Enter The Gungeon is great on Switch, holy poo poo. Is it not made by the same team that did Binding of Isaac? The art looks really similar.

Nope, completely different devs. Gungeon took a lot of inspiration from BoI (and improved on it in a lot of ways IMHO) but it’s distinct enough to set itself apart from its predecessor.

My only request would be to get rid of the “aim with right stick, shoot with trigger” in favor of BoI’s face button shooting but as I play more Gungeon the better I get at stick aiming.

Also the default controller config sucks out loud, I rebound dodge to LT/Shoot to RT/Item to LB/Map to RB and I’ve been MUCH happier. Also Blank to left stick only, though I have activated it a few times accidentally.

edit: Mario Kart is still great when you have company

Unless you're playing ARMS, go for the Pro Controller. I don't mind using JoyCons, but the right thumbstick WILL get in the way of pressing buttons in hectic moments.

Yeah the default controls are trash, having to aim while shooting all on the right joycon was completely unintuitive. I pull roll to RZ, shoot to LZ, map to R and item to L and it's much better. It'd definitely be nice if you could auto shoot simply by tilting aim like in BoI but it works out in the end.

Kiss the Joycon to Kiss Zelda

I only spent a few minutes with Gungeon but it feels awkward to aim with the right stick and shoot with R on the Pro Controller. I may need to remap the controls, the Shoot button at the very least.

Also one weird thing, before I started I went into the options and the Controls screen was (at least partly) in Spanish. I went back into Gameplay and reset everything (the language was still set to English though, and everything else was). When I went back into Controls, it was all in English.

It's interesting to me how many people have a negative first impression of the joycon. I mean I did too, but I'm at the point now where I'd rather play on separated joycon, sans strap, than any other controller. The ability to do whatever with your arms is just too clutch. And I have never had a cramp with them - those who do, I think you are gripping them too tightly.

The pro controller is fine but it almost feels like a third party cheapo controller imo. Not worth the high price when I could instead buy another set of joycon.

Am I the only one that doesn't want to play this with the touchscreen? I guess I hadn't tried docked but couldn't find a way when in handheld mode to control it with the sticks. Picross on the 3DS worked really well with the stylus/touchscreen but I don't think the touchscreen on the Switch is great for clicking tiny boxes one by one with my finger :(

I just downloaded the demo and you can use the joycons.

I also rebound my controls in Gungeon... shoot with ZR, dodge roll with ZL, switch weapons with L and R... makes a world of difference. I don't know how they settled on the terrible default control scheme that they did.

I tested in handheld mode and it worked, in fact one of the pages in the tutorial (the INFO button) shows the controls.

If stamina breaking annoys the crap out of you, take God of Destruction's Anger. It's a Ki Blast super with good damage that also inflicts a heavy stamina break on hit. The stamina break it does tends not to last very long, but so long as you immediately follow it up with an ultimate, you are basically guaranteed to connect.

There are also a few Ultimates which activate so quickly they give no time to dodge, though not many (for obvious balance reasons.) Kaioken Kamehameha X4, Maiden Burst, and Justice Kick are all too fast to dodge if you fire them off during a combo (for the last two) or at the end after you've knocked them away (for the x4). Justice Kick also has really good damage and is without a doubt one of the best Strike ultimates, if you're specced for that.

TQ is the closest thing to it for the time being though.

Loved making trap-specialist Rogues. Slow as hell when starting out but hilarious by the end of the first difficulty or so. One boss could be cheesed with them entirely.

It's kind of lovely that the switch version is normally $40 and the xbox and ps4 versions will be $30 new, so $24 is considered a deal. :v:

I feel like the odds of a major Diablo 3 anything is vanishingly low, given that for the first time since release D3 had literally nothing for Blizzcon.

The D3 team is probably where they send the HotS devs who complain about doing nothing but making skins, until they apologize and beg to come back

At this point the only thing they could really do with D3 is add the old classes like they did with the Necro or just go to D4 which seems more likely.

Either that or a new expac with some new tilesets, but yeah I'm betting the necro didn't sell well enough to justify them spending dev power on D3 vs. their other IPs.

I play like every metroidvania I can get my hands on because it's my favorite genre, and I still hate UnEpic. The combat was shallow and frustrating, with some really annoying gimmick bosses. The metroidvania aspects were weak as hell; it's basically a linear game with door keys, but makes you backtrack repeatedly so that it can pretend to be a metroidvania. I don't care about story/script in games, but UnEpic's is real bad.

I would play hollow Knight an infinite number of times before playing UnEpic, basically.

Oh right I scrolled past this and forgot to reply

UnEpic is decent but I'm kind of :nallears: on it, about 4-5 major bosses in and (by the exploration %) about 50% done with the game.

The upshot:
- It's a platformer, fairly Castlevania-esque-- static map, static loot from chests, mobs (seem to) have loot tables with % drops of various types of gear
- D&D-inspired character sheet, you get skill points when you level up and choose stats to put points into
- In order to use a given weapon/magic/potion crafting recipe, you have to have enough points in the Sword/Mace/Fire Magic/Potion Crafting stat
- You can't respec on a whim, I believe that in a given run there's a possible two respec items you can get and one of them is probably impossible to get the currency for on your first run

The irritating stuff
- Magic schools are granted piecemeal over time and you can't get spells or put points into those schools until you've hit the plot beat for them
- Mobs respawn, it seems to be something like the last 3-4 rooms stay empty but after that point everything is back
- You're not going to get enough stat points to be able to use all of the best gear you come across randomly
- Every ranged attack uses a consumable of some type, magic requires dust that you either have to buy or get from mobs

I'm running out the door so I'll come back to this, probably, but the upshot is that I feel pretty strongly like I'm going to get fed up partway through this first run, have to wait awhile to get un-fed-up and then start a new run fresh so I don't gently caress stuff up
