. Edea Mater, CEO of Mater mining."

This time he doesn't hesitate in politely offering his hand with the introduction. His head tilts in the direction of Savage, but he doesn't actually look that way. "Yes - I'm up to my ears in the AtlantiComm split. People are mobilized, naturally, but I'm surprised one of the hoi polloi managed to get an invitation here. Still, it saved me from an awkward conversation. Perhaps I owe the protester one, all things considered."

He gently plucks a champagne flute from a passing server. "Regardless, it's a lovely venue tonight. The piano player is simply enchanting."

Between us, I think it was a bit of a family arrangement there. Shame, but we've managed to find work elsewhere. The advantage of specialization is that within your own area, you do get a reputation."

She nods at the mention of the split issue. "Aaah, I read something about that. Hah, be careful with that. Mr. Savage and I have had some dealings in the past, and he's not a good man to make an enemy of. A terribly creative mind at times. Fortunately, we're in different branches, so I don't tend to get in his way. As to the protesters, it's quite refreshing to have someone else be the target. I'm afraid I have to deal with them on a somewhat regular basis."

"And yes, the piano player is quite lovely. She used to be even better if you can believe it."

Yes, yes it is.

He held his rifle close, pressed against the broke pile of rubble that separated him from the forces of the Regime. He looked both left and right, to his surviving militants on either side, nodding to each in turn.

"You see how they fear us, brothers? Twice our number, and a tank besides. And they are right to fear us, for we have the strength of righteousness on our side!" He pointed his rifle over the rubble without bothering to aim, spraying a burst to give the oncoming soldiers pause.

"Today we are tested, my brothers. Will give your lives to the cause? Or will you perish like dogs?"

He drew his knife from its sheath.

"Long live the fighters!"

Then he was over the wall, his rifle singing.

He unconsciously blinked a few times, remembering the icons in Savage's eyes. This isn't jet lag.

The real power behind countless overlords

Veränderung - FP: 0

The Commander of the Nuradan Central Government's tank had his hatch open, the better to pick Veränderung's revolutionaries out from the rubble of what used to be a village. With his first shot, Veränderung made him pay for bravery. The bullet tore through his throat and he collapsed forward, blood fountaining down the front of the turret. Without their commander to spot for them, the tank crew were limited in what they could see through the scratched glass of the tank's decades old sights.

The tank's first shot fell far short of Veränderung, blowing a hole in the ground the tank lumbered into and then back out of, still coming on. The next shot went wide, somewhere. Before they could get a third shot off, Veränderung had leaped onto the tank. Yanking the former tank commander out through his still open hatch, Veränderung slithered inside. A few bloody seconds later, the tank ground to a halt. The professional rebel the only man still living inside it.

Inspired by his example, the over rebels fired wildly as they charge into knife range and the government conscripts, who'd been trained to face bullets, not cold steel, abandoned their positions and ran.

The way things were headed, the teacher would likely be fired soon.

Meanwhile, Jana was surprised that the accusations were true, or at least, had worked either way. She now trusts Eliam just a little bit and is wondering what other useful secrets he might know.

Maisie says she's having a heard time not laughing where he can hear her after suggesting that he should try being nice to his phone. Everyone knows electronics don't handle being banged against the desk so much well. He's on his third phone know, which pretty neatly eliminates any possibility she could be sabotaging it.

All really critical information is being transmitted over sneakernet (face-to-face); which means most of the senior staff has been treated to his increasingly unpleasant personality. Its only a matter of time before he takes his temper out on the wrong person and the company is looking for a new CTO again.

Spider-Man's Amazing Construction Company
Sygyzy, God Of Telecommunication
Fate Points = 1

Now, Sygyzy could just let matters run their course. Maybe Maisie will actually get the CTO job once this guy is given the boot! Except... the fact that they hired him to begin with is a pretty clear indication that they're not searching for the best talent and the sharpest minds; some old boys' club action is obviously at work here, with the people in charge of hiring clearly desiring more "management skills and knowing the right people" and less "knowing what the hell you're actually doing," and while Maisie is a fine High Priestess, she's not exactly a people person, and she'll never be gracing the cover of Forbes.

So maybe "sit back and hope for the best" isn't the right move.

So Sygyzy moves his consciousness back into the Realm Of Telecomms - the network of cables and cellular connections and LANs and wireless links that make so much of what we might term 'modern life' possible, and scans through the various networking requests until he finds the CTO trying to activate his newest phone - at which point he disconnects the guy from any call to his service provider and causes the phone display to show his face.

"Hi! Having a rough week, huh? Plum promotion not working out for you?" He pauses, then, waiting for the inevitable shock/disbelief/anger response to play out, before continuing in a patient, even gentle tone. "I get it. But I'm here to help you, Paul."

