Is the park even actually closed, or the parking lot? My city 'closes' the park near me which means locking the gate to the parking lot because the city doesn't want to pay for plows to clear out a parking lot that maybe 5 people are gonna use. Nobody cares if you just park on the street and walk in.

The actual “locking on” to stops and Pokémon is handled by the game, the Go+/Go-tcha doesn’t do that. Sounds like either a slow connection or flaky GPS.

In this case the park was closed and there were signs posted that it was closed and all the parking lots are blocked off.

Part of the reason of the closure on Christmas for them being kind of strict is that there are three large ponds there and people fish all the time, so it's deep, and not well lit around the water when closed. Drowning possibly?

edit: there are three parks at the gym, one at the entrance, one at the hiking trail, and the one where the raid was at a curve in the river leading to the pond.

I'll get out and try it again today. I read something somewhere else that if you're out of pokeballs it won't spin either. I suspect that is if you are trying to autocatch as well and I've turned all catching off. I really just need a spinner so when I'm coming home from work past a million stops I can fill up without being a driving hazard.

It's hard to tell with these things, since they're knockoff Chinese fitbits with different code crammed in. I know mine, personally, works the same with any distance between phone and Gotcha, up until we get near the "far enough away it might unpair" limit. But I've also seen these do some weird poo poo. Have you double checked to make sure your phone is fully compatible as far as Bluetooth itself? Older phone, older Bluetooth could cause it.

Charging it I dont feel is an issue, as I'd rather charge than buy a battery. I do agree that with the stock wristband it pops out a lot. Mine popped out twice in a week, including yesterday in the snow and was buried for over 12 hours. Also managed to find it and it somehow still works. When I had an off brand wrist band it wasn't an issue. I recommend looking into one. I have this guy: https://www.amazon.com/CUMILO-Color...tcha+pokemon+go

I also absolutely prefer charging, but seems a lot of people won't try it because of that. They just burn through batteries while catching slower. I don't get it at all.

That's the wristband I have. I've never used the one that came with the Gotcha. TBH I've been wearing the drat thing all day for months, often 12+ hours, jumping in and out of cars, going all over town, and this is the first it's popped free. I probably just didn't wedge it in there right.

You're concerned with the city requesting the stops and gyms be removed, or the general attitude of the town regarding PoGo, right? Or both?

Genuinely curious since I know this has been a whole thing for you: what would you have done if you'd had a pass to that EX raid?

Are there any leaders in the PoGo community there? We had a couple early EX raids on private property, non-sponsored, and one of the admins on Discord just.. called the places and said "hey can a group of weirdos come stand in your parking lot for 15-20 minutes?" Obviously the park people could have said no, but if they understood no one was going to actually be loving about on the ponds, they might agree to it.

Someone did ask the park personnel and they were told at the park is closed and everyone has to leave. The other area I mentioned there were many warnings given to people before they finally pulled all the stops and the gyms but people ignored it. I don't remember if I posted it or not but there was at least a dozen people complaining that the guards and the cops had no legal reason to keep them out of private property once it was closed. "My taxes pay for this!"

As for me getting a pass there, well I wouldn't have gone. It would have sucked heavily but I don't want trespassing or an arrest on my record. At the park I'm speaking of I have seen an increase in police cruisers. I doubt it's because of Pokemon. Still we never used to have so many cops in the area and more than once they've come over to see a raid when the Park is open and asked what was going on.

Basic security guards I'm not too worried about, but the police keep stopping at groups and asking what's happening, I have no idea what they're really looking for.

LG V20. That's just a year old.

I took it out this morning again and had mixed performance which ranged from barely acceptable to awful. I'll go into the details more below, but if you're not into the Go-tcha thing you can skip the rest of the post.

On one hand I want to blame the phone and on the other hand the phone seems to be working as expected. If I had to wager, to issue is with pogo itself.

As I roll up or by stops, the screen transforms the stops as expected for spinning. I could spin by hand and be fine. As I travel PAST the stop, pogo refuses to acknowledge it as a stop. Once I'm out of range of the stop, pogo sees it's a stop and alerts it as available. It takes a second or three to signal the Go-tcha by which time the stop is out of range and it can't spin it. By the time it resets itself, I'm already past the next stop. This is at 10-15 mph.

There were a couple of times where it latched on in a timely manner to some stops but would completely miss others on the same block. At times, I would pull over and PARK at stops and even though I could have spun by hand, pogo refused to see them as catch-able stops.

Thinking perhaps it's pogo causing the issue I decided to turn auto-catch back on when I got home. It hoovered up everything in the yard pretty quickly. I watched as new pokemon would spawn and it varied from not even showing them on the screen because it caught them so fast to a fifteen count before acknowledging them on the screen.

This makes no sense. If the App understands something is there (enough to present it on the screen or change the animation) how can it not be telling ITSELF to signal the Go-Plus portion of the App?

At this time, it's falling into the realm of 'it doesn't hurt, but it's not helping either.'

There's something with the app where it can become really slow about throwing stops or pokemon to the go+/goatcha. For me it usually happens after manually catching a pokemon, or when the tracking list is refreshing.

Manually spinning a spot might wake it up, or that might be a placebo.

When the game is awake and throwing stops and mon to the goatcha, it's perfectly fast on picking them up.

This is the app, not the device. It could be your Bluetooth connection, but it just sounds like the app.

The app which runs go+ and gotcha is - as far as I can tell - related to but kinda separate from the main pogo app. So it will find things the main app can't and vice-versa.

Also, I just turned on the vibrate feature, turned off auto-catch again (misses more than it catches) and now it flashes ever minute or so telling me I got 5+ items from a pokestop. In my living room.

No items added. (as I would expect)

I'm on vacation today in Asheville NC and my Go-tcha has been working great. So yeah, maybe locked screen is just better.

Anyway! For you, the 5+ display with a long buzz is the Gotcha's generic "something is wonky" signal. So, something is wrong.

Quick troubleshooting idea: Check the Gotcha. Make sure all of the boxes have checkmarks and none have x's. It's pretty easy to accidentally turn off auto-spin, though if it's giving the 5+ display that's probably not it but still worth a look.

I got a Gotcha at Christmas and this hasn’t been my experience at all. Sometimes it will get hung up catching mons until the stop is out of range but in a 30min drive into town and back it managed to pick up ~50 mons and 200+ items (plus whatever it used for catching, I started with zero red balls). Obviously the town centre here is pretty heavily dotted with stops which helps.

I suspected it was an error code of some sorts, but the extensive documentation of the device is so vast that I couldn't bring myself to dig through it all.

As to checking the settings, I've tried all sorts of arrangements and I'm positive I've got it set properly. Last night I had it set to only alarm when something was nearby and it was literally buzzing before things would appear on the screen. (Among all the error buzzing) If I tapped the catch button right away, it would never appear on the screen. I'm suspecting it may be my pogo install or my phone's bluetooth. I hooked it up for the Mrs. last night and while it was still late in recognizing stops, it would recognize them and spin them well after I was out of range of them. She missed one stop.

More investigating today. Thank you everyone for the feedback of your experiences. There is so little else out there that it's good to be able to know what to expect.

It's no longer its own weather condition that cuts spawn rates and removes bonuses. Also, the weather screen shows a red banner advising you to check local weather reports.

I'm glad they patched that so quickly. This is way better than before. Now there's always a weather bonus of some kind.
