Young Freud posted:

The thing that gets me about the tank, other than the size, is that it's rather conventional. It's not like a hovertank or anti-grav tank. It's not a walking tank or mecha, it's just an oversized tank four times bigger than an M1 Abrams because they couldn't bother to alter their animations or just make the loving thing one-manned.

I loved me some Renegade Legion back in the day and the thing I remember about them is that the gravtanks did orbital insertions, because they're flying tanks that don't have to worry about atmosphere to propel themselves, so they had theoretically unlimited ceilings and could "fly" in space. If you're doing future tanks, especially in a far future space empire settings, have them do that poo poo.

I do agree that the most grating aspect is found in its total failure to adhere to the flimsy yet consistent universe that they've laid out so far. Because CIG hadn't sold a tank yet everything in this game revolved around two things: Air threats and infantry. Troops are dropped from orbit and spaceships shoot you from the skies. Because we've conquered space. Every major war we've read about to date has involved space superiority being wiped out and followed by a surgical strike to remove a key governing agent or orbital barrages. If you own space tanks are not an issue. There's not a lot of ways around that.

If the thing was designed to drive around the ground and shoot the ever living poo poo out of anything that flies then, sure, you've got something that maybe will work in your game with elements that don't exist yet and can hypothetically have some kind of presence in a game that's supposed to be about spaceships running around.

But it's not. It's just a cold war era tank that we still produce to fight countries that can't wipe out all of your tanks with missiles and aircraft in boring 'ol modern times. They have to stress that despite every indication it can probably fight things that fly because pretty much everything else you can pick up with cold hard cash is a magical interstellar spaceboat. You know it's hosed when they're advertising how good it is at something that should be a tertiary concern at best. Who wants to drive slowly across the ground hoping you find someone else stupid enough to buy a tank.

It's dumb on pretty much every level. It lacks imagination or vision. It's not fun or cool. You're asking me to believe that someone who wakes up every morning thrilled out of his socks that he gets to build this insane future spaceman spiff universe where people are zapping one another on alien worlds and he gets to design that universe with nearly unlimited funds and a team of extremely talented artists and you end up with a lovely triangle that probably has a bathroom?

Star Citizen sucks.

idk why they have a shooting range on a space ship

it seems like a really bad idea to be firing off bullets in a pressurized environment

Can someone explain to me how the devs are constantly getting lost on this ship? It's two long corridors to either side of the centre row of rooms, and some stairs and a couple of rooms off to either side. I love how hosed up this ship layout is. You have two tiny engineering room that are the size of the lifts, and the component storage is on a different level. Yet there is a shooting range taking up heaps of room, and a heap of empty space to accommodate the impractical hull shape. Also twelve escape pods for a crew of twenty eight? I hope they fit more than two people...

The whole thing is just :psyduck:

There's always been something in the art style of this game that's bugged me and I think I just figured it out. This fictional future society has no art. Every single structure and vehicle is some kind of stainless steel box put together without any cohesive aesthetic principle. Even in the areas inhabited by people there's nothing but shiny surfaces and maybe an official wall stencil or big benny ad. There's none of the assorted stuff that people make, buy or collect on their day to day lives.

That's because the couple times they've done that (top deck of the Retaliator, old Cutlass) it's been a disaster. There's not enough granularity or control in the way your bald spaceman drunkenly Kramers around the world they've made so if they don't make the rooms big and the "stuff" far apart it feels impossible to get around or do anything. It's why there's a Grand Ballroom style staircase in the Starfarer, instead of like ladders.

Going upstairs in my Retaliator was what convinced me CIG had no loving clue what they were doing.

It is awesome. This is the type thing that has kept me reading this thread for years. There is more talent and experience in this thread than in the totality of Robert Space's 17 shell companies.

Actual developers, writers, lawyers, filmakers in this thread, all watching this disaster artist burn through hundreds of millions while his cult like followers pour their life savings into his blackened maw. All the while they screech, 'you don't understand game/writing/film development' at the world.

Not once have I ever seen anything beyond Ads Adama's disturbed chops from these fuckwits with such a deep understanding of game development. He is the cults peak talent.

I'm still amazed it's been almost 4 years since Arena Commander released and they still have horrible space combat and flying.

Everything about it gameplay, look and feel wise is just bad. PvE is horribad boring (even if they had decent AI) and PvP is extremely stale, even more then Elite Dangerous. It's as if they don't even care and it'l magically sort itself out down the line.