(I have unilaterally decided that the guy's name is Paul)

"This isn't a ransomware attack, it isn't a prank, it isn't any of the stuff you think it is, Paul. It's a sign. It's divine intervention. I know, I know, I probably wouldn't believe it either if I was in your shoes, but it's at least as likely as you being the victim of some kind of unprecedented string of malfunctions for the past week, right? So listen up, bucko. Sygyzy says be nice. The nicer you are, the more luck you'll have with technology. Also, if you don't start being nice in the next few days I'm going to send the logs of every porn site you've ever visited to your social media accounts. I mean, I don't judge, man, you get your rocks off where you like, but I don't think you want your Mom looking at the list of videos you watched on SpankBank.biz, right? So stop being such a dick and see how that works out for you.

"Oh, and don't worry. I already put in a request for a new replacement phone, it should be here in an hour or so."

And then Sygyzy vanishes from the screen - as does everything else, forever, as a soft *pop* accompanies the wisps of smoke emerging from the phone's battery cover. At least he didn't make it burst into flames or anything.

Using Magic Blue Smoke [+4, mortal] to fry the guy's latest phone after giving him a Stern Talking-To. Who knows? Maybe he'll shape up. Maybe he'll freak out and go to therapy. Maybe he'll just keep being a dick and start firing people, anything is possible. But no one can say I didn't give him every opportunity!

Marcus freezes for a second, he had never even considered the possibility he might have to pull the trigger himself, he fights to keep from blanching at the prospect, instead screwing up his face in a mask of contempt. "Yes, I should definitely walk to the office in front of a bunch of witnesses who know who I am and blow my boss away, that is definitely an excellent idea." he replies sarcastically. "Do you think I'm an idiot? You know what, I don't think you fully grasp just who your loving with." With a thought he wills the outstretched gun to fall apart in the hitman's hand, the weapon would disintegrate into each and every component part, a fate share by his holdout pistol.

Once it was done, Marcus stepped back, the fear and anger fading down enough that he can adopt a faux-conversational tone, seeming as though the obviously supernatural effect he just worked was an absolutely everyday occurrence. "I'm feeling magnanimous, so I am going to give you another chance. I'm going to walk back to my desk, and you're going to pick up your mess and leave. I will make a reservation at Julia's down on 5th Avenue this evening," he spouted out the name of a not too expensive restaurant he'd been to a couple of times, one with more than enough privacy to meet with the hitman, "the reservation will be under the name of Marcus. If you want a second chance to make a proper first impression, and you do, you should come alone and sit down at my table. I think you'll find that for a man in your profession, there is nothing better in the world than being on my good side, and nothing that will make your life more hellish than being on my bad side." He paused for effect, his every action, word, and tone trying to project the image that he was a man of unimaginable power, someone to be wooed and appeased, not trifled with. It was helpful, of course, that in some sense this was entirely true, but still it was not something he was truly experienced as being and so he needed to fake it until he could make it. "Today is the pivot point for you. If you play your cards right you will remember this day as the first day of the best days of your life. Otherwise, well..." he leaves the consequences of displeasing him unsaid but obviously undesirable.

"Oh, and one more thing, don't ever point a gun at me again, or it'll be the last thing you ever do." Marcus turns and begins to walk away his heart beating like a freight train, shocked at his own audacity. Despite his shock and anxiety and fear, he would definitely not be late to the restaurant this evening. This was maybe the beginning of a new chapter for him, one he couldn't afford to pass up.

Marcus is using Guns[+2] to thoroughly destroy the hitman's guns as a demonstration of his power, and Fast Talker[+2] to try and convince the hitman that Marcus is a power that he cannot resist, and that it is life-essential to him to suck up to Marcus and get in his good books lest doom come crashing down on him.

OLD MAN YELLS AT CLAN
Milton "Wally" Simmons FP = 1

Milton breathes a sigh of relief as Cruelty storms past, once again ignoring him just like everyone else is. Good, it was better that way, nobody looking at him and his untucked Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and flip flops. Although his clothing was tailored to his tastes, the beach scene on the back of the shirt had a floating couch and TV, one of Milton's goals, it still looked sloppy. Not that he cared about his appearance beyond the fact that well tailored clothing felt better to wear, he just didn't like the attention.

After a minute or two at the spread of food loading up a plate like it was a last meal, Milton made his way over to the middle eastern man he seen talking to the suit. Next to him was a rather striking older woman that for some reason made him unconsciously run his hand over his hair in an attempt to smooth it down. An attempt that failed, of course. His hair cared as little about how it looked as Milton usually did.

As he siddled up to the two he realized they were still ignoring him. That was fine, as the baklava was delicious, but after sucking the last of the honey from his fingers he spoke up. "That guy was kind of a prick, eh? Thinking he looked all spiffy in that thousand dollar suit from ten years ago or something. Like a bad movie villain, really. I half expected that if you had actually shaken his hand he'd have sucked out your soul or something. Just slurp, burp, and you're his. Hah!"

You focus your will on the gun. You know it intimately. You are simultaneously aware of every individual spring, lever, bolt, and slide. It starts coming apart according to your desire but it feels like someone is tearing your fingers off. One by one. The pain is overwhelming. The assassin looks properly freaked out and takes the opportunity provided by your incapacitation to run the gently caress away from his disintegrating gun and the weirdo office worker.

