ADVICE FOR FIRST TIME PLAYERS BEFORE LEVEL 30:

A Buff Gay Dude posted:

Yeah for new people playing the campaign, here are the rules:
Only play solo or play with people EXACTLY the same level as you
Always be the appropriate level for the mission. Do the side missions and subquests to stay leveled. The game is designed to require you to get a level from a big mission and another level from side stuff before you do the next big mission
DONT DO MISSIONS ON HARD. THERE IS NO POINT. (Until you're level 30)
Don't wear Skill Power Pieces until you have skills
make sure you're upgrading your gear at the shops so you don't lag more than a level or two behind.
Also, and this sounds lame, but role play as an individual who is trying to figure out what the gently caress happened and is actually going now. The game "feels" better when you're in this mindset, especially as you find little info bits throughout.
- Do the Lincoln Tunnel mission as soon as you're high enough level, as you get a permanent 10% XP boost once you unlock the Security wing
- Don't bother with Hard difficulty story missions until you're level 30. The extra rewards are minimal and aren't worth the trouble at low level.
- Do side missions and Encounters (which you need for base upgrades anyway), not just main missions. This should keep you comfortably like 1-2 levels ahead of the requirements for Normal difficulty missions
- Don't worry too much about buying guns/gear before level 30 unless your drops are unlucky and you really need an upgrade for something.
- After max level 30, XP goes towards earning loot caches. Consider saving some of the collectible items (cell phone recordings, laptops etc.) as they give way more XP at level 30. On a double XP weekend event these will bag you a LOT of loot caches.

When you hit level 30, the loot that drops will no longer have a level, and is replaced with a Gear Score. Continue to collect gear that raises your Gear Score until the game gives you the option to change to a higher World Tier, which is done in the top left corner of the city map. Don't worry about refining your gear until you get to World Tier 5. It's best to just find a random or goon group already in WT5 and tag along. As soon as gear drops that is 256 or higher Gear Score, equip it and you're ready to go.

Classified Gear Sets:
AlphaBridge
FireCrest
Hunter’s Faith
Tactician’s Authority

Playlist:
Broadway Emporium
Police Academy
Queens Tunnel Camp
Times Square
Dragons Nest

Modifiers:
Ambush: Agents deal increased damage while stationary. (always active)
Covert Ambush: Ambush behavior, plus damage and health dimishes while moving.
Strategic Ambush: Covert Ambush behavior, plus Damage Buff, then health, diminish when close to other teammates.

When players are stationary during Ambush a bar will fill, increasing damage output as it does so. Choose when to move and when to stay and fight!
When a Covert or Strategic Ambush is active the increased damage bar will drain with movement. Once empty, the player will start to lose health instead of damage!
Commendations:
There will be Commendations similar to the Strike GE, instead of Security Wing Skills you'll have to run the Missions with Tech Wing Skills only.

Masks: https://imgur.com/a/AaPie

So assuming new ones aren't added, that should be all of the gearsets right? Hopefully that means they start repeating GE's or throwing out new ones with various gearsets in the caches.

Yellow gear is still quite ok, there's even a "gearset" of sorts that is built around not chasing gearset bonuses. Some yellows are easily better than others and some pieces have great utility when combined with 4pc headsets. For instance, I have a 4 piece Tacticians set combined with a vigorous chest piece ( grants overheals to me when I'm using defibrillator on myself and friendlies ) and an inventive backpack which grants a 15% bonus to skillpower as long as I'm full health ( a better bonus than specialised as I'm almost fully electronics specced ).

If you don't have a Classified gearset there are still a few yellow armor pieces with very useful bonuses - to name a few, Vigorous on chest pieces, Inventive on backpacks, Savage on gloves. Classified gearsets are supplanting those in a few cases though.

I like an electronics based getup for pve - Firecrest, Tacticians and Reclaimers are all viable, but even firearms based builds work just as well. Truth be told almost anything goes with regards to PVE until you hit Legendary missions and Heroic Incursions. PVP? Hexotic Set ( based on Skulls MC Gloves - haven't got any? Do a few laps farming LZ bosses) 4pc Predators & Strikers all work.

You probably should reverse that build. 4 Striker and 2 Pred. Better yet, get a ninja bag and you can do 4 Striker and 3 Pred.

