No wait until you get 15 HP. The defense stat doesn't really matter for shuckle since it's going to be huge no matter what. HP on the other hand, is much smaller to start out with, so high HP IVs will make a much bigger difference in the overall survivability. I mean shuckle isn't that great to begin with but the difference between 0 and 15 defense will be completely negligible while you might actually notice the difference between 15 and 0 HP.

Pokémon with high HP and low defense like chansey and wailord are the opposite: defense IVs will make a bigger difference than HP because the base stat proportions are reversed.
It's 14. Good enough. :)

How are people using star pieces? So far I've been activating them whenever eggs are close to hatching, but other than that the only real "trick" I could think of was to feed 100 berries to 10 different Pokémon in friendly gyms. I can't think of anything else other than just mass catching.
Is there an equivalent to what mass evolves and chaining legendary raids do for experience points?

Not really, just catching as much as you can during the time. Best I've come up is save 9x10km eggs and pop them with the star piece on. I guess 7day streak is also decent for it.

No, it's part of your daily spin bonus full stop

If you already received your daily bonus before they went live then you don't get it today, because you already received your daily bonus.

It's silly but it's not complicated.
If it's what I think it is:

The circle has to be a certain size to trigger an excellent throw and in general the smaller the circle the higher your catch rate. The circle only changes size while you are activating the poke ball AND the pokemon is able to be captured, that is to say not in an attack or jumping animation.

So if you hold down and let go on the ball you can see the circle will be the same size from when you let go to when you touch it again. The trick is to hold down on the ball until you get a small enough circle and then let go. Then, you wait for the pokemon to perform an attack/jump animation. During the animation you can touch the ball and charge up a curveball. If you throw the ball at the very end of the animation you can hit it right as the capture window opens back up with an excellent throw because the circle size hasn't changed.

Doing this trick allows you to both control the size of the ring and time your throw more easily. You're not in a panic to spin the ball and throw it when the circle gets small because the size is set and you have the attack animation time to wind up. With a bit of practice you should be able to always score at least a great throw on legendaries without worry of the ball being batted away.

For anyone who's not familiar with the circle trick yet, about 10 seconds of a video helps a lot:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qdjCk-cT08&t=75s

Really helps with catching legendaries, especially if they attack a ton like the 3 dogs did.

Has anyone else noticed an uptick in how many potions they get from normal stops instead of gyms, or is it just my confirmation bias? I was constantly hurting for potions before but I feel like I'm getting one every 4 stops now instead of every 20.

Yeah it's been un-hosed it seems. Now I'm not getting as many great or ultra balls, but I'm back to swimming in revives and potions.

The last Chu outbreak was when I finally got my Silver medal, so I'm still a while away since this repeat is pretty rare, I've only found 2.

Hell, I've caught hundreds of Magikarp and Rattata and aren't even halfway to Silver for those two, so those medals are just impossible, as far as I'm concerned.

I wish they would do seasonal migration with birds or fish pokemon, at least that would be thematically fine and you'd still get the chance to get them eventually. Unfortunately now we've just got regionals which doesn't even help them make $$$

I hope they do trading someday. Just turn it off for legendaries if you're so worried about preserving an element of catch em all, and implement a trade limit of 1 a day (more specifically, you need a "trade pass" you can get once daily from a Pokestop, buy more like raid passes).

I really hope they don't make legendaries exclusive; there's really no need because outside of mewtwo, they aren't exclusive at all and that'd just be another way to gently caress rural players. Im also hoping they don't because I caught and saved an extra high IV one of each legendary hoping that eventually when trading came out I could give tto my boyfriend, who was out hiking in the woods for 5.5 months and thus missed out on everything but the first birds :saddowns:.

I willed too hard again...
If I were Niantic, I would just pretend I never said anything about trading and never implement it. Judging by what more casual players are saying, they just want to collect and fill their dex, and if trading is put in, they'd be done with the game very quick. All they need is one friend who plays frequently to trade them everything and they'll do what every "Hey I haven't played in X months, what's new?" person does and hibernate until a new gen is released, play for a day, and then hibernate again (or forget altogether/uninstall).

Beyond filling the dex, I don't know what trading would do other than to help smaller accounts get battle-ready Pokemon, whether that be your alt accounts or your kids' accounts. It would also fuel some unofficial trading markets from farmers spoofing to other countries to grab regionals for you for real money.

Everything points to trading being a disadvantage for the company and extra work.

Back in the days when gyms were all about high CP poo poo, it made sense that trading would screwed competive balance. But now? Who gives a poo poo? Level 5 people can easily get coin as long as they fine a gym with an open spot.

Maybe make it so only first form evolutions can be traded (i.e. no trading a tyranitar, but larvitar is fine).

I just realized a great change would be to let all the raid Pokemons be available at all tiers, but the higher the raid the higher IV minimum. so people like me/wife who just want dex wouldn't need to spend hours forming groups and could just go get something fast with our limited casual time

You're upset because it took a long time to organize a raid, because it was snowing in your area. And your solution is at there should be no raids at all in snowing areas. There's a lot better solution and that you could just not raid at all when it's snowing outside.

My best guess is that they're giving you a tier 4 raid that you can do with a buddy and still reap the high level rewards without having to organize a big raid party. It's kind of the perfect raid for rural players because you don't need to get a big group together you just need a friend.
