I think about this every time Citizens compare SC to Elite or any other released game.

This is exactly what happens. My favorite part is when you point out "You're comparing what Star Citizen hopes to one day maybe be, compared to a game that is actually started AFTER Star Citizen, released, and has added more content..." they just find another angle to double down. Or they tell you "You don't understand game development!"

No...I probably don't understand the finer points. Frontier clearly does though, that's why they released a game and have made more money now than Star Citizen has. Mmmkay, bye Felicia.

and only costs $7.50 on Steam and is on anyone with VR's 'must have' list because it's amazing especially with HOTAS/joysticks and to that end, FDev had the foresight to not to cave and cater to the kbm mountain dew/dorito shooter crowd like basically every other spacegame ever made

with a full setup it is pretty drat good. The downside to me is the time to travel/jumps and the grind. I get there needed to be some but man I think it is a little much for those who play single payer games.