The bleed on the 4pc Pred isn't worth it at all. On the other hand, the EAD and damage stack you get on the Striker is great for PVE. So if you do a 4 Striker/3 Predator Ninja Bag you get stability, EAD, damage stack, reload speed, AR/SMG bonus. Not a bad set for PVE.

But to be honest, the 6 piece Striker or 6 piece Predator will blow that out of the water.

I'm currently clearing the map of all the side missions I missed and hoping for a Ninja Bag while I'm at it.

I think I just completed the main game for the first time since getting this (General Assembly and Unknown Signal, right?). Personally I think structurally it is a damned mess that probably was rewritten at least once, but it did have a drat good final fight, and the last few revelations were presented in a way that was really cool (Even if the Keener Echo basically has him go "We are not so different, you and I".).

I haven't gone through all the collectables yet, but I liked the Cleaners the most as villains, in that they have a distinctive look and gimmick, and have a motivation that makes them a bit tragic if they weren't gleefully burning people alive.

Also, Yellow Armored Assholes are so much easier to deal with once you get skills that inflict burning. Though I am pretty sure that it could be any status effect that stuns an enemy.

When the game came out it made sense to get the collectibles as you progressed because a lot of the back story of what happened with the first wave is buried in those recordings including the point where Keener snaps, and back then then was no progression once you hit 30, so no point in saving those recordings for later like there is now.

"We're just the same" is a theme that comes up again in the Underground, from a rogue agent. Falls flat there too because the player character isn't enabling the massacre of unarmed civilians and destruction of vital city infrastructure.

I can only speak for PC but I came back about a week before the 1.8/Global Event and there were plenty of other agents leveling. Getting a group for Missions was pretty easy but honestly just power through 30. Population is great on PC for 30+ and I'm sure it's even better on console.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a boring movie
Just noticed the RNG thread tag. Good poo poo, Roman.

A few things I'll pass along for new/returning players.

Want Div Tech? Of course you do. The most efficient way is farming caches in the DZ. Gold caches give you 2-5 pieces, so a full backpack can get you between 18-45. Green caches give more of course. A good farming spot is in DZ06. There's lots of caches. 2 by the safe house, 2 in Q Building, 2 by the Pit. There's some just south of the DZ 06 West checkpoint in the contaminated area. There's also 4 pieces of Div Tech by the DZ06 extraction. There's also a chest in a contaminated hallway on the west half. Clear those landmarks, kill bosses, get chests. This is pretty easy to do solo.

Contamination events are also really good for Div Tech. You get two bosses per spot, and they'll always drop a cache (and a good chance it's a green chest). When you get the warning that an event is starting, here's what I do. Make a beeline for the subway entrance in DZ03, hitting up a checkpoint or safe house on the way to top off ammo and med kits. I also equip Overdose and an immunization station. Once the event starts, run down, clear the subway. Do NOT pick up loot. Clear it and go to the next one, working your way North. Clear all the spots as quick as you can. Hopefully you can get 6-8, even 10 boss kills before the time runs out. Once the event is over, THEN go back and get the stuff you want to extract. You'll be drowning in caches, div tech, exotics, classified gear. This works best in a group since everyone can just run in and melt everything.

If you want to farm exotics and classifieds, run the landmarks in DZ07 in a loop, starting with the opera house, going clockwise. Opera house can have 3 bosses, and the other landmarks can spawn extra waves, containing more bosses. This is also better in a group since a group can quickly clear each landmark.

I managed to get Tier 3 (which ever one is the best tier) in the last GE, so I'll pass along how I did it. The ranking goes by 'your best hour' in terms of collecting GE credits. Get a full group, and start with the hardest Weekly HVT. Once you clear it and pick up the GE credits, you're on the clock (have someone start a timer). Once you finish the first HVT, have ONE person go to Camp Clinton and get the next HVT. Doing this saves time, since you don't have 4 people fast traveling, and Camp Clinton takes less time to load than the Terminal. So do this and clear out the weekly HVTs, then immediately, go to DZ06 W checkpoint, grab ammo and medkits, and run that DZ07 boss loop I just described, as fast as you can. Do NOT pick up loot, just run over the bosses to get the GE credits. Run the bosses continuously. Once your hour is up, then go back and get your loot.