When the pain fades enough that you can think straight again, the only thing left in the bathroom is a pile of parts that none of your coworkers would recognize as having once been a gun. Coming in through the door is a smartly dressed young man who looks like he is perpetually angry.

A confused looking assassin hurries past you. Most wouldn't recognize him as such in his nice suit, but your father made sure you know a killer when you see one. You follow the discord to its source. You dreamwalk into a rather personal dream of Mila's and her belly button piercing is clearly visible. She struggle to gather the remnant of her dignity about herself. "Who are you?" She looks around at the fading wisps of her dream "Where am I?"

Mekhistos

Good news, finally. Having many people partake of substances he made with his own hands would be welcome sustenance, even if they did so without fully realizing to who they owed their chemical bliss. He'd need more active devotees if he was to regain his power and standing, however. A criminal gang was as good a starting point as any. "Nick, what do you think your boss would give to someone who could give him assured victory in that little gang spat of his?"
"A lot. If we could crush the Redarms and the Westies we'd be the undisputed rulers of this city. If you did that for us, you could name your price. But you'd have to really deliver. The bosses, they don't like wise guys. And wise guys don't crack wise twice too many times. Not saying I doubt you can do what you say you can. I just don't want you getting in trouble and coming back at me cause I didn't warn you. You know what I mean. You want, I can set up a meeting for you?"

EXCEED CHARGE
Marcus Seward
FP = 0

As Marcus peels himself from the floor, he realizes he's not alone. From the look of the man, he appears to be some sort of VIP. drat it, this was the last thing he needed. Thinking fast he tries to play this off as an accident, "Sorry, I must have just fainted. You know how it is with accountants at tax time, pulling too many all nighters. I think I'm going to take the rest of the day and get some rest."

He moved towards the door. He needed some time to figure out what happened and what that terrifying pain had meant.

Marcus is going to try and Fast Talk [+2] his way out of the situation.

SWORD OF SMATTAS. CAN YOU NOT HEAR A WORLD CRY OUT FOR JUSTICE? WHEN WILL YOU DELIVER IT?
Yam Slacker
Eliam, God of Religion FP:0

A gesture to strengthen the dream, to keep the shock from waking her just yet.

"You are dreaming, and I bring you tidings which you will find it useful to remember when you awaken. See before you, arrayed, your accusers, those who stand in judgement with your livelihood in the balance."

Another gesture, and their physical visages appear, unflattering, warts and all portrayals laid bare before her across her psyche.

"Witness their hypocrisy, know their sinful nature, nothing more than whitewashed tombs who pretend at piety."

He clicks his fingers, and in a wave, their piercings are highlighted in idolatrous gold upon their forms, all accurate in placement.

"Know that this is the truth, their false self-righteousness and sanctimony on display."

Religiosity +2 and Firebrand Orator +4 to embolden her with the truth, to further set the cat among the pigeons.

Tariq al-Masayir, the Novus Fortuna Fate Points = 0

Tariq lets the other man field that answer before him, buying him some time to... wait - had he disappeared again?

Regretting not having grabbed a new drink, he responds, taking a chance. "Actually, yes. Something like that - just a... new kind of focus. A honing in on certain things, as if they're trying to grab my attention." He frowns, not satisfied with that. "No, that's not exactly right. Not that they are alive in any sense. More like my instincts are telling me to take a closer look."

This time he does catch another server going by, swapping out his empty champagne glass. Off the defensive in struggling for an answer, he contemplates the rest of her description, brows furrowed, "How long have you been affected, exactly? Is there a treatment?"

I can show you what endless looks like
I can show you a single infinite thing
I can let you taste the sweet and sour of forever
Unending. Eternal. Inevitable
Taste my darkness
Climb into my abyss
Fall into me. Into my eyes
Look at them. Depths unfathomable
Pain immeasurable
A cruel promise fulfilled

Jon confidently smiled back at the receptionist. Upon feeling the disturbance- -=Correction=- the screaming beacon that was the disturbance he excused the himself politely momentarily to go use the restroom. If this was dad's doing there would be hell to pay. Messing around in his business was not something Jon tolerated well.

He burst into the enclosed space as the assassin rushed past. 'Not one of his or father's' he thought. His anger sort of faded as the groaning man got to his feet, made some flimsy excuse and started to leave. Jon smiled pleasantly, he could do that on command and let the man pass. "Of course, no worries. Take care of yourself and try not to push yourself too hard."

When the man had gone, Jon reached down and touched the pile of parts. He looked back towards the door but the man and assassin were long gone. He concentrated on the pile of components, if anything was to be learned here or if this was another of father's plots he would try and sift through the information.

If not, well he did have a meeting to catch.

Using: Discord [+2], concentrating on the focal point(parts) of the disturbance. If nothing is to be found or gleaned he will move on to his meeting.
